RAISES MORE THAN $600,000 The Lone Star Flight Museum was transformed into a Monte Carlo destination with a wash of coastal color and vibrant floral displays as operatic voices floated through the hangar. This year’s fundraising gala raised $620,000 to support the museum’s STEM-related programs, educational mission, and exhibits. and paid tribute to museum founder Robert L. Waltrip. The gala program also recognized Veteran’s Day and those who have bravely served our country. CenterPoint Energy, ConocoPhillips, and Bette and Ralph Thomas served as premier sponsors. Other key sponsors include Carolyn and Anthony Hall, Joan Skipper and Ed Peine, and the Strake Foundation. KPRC Channel 2 Meteorologist and Houston Newsmakers host Khambrel Marshall served as master of ceremonies. Gala co-chairs Kelly and
David Rose and Megan and Jason Ryan welcomed more than 500 guests and supporters for an evening that included a wine pull, big board auction, paddle raise, and a spirited live auction. LSFM President and Chief Executive Officer and retired Lt. Gen. Doug Owens (USAF) spoke about the achievements of the museum and exciting plans for the coming year, including new exhibits and hands-on experiences. A highlight of the gala was a tribute to the late Robert L. “Bob” Waltrip. A moving video showcased his business expertise, the love of his family, and his passion for aviation that led him to establish the Lone Star Flight Museum in 1985. With Waltrip family members looking on, daughter Holly Waltrip-Long spoke about her father’s incredible character, Jet Setters on pg. 3 strong spirit, and drive.

America has embarked on a self-destructive pathway of normalizing that which is profoundly abnormal. Normalizing deviant behavior is a dangerous societal proposition because it is profoundly written: “when we practice deceiving, what tangle webs we weave”. Deceit creates confusion and engenders all kinds of sinful acts which lead to murder, theft, lies, and compound lying. America, “A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.” (Proverbs 14: 16-17). Former President Donald J. Trump and The GOP foolishly rush in where Angel’s fear to trod. Now, we all know why Donald J. Trump should never, ever be President again! It was best said by Angela Mayou, “if an individual tells you who they are, believe them”. Trump’s 35,000+ lies documented via fact-check tells everyone who he is. Thus, it must be emphatically stated that if Biden is too old, Trump is mentally and completely unstable, and the GOP has malnutrition of the brain for its support of Trump, because: “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14: 34). Thus, if the Presidential choice is between Biden and Trump, give me Biden everyday in
the week, and on Sunday give me a double portion that is twice on Sunday. Americans, the editorial writer humbly beseech you to: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant,” (Philippians 2: 5-7a). America, it is spiritually documented that so as a man thinketh, so is he. Fortunately, Trump has boldly told us what he intends on doing if reelected to the Presidency, punish his enemies by any means necessary. America, lest we forget that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and individuals such as Christian Right Evangelicals, The GOP, White Nationalists, Fox “FAKE” News, and some spiritually misguided Blacks and other minorities, especially Vivek Ramaswamy are classic examples of spiritually misguided individuals who love confusion and societal conflict. It has rightly been said that what goes around comes around, and it is best said in the Gospel of Matthew: “Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish by the sword.” (Matthew 26: 52). Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has finally had an enlightening spiritual experience, and now she knows you cannot threaten and bully others by flashing and brandishing lethal weaponry, because spiritually: “for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” (Matthew 26: 52).

IT IS RACISM, NOT RACE THAT IS KILLING OUR MOMS AND BABIES More American babies died before their first birthday last year than in the past twenty years. Most of them were Black. Black infants and their mothers have the highest mortality rate in the United States. Over the past century infant mortality has been decreasing, with more newborns surviving every year until 2022, when that trend was reversed, according to Danielle M. Ely, a health statistician with the National Center for Health Statistics. These losses occur even in communities that otherwise appear to have vast health resources. Harris County ranks third, behind only Chicago’s Cook County and Detroit’s Wayne County, in what are known as excess Black infant deaths, according to the federal Health Resources and Services Administration. “This is a public health crisis as it relates to Black moms and babies that is completely preventable,” said Barbie Robinson, who took over as executive director of Harris County Public Health in March 2021. “When you look at the breakdown demographically — who’s disproportionately impacted by the lack of access — we have a situation where we can expect these horrible outcomes.”
Houston is home to two public hospitals and the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world, but mortality rates were 11.1 per 1,000 births for Black infants from 2014 through 2019, according to the March of Dimes, compared with 4.7 for white infants. Even this abundance of providers in Harris County has not made it easy for pregnant Black patients to get culturally competent care that that acknowledges an individual’s heritage, beliefs, and values during treatment. In fact, Texas had the lowest percentage of mothers receiving early prenatal care in the nation in 2020, according to the 2021 Healthy Texas Mothers and Babies Databook with Black moms and babies being less likely to receive first-trimester care than any other racial and ethnic group. Babies born without prenatal care were three times as likely to have a low birth weight and five times as likely to die as those whose mothers had adequate and timely care. Pregnancy complications are now more prevalent than ever, as more women (but especially Black women) begin their pregnancies with underlying medical conditions like high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes. This makes Blacks three times more likely to die in or immediately after childbirth according to Roni Caryn Rabin of The New York Times (https:// www.nytimes. com/2023/11/01/ health/infantmortality-raterise.html).
