2 successful holiday clubs and talent shows were run during the school holidays in the rural villages of Khula and Ezwenalisha. Over 3 weeks, a total of 1675 children attended.
•
To ensure children were prepared for the next school term, we introduced an afternoon holiday club that delivered educational information in a fun and interactive formant.
•
Outside of holiday time, our volunteers worked consistently with 5 crèches each week. This is a huge help to the local teaching staff and provides vital 1-2-1 attention for the children.
•
725 Grade 6 and 7 students were taught about HIV during our HIV education classes.
•
To improve English language and reading skills, we worked with 384 participants across 2 reading clubs and 28 English lessons.

Across 2 clinics in the rural villages we work in, volunteers helped 769 patients. This extra support at the clinic gives the doctors and nurses a helping hand in their daily workload.
•
94 patients were transported to clinic who otherwise would not be able to get there. For the elderly and chronically ill, this is an enormous help.
•
We continued working with a local physiotherapist each week to assist 45 patients with their mobility and strength.
•
59 patients had nutritional porridge and supplements delivered to them weekly to improve their diet and overall health.
•
144 home based care visits were undertaken, providing patients with health assessments, medication and wound care in their homes.
•
In total, 1079 patients in our communities were impacted during this quarter.
•
At the base for our Reading Club, volunteers painted and refurbished the jungle gym, making it safer for the children.
•
150 seedlings were planted for our women’s support group in the village of Ezwenalisha.
•
40 kilos of crops were harvested and divided amongst support group members from the garden.
•
Bowling day in St. Lucia was hosted by the local Lawn Bowling Club for our support group ladies, with refreshments and a braai (bbq).
•
136 members attended our 2 support groups across the quarter. During that time, 20 educational topics were presented, including information about yoga as a healing and health tool.
“There is never a dull moment at creche. There is always fun to be had, memories to be made, and smiles, giggles and love to share!’ Emily Warren – Education Volunteer from the UK
“‘I truly had the most incredible month and met other volunteers that will remain friends for life. Similarly, to last time, we worked in the community in rural crèches, and we put on English classes and reading clubs for children in the villages. We were always welcomed by lots of smiling children, ready to sing, play and learn. My favorite weekend in St. Lucia was spent at a 5* game reserve on safari – it was great fun! I would honestly recommend a volunteer trip to Africa to anyone! You get to give something back to the world and will come home feeling extremely grateful and humbled.’
