creation of a group of companies of which African Safari Club is part. To this day
their enthusiasm continues with the same philosophy of offering an affordable and unparalleled holiday experience in one of Africa’s most fascinating and diverse countries. From these small beginnings the group now controls five hotels in Kenya and six safari lodges and camps, together with some transfer and safari vehicles as well as a fleet of light aircraft to fly you to or from the wilderness game reserves from a private airstrip. We also offer holidays to Egypt which include a seven night Nile cruise aboard the four star M.S. Fleurette or the five star M.S. Da Vinci, with the option of extending your stay for an extra week from a choice of hotels in Luxor, Cairo, Hurghada and Makadi Bay on the Red Sea. Nothing is left to others, or indeed to chance, as many aspects of our holidays are managed and controlled by African Safari Club’s well-trained staff. More importantly, we can offer you the chance to visit this truly memorable country at a price that is both affordable and good value for money, just as our founders intended.

Our Hotel Grading System As hotel grading systems in Kenya differ considerably from those you are accustomed to in Europe, we have developed our own unique system to give you an idea of the standard of our hotels. Our classifications range from 1 to 6 shields, but should not be confused with, or compared to, the usual international star ratings. Six Shields - An excellent standard of accommodation, food, service and facilities. Five Shields - Very good standards of accommodation, food, service and facilities. Four Shields - Good standards of accommodation, food, service and facilities. Three Shields - Basic standards of accommodation with good food, service and facilities. Two Shields - A more simple standard of accommodation and facilities. One Shield - A very basic standard of accommodation and facilities. Half Shield - Properties that, in our opinion, are above the category listed but not quite to the next standard.

f you fancy the romantic idea of a
I
wedding with an idyllic beach as the
backdrop and the sounds of the Indian Ocean lapping against the shore in the background, then look no further. With African Safari Club you can choose to be married or renew your vows at one of our most popular hotels. For a dramatic setting, the Flamingo Beach Hotel, situated on Shanzu Beach, has a charming gazebo ‘The Pavillion d’Amour’ which is set on a rocky promontory and where your ceremony is held. Your day can be as grand or as simple as you wish, with just the two of you or with your family and friends, secure in the knowledge that we will make all the arrangements for your wedding to be a day to remember.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN OUR WEDDING PACKAGE? All administration, documentation and handling arrangements made by African Safari Club and all registrar fees, all for the cost of just £440 per couple. Plus, all the benefits of our ‘Honeymoon Package’ which includes a meal for two in the à la carte restaurant at your resort and a half day excursion.
WHAT KIND OF CEREMONY CAN WE HAVE?
or Embassy to establish the requirements for your marriage.
Most African Safari Club weddings will be nondenominational services, conducted by a Notary, Justice of the Peace, Minister or Registrar. Other religious services can be arranged, please ask for further details.
HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO BE IN KENYA BEFORE WE CAN BE MARRIED?
IS OUR MARRIAGE LEGAL?
24
Yes. All ceremonies are performed in accordance with British Law and legally recognised as binding. If you are not a British citizen then we recommend you contact your relevant Consulate

Just 3 days.
WHEN WILL THE DATE OF OUR WEDDING BE CONFIRMED? Most wedding ceremonies take place Monday to Friday (excluding Public Holidays). Once we have been advised of the date of your wedding
ceremony, we will then confirm this in writing which is usually approximately 3-4 weeks before your departure date. You will be notified of the time of your ceremony when you are in resort.
WHEN WILL WE RECEIVE OUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE? You will normally be issued with your Marriage Certificate whilst you are in resort. In very exceptional circumstances it may be necessary for the certificate to be mailed to you from our UK office.
Optional extras ou may organise as little or as much as you would like to make your ceremony extra special. When you arrive at your hotel you will have a meeting with the Tourist Officer and Hotel Manager. During this meeting you can discuss the finer details of your ceremony and you will be able to book any of the following optional extras. Please note prices are subject to alteration and where there is no price shown, details will be provided by the hotel.
Y
FLOWERS Flowers from the hotel gardens will be provided free of charge. Should you wish to order specific types of flowers i.e. roses/carnations, then there will be an additional charge depending on the type of flowers. As a guide the cost for 25 red roses is e45, approx. £37.
CAN WE GET EXTRA COPIES OF OUR CERTIFICATE? Yes. You can arrange to have certified copies of your Marriage Certificate at a cost of approximately £4 each, payable in resort.
HOW DO WE TRANSPORT OUR WEDDING ATTIRE? Your wedding attire should be packed in a bag small enough to fit in the overhead lockers on board the aircraft. Unfortunately there is no appropriate space in the cabin for it to be hung up. Your second option is to pack it in a suitcase and check it into the hold, where it will be loaded as ‘fragile’ luggage. This will be included as part of your normal luggage allowance. Luggage in excess of the allowance is at the airline’s discretion and excess charges will apply for all luggage which is over the permitted weight.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR FOR OUR WEDDING? If you’re heading for the sun, we recommend clothes to keep your cool in! During midafternoon, when the sun is at its hottest, traditional dress may be unbearable, so brides may want to opt for a lightweight cotton dress instead. For grooms, a lightweight, light coloured suit is ideal.
WHAT WILL OUR WEDDING FLOWERS BE LIKE? Flowers from the hotel gardens will be provided free of charge. However, should you wish to order specific types of flowers there will be an additional charge.
CAN WE BOOK A SEPARATE ROOM THE NIGHT BEFORE THE WEDDING? Of course, subject to availability on arrival. Please note that a charge will be made locally for the extra room.
WHEN DO YOU REQUIRE OUR DOCUMENTS?
The price is dependant on the size of the cake. As a guide, the cost for a single tier cake is e36, approx. £30 and a double tier is e61, approx. £50. You normally have the choice of either a sponge or fruitcake.
WINE AND CHAMPAGNE A standard bottle of sparkling wine is e36, approx. £30, and a standard bottle of champagne is e100, approx. £83.
PHOTOGRAPHER
Naturally, a special day such as this takes time to organise, so please send us your documents at least ten weeks prior to your departure date so that we can attend to those little things that make all the difference on your special day.
CAN WE RENEW OUR WEDDING VOWS? Yes. This can be arranged for £405 per couple. This cost includes all that is included in both our Wedding and Honeymoon Packages.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN OUR HONEYMOON PACKAGE? All of our hotels provide the perfect location for honeymoons. If you honeymoon with us we will provide the same complimentary benefits as shown under the ‘What’s Included in Our Wedding Package’ paragraph. As proof of your marriage, the original or photocopy of your Wedding Certificate must be presented on arrival at your hotel. Please note, the wedding ceremony has to have taken place within the last 12 months prior to your departure date.

RECORDING YOUR WEDDING You may capture memories of your special day by having your ceremony recorded on DVD. The cost for this is e200, approx. £165 and will include a DVD for you to keep.
HAIR AND BEAUTY Hair and Beauty Services will be available at your hotel, in a neighbouring hotel or local beauty salon. We can also arrange for a beautician and hairdresser to come to your room. Our Out of Africa safari was an unforgettable experience...........we thoroughly enjoyed each day and felt that we were extremely lucky to have the guides that we did. All the staff at the Crocodile Camp, Buffalo Camp and Kimana Camp could not have done more to make it so enjoyable and welcoming. The very smooth transfer from camp to camp, the flights, the game drives, brilliant food throughout and friendly staff was consistently without a hitch.

DURATION : 7 NIGHTS PRICE : £899 PER PERSON
Days 4-5: Spend two days of game watching in this world-famous reserve where you can witness the thrill of African wildlife in its natural habitat. Return to the camp each day in time for dinner and an evening sitting around the camp fire.
This seven night fly/drive safari takes you to three exciting and different game reserves in Kenya – Tsavo East National Park, Kilimanjaro-Kimana Game Sanctuary and the famous Masai Mara. Your first game drive then begins as you drive through Tsavo East en route to the Crocodile Camp which is situated on the outskirts of Tsavo East National Park. Time to relax before having dinner. Day 2: After breakfast, today is entirely taken up with a game drive in Tsavo East. Home to 50 varieties of mammal and 400 species of bird, look out for the famous ‘Red Elephant’, the effect created by the vivid colour of the earth. Lunch is taken at the camp. Enjoy a relaxing dinner in these memorable surroundings. Day 3: In the morning, you fly to the Masai Mara, an extension of Tanzania’s vast Serengeti and one of the most densely populated wildlife regions in Kenya. Day 6: After breakfast, you fly to the Kilimanjaro-Kimana Game Sanctuary which is situated at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Time to settle into your accommodation at the camp. There will be game drives both before and after lunch. Time to have a refreshing drink at the bar before having dinner. Day 7: A full day Game Ranger ‘taster‘ course awaits you today. Through theory and practice you will learn the basic concepts of a Game Rangers job and be told about African Safari Club’s conservation projects, especially the reintroduction of lions back in to the wild. You also take a walk with the Ranger to learn how to read animal tracks and recognise the local plants and vegetation before arriving at the Hippo Pool. Day 8: Enjoy an early morning game drive before breakfast. You are then taken to the airstrip for your return flight to Bamburi, arriving at your hotel in time for lunch. Useful Information
PREPARING FOR YOUR HOLIDAY PASSPORTS All British passengers require a passport which must be valid for at least three months after your intended return to the UK. If you are 16 or over and do not yet have a passport our recommendation is that you should apply for one at least six weeks before your holiday. First-time adult passport holders, and for those children applying for an adult passport that were previously included in a parent’s passport will need to have an interview as part of the passport application process. This does not apply to people who held their own passport as a child. All children, from new-born babies to the age of 15, who are not already on a parent’s or guardian’s passport, must now have their own child passport (valid for five years). Once they reach their 16th birthday they then become eligible for a standard 10-year passport and their details must be removed from their parents’ passport. Please note, these details may change and it is your responsibility to ensure that your passport is correct and valid.
VISAS
VACCINATIONS At the time of going to press there are no compulsory inoculation or vaccination requirements for entry into Kenya. However, your GP will be able to tell you which vaccinations are currently recommended by the Department of Health and you should contact your doctor at least 8 weeks before departure. Malaria is endemic to the Indian Ocean area and you are strongly recommended to consult your GP or pharmacist for advice on precautions and malaria tablets.
PREGNANCY Airlines may refuse permission for women to fly who will be 28 weeks or more pregnant on the date of the return travel. Failure to comply with airline regulations may result in cancellation and denial of boarding and we cannot be held responsible for any such occurrence.
DVT - ‘ECONOMY CLASS SYNDROME’ There has been concern and publicity about Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) suffered by some passengers, especially on long haul flights. If you have any concerns about this, we recommend that you contact your GP for advice.
TRAVEL ADVICE
British passport holders require a visa to visit Kenya. The majority of travellers purchase a visa on arrival at Mombasa airport. The cost is US$25 per adult visa and children under 16 are free of charge. Visas can only be paid for in US Dollars cash. Further details regarding visas can be found in our General Information Booklet which will be sent with your Confirmation Invoice. If any of these details change or should new visa fees or any other tourist tax be imposed, we will write and let you know, time permitting. We regret that we cannot be held responsible for impositions such as this as they are totally beyond our control. If you or any member of your party is not a British citizen or holds a non British passport, you must check passport and visa requirements with the Kenya High Commission.
It is the responsibility of all passengers to ensure that they have the necessary documents and visas for travel to Kenya. If failure to have any necessary travel or other documents results in fines, surcharges or other financial penalty being imposed on us, you will be responsible for reimbursing us accordingly.

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office may have issued information about your holiday destination. We advise you to check this information on the internet at www.fco.gov.uk/travel. You can also telephone the advice unit on 0845 850 2829.
YOUR TRAVEL DOCUMENTS After we have received full payment and about 14 days before departure, we will post or email your travel documents to you. Please check them carefully and contact us immediately if you have any queries. Please also refer to our Booking Conditions.
FLIGHT CHECK-IN Our flights to Mombasa are operated by Monarch Airlines (MON). They operate from Gatwick South Terminal and Manchester Terminal 1. Monarch Airlines operate a ‘common check-in’ procedure which will allow you to check-in at any of their respective desks.
LUGGAGE ALLOWANCE On Monarch Airlines, the luggage allowance is 20kg in Economy Class plus 5kg of hand luggage, and 30kg for Premium Class plus 5kg of hand luggage. Luggage in excess of the allowance is at the airline’s discretion and excess baggage charges will apply for all
luggage which is over the permitted weight. Owing to limited space on safari aircraft, only holdalls can be carried and the weight limit is 10kg per person. Your baggage is the responsibility of the airline from check-in to recovery at your destination. Please also refer to our Booking Conditions. Further details can be found in our General Information Booklet which will be sent with your Confirmation Invoice.
SPECIAL NEEDS AND REQUESTS Should you have any special requests such as dietary requirements for example, you should notify us at the time of booking or, at the very latest, 14 days prior to your departure from the UK. Whilst African Safari Club will do everything possible to ensure your requests are met, we regret we are unable to guarantee them. Our holidays may not be entirely suitable for people with certain disabilities, poor mobility or special needs. If you would like advice, or if you are in any doubt, please telephone us. Please also refer to our Booking Conditions.
THINGS TO TAKE WITH YOU It is advisable to include the following items in your luggage: first-aid kit, insect repellent, torch, high-factor suntan lotion and diarrhoea pills. If you wear spectacles or contact lenses, we recommend that you take a spare pair.
WELCOME TO KENYA WHAT TO EXPECT When holidaying in Kenya, it is important to remember that you cannot expect the same standards that we are accustomed to in Europe. There is little or no drainage, as a consequence, after a shower of rain the paths and roads can become muddy. Some vehicles are somewhat dilapidated and driving can be erratic. Energy conservation measures may mean that on occasions hotels are obliged to limit services such as water and electricity supplies which will result in power cuts, loss of air-conditioning and water shortages. To maintain a true Kenyan ambiance, some pathways in the hotels and lodges are only dimly lit. Don’t forget to take a torch with you. Whilst electrical wiring always complies with local safety standards, these may be lower than we are accustomed to in Europe. The presence of insects in a hotel or lodge should not be interpreted as a lack of cleanliness or hygiene. It is simply a fact of life in the tropics. You are likely to see monkeys and cats in and around the hotel grounds. Monkeys are wild animals and best admired from a distance for their cheeky behaviour but they should not be encouraged into eating areas or hotel rooms and you should not attempt to feed them, as this
can discourage them from relying on their natural diet. Cats are generally kept in the grounds of the hotel. For general hygiene purposes and the comfort of all guests, they should not be encouraged into eating areas. They are well cared for and fed by the staff and should not be fed by the guests in common areas. Mombasa is generally safe but we recommend that you do not go walking around the city at night and that you use only licensed taxis. Please ensure that any excursions you buy are bought from a recognised and licensed operator who has adequate insurance cover. We also advise you not to buy food from beach or street vendors.
For your safety be more vigilant than you would at home.
YOUR HEALTH In common with many tropical countries, general standards of hygiene and safety in Kenya may differ from those in Europe. You should, therefore, exercise greater caution for your own protection and health. The risk of insect bites may be reduced by the use of repellent sprays and by covering up whenever possible, especially in wooded areas and at night. To minimise the risk of stomach upset, you should avoid too much fruit, drinks with ice and excess sunbathing. When eating out, ensure to eat only in reputable establishments which conform to International health and hygiene standards.
Remember to take adequate supplies of any prescribed medication.
WATER Tap water should not be used as drinking water or for cleaning teeth. Bottled water can be bought at the hotel bars and in the dining rooms. Boiled water (which may be described locally as drinking water) for cleaning your teeth is provided in your room. However, we recommend that this is not swallowed. Whilst Mombasa and its surrounding area is supplied by a pipeline originating from springs up-country, most of the Kenyan coast is supplied with borehole-water which, depending upon location, may be salty. Occasionally there are failures of the water supply due to power cuts and repairs to pipelines and at the pumping station. In such instances there may be restrictions on water use. African Safari Club will always endeavour to ensure an efficient water supply but regrettably, the salt content and any failures are generally beyond our control. In any event, please try to conserve water, as Kenyan resources are much more limited than in Europe.
CASHLESS PAYMENT SYSTEM Soon after arrival in resort you will receive your African Safari Club Membership Card. This acts as a credit card for purchases from the bars and shops at your hotel, provided your stay is more than one night. It can also be used when booking excursions or safaris. Prices in all African Safari Club hotels are shown in Euros. Payment of your hotel account can be made by means of cash, travellers cheques, Visa or Mastercard.
TOURIST OFFICER At your African Safari Club hotel, the resident Tourist Officer is available to give you advice and information. Soon after arrival, he/she will hold a Welcome Meeting, giving you information about the hotel facilities, attractions and the local excursion programme. Please attend this meeting as you will find the information invaluable, especially if you are a first-time visitor.
BEACHES Beaches in Kenya are public, but certain African Safari Club hotels have a dedicated section of the beach which is kept clean and, as far as possible, protected from the illegal beach traders who operate everywhere along the coast. Beach vendors may offer safaris as well as souvenirs and African Safari Club cannot accept responsibility for any dealings you have with them. Due to the changing winds and tides, seaweed is sometimes washed up on to the beaches and, although they are cleaned daily, you may find that watersports are restricted on these occasions.
PRE-BOOK HOLIDAY EXTRAS We have teamed up with Holiday Extras and Servisair to provide you with these services. Holiday Extras, founded in 1983. Book Airport Lounges
ELECTRICITY Kenya runs on the same voltage and uses the same standard 3-pin plugs and sockets as the UK. You do not, therefore, need an adaptor.
EXTRA BED IN YOUR ROOM If more than two people share a room, an extra bed may be added and space will therefore be limited. Please note that in some cases the extra bed could be a sofabed or Z-bed.
SAFARIS Safaris often involve travel of long distances over rough ground and may not be suitable for those with certain medical conditions. If in doubt please contact us for advice. Vehicles are also likely to be of a lower standard than those in the UK. Whilst on safari, for your own safety, please observe the instructions of your driver/guide at all times.
Under no circumstances should you wander away from designated picnic areas, your safari vehicle or lodge/camp. Before participating in a Game Ranger Course, you will be asked to sign a separate disclaimer in resort, but this will not affect your rights in the event of an insurance claim being made upon your return to the UK. Please note that electricity and water supplies at safari lodges/camps can often be interrupted and occasionally cut completely at night. Your safari group may include customers from other European countries.
