THE EXPERIENCE CHALLENGE OCTOBER 2011
This is like nothing you have ever done before Prepare to be physically, emotionally and mentally challenged This is Africa for real
“ The Experience Challenge was a real eye opener. I learnt that I can live for a week without any real possessions, that if you’re tired enough you can sleep anywhere and that some of the things we hold most dear are really not all that important.” Ann Pepper Associate, Mutual Funds Dealer Deutsche Bank
“ I loved it - genuinely an amazing experience. From meeting my host with the banner ‘Mrs Keith’ to travelling to and from his school on the back of a bike, and taking in all the different activities.” Keith Theodore Vice President, Market Data Business Analyst Deutsche Bank
“ The best part of the trip was the people! Ghanaian people are very hospitable... There is this sense of unity in the communities that I have never experienced anywhere. In one of the compounds I stayed in there were Muslims, Christians and local tribal people all living in one unit like brothers and sisters, helping each other out on the day-to-day running of their household.” Bushra Akhtar Business Manager, Global Rates Deutsche Bank
Experience life as either a teacher, farmer or local business person in rural northern Ghana and witness the innovative and inspirational ways villagers living a hand-to-mouth existence work to overcome the every day challenges they face as individuals, as families and as communities. What are the dates?
The dates for the Experience Challenge 2011 are Sunday 9th to Sunday 16th October. You will spend three days and three nights living and working alongside some of Africa’s most isolated communities. For the remainder of the trip, you will be able to visit some of Afrikids Ghana’s ground breaking child rights and community development projects, learning about the organisation’s work and the impact it has on the very communities you’ll be living in.
What are the costs?
The cost per person, based on 40 people taking part, is £1,322.15. This includes your international flights, all domestic travel, meals, accommodation and a small fund for your host family to cover any additional expenses they may incur whilst you stay with them. We are continuously seeking ways to keep the cost per person as low as possible; to see a more detailed breakdown please get in touch.
How much will I need to Fundraise?
We ask that all participants raise a minimum amount of £1,000 which will go toward the projects you visit and benefit the communities you live in. This is all part of the challenge and AfriKids will support you throughout your fundraising. In 2010, all participants successfully met this target, with many even doubling it! If you manage to raise in excess of £1,000 you can use a maximum of £500 of your additional fundraising towards the trip costs.
What impact will I have?
Through fundraising, integrating with local families, taking part in brainstorming sessions with Afrikids Ghana staff and your host families and through a specially planned team activity, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the enhancement of the villager’s lives in the upper east region of Ghana.
Registration deadline date: Monday 16th May. To receive a registration form or for further information please contact: katiearnold@afrikids.org / 020 7443 5170
