The Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Jeffrey Dunn (center), and the Ira Dorsey president, Xi Alpha Lambda Scholarship Chapter with of the recipients Alpha Psi Alpha Fraternity of the “Mother of Alpha Endowment Award”, Rhonda Dunn and Fund(IDSEF) hosted its annual Black and Gold Ball, “A Night of Angela Wade Transcendence” on June 17 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner Hotel, McLean, Va. More than 700 guests gathered in the grand ballroom to celebrate and honor eight students – Tariq Edwards, Melvin Cloud Kendall Faison, Alex Fletcher, Norman Jones III, Lamontre Jiggetts; Michael Lawrence, Fernando Ramos and Josh Welch – for excelling in academics, leadership, extracurricular Karen and Chris activities and Washington community service.

The District of Columbia State Athletic Association(DCSAA) hosted its inaugural High School Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on June 8 at the D.C. Office OF Cable, Television, Film, Music and Entertainment (DCCTFME). Ten men and women, who made remarkable contributions to scholastic and amateur sports, were inducted, including Elgin Baylor, Allen Chin, Mason Clark, Maurice “Maus” Collins, Adrian Dixon, Al Forman, Bob Headen, Lucille Hester, Butch McAdams, and Wanda Oates.

On June 8 the Universoul Circus hosted community day at the circus at Security Square mall in Baltimore County. Inspired by Baltimore native Cedric Walker, president of Universoul Circus and with the help of Larry Young, host of the Larry Young Morning Show on WOLB, Radio One, 2000 free tickets were given to children in the Baltimore community.
