Glitz, glamour and a whole lot of fun was evident at the 30th Anniversary Gala Scholarship Awards program, themed “Celebrating Black Business Wealth: The Harlem Renaissance to the 21st Century.” Nearly 400 guests enjoyed the PRT Reach Foundation and The President’s Round Table Gala that featured fabulous food and ladies dressed in extravagant ball gowns, cocktail dresses with embellished rhinestones, feather boas and high heels while many of the men wore three-piece tuxedos and bow ties. The real crowd pleaser for taking photos was the shiny red Rolls Royce parked on the ballroom floor, along with the back drop of the street lamps, typical of the night lights seen during the Harlem Renaissance era. In honor of the founding members of the Presidents’ Round Table, Raymond V. Haysbert, A. Tyrous “Terry” Addison, Dorothy E. Brunson and Osborne A. Payne, four $2,500 Entrepreneur Scholarships were awarded to students “in need” from HBCUs, Morgan State University, Coppin State

University, Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia. The 2013 President’s Award was presented to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Trailblazer Awards were presented to nationally syndicated columnist, senior analyst and now host of News One Now, Roland Martin, and Black Enterprise, the premier business, investing, and wealth-building media firm for African Americans. The Presidents’ RoundTable is an organization of 19 African-American entrepreneurs in the BaltimoreWashington, D.C. region which oversees and controls assets exceeding $800 million. Metropolitan AME Church’s congregation enjoyed twin feasts Nov. 3. First, in the main sanctuary there was the usual Sunday morning feast of prayer and song of praise. Then, in the Douglas Fellowship Hall, came the special once-a-year event as the church’s men staged their annual Men Who Cook event. Each year, the men of the church showcase their culinary skills by serving up a main dish or a dessert for the members and guests. Even Rev. Ronald Braxton took part, offering his sweet potato casserole. Photos by Danita Delaney
