On Oct. 14, more than 11,865 alumni, students and friends of Morgan State were in the stands cheering the Bears as they rolled to victory, 48-18 over the Savannah University Tigers during Morgan’s Homecoming weekend. The Bears Football team celebrated Homecoming in style with a big “W”. The Bears last home win was in 2016 against Delaware. The Morgan Bears will travel to Washington, DC to play the Howard University Bison on October 21 for Howard’s Homecoming.

33rd Annual Event Celebrates MSU’s 150 Years; Purpose, Promise and Progress (1867-2017)
The sold-out event was held at Martin’s West on Oct. 13 and Carol H. Cole and Anne Davis were event co-chairs. MSU graduate and comedian, Joe Clair (WPGC Radio) was the M.C., and the Panama Band provided the music. The MSU Choir performed as well. MD. State Comptroller Peter Franchot presented MSU President David Wilson with a citation. The Hon. Kweisi Mfume (MSU Chair, Board of Regents) and Rev. Frances “Toni” Draper (MSU Vice Chair, Board of Regents), were in attendance, as well as Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, a Morgan alum.

The Northern Virginia Chapter of the Virginia State University Alumni Association (VSUAA NOVA) hosted its 15th Annual Scholarship Dinner & Dance on Sept. 23 at the Sheraton Pentagon City in Arlington, Va. This event was a scholarship fundraiser for students who live in northern Virginia and attend Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.

On Oct. 4, Kaiser Permanente along with the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority and local officials held a groundbreaking ceremony in New Carrollton, Md. for its MidAtlantic States’ 49-acre complex, which is scheduled to bring about 850 employees. Senior Kaiser management members were on hand for the ceremony including Kim Horn, regional vice president and Clayton Mitchell, executive director, National Facilities Service Manager along with Vicki Davis, president, Urban Atlantic of Bethesda. Md. – the contractor assigned to construct the complex.
