TURKEY GIVE AWAY Nov. 20 was the annual Carmelo Anthony Family Foundation Thanksgiving Give Away. The Love Crowd Christian Light Church, located on Eutaw Place in Reservoir Hill, opened their doors to serve the community. The Carmelo Anthony Family Foundation in partnership with the Feed the Children Foundation, provided perishable and nonperishable items to the community.

28TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF TREES The Festival of Trees benefits the Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI), which specializes in helping children and young adults with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system. Christmas trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses are decorated by corporations and individuals and then sold to raise money for KKI. Major sponsors include BBT Bank, Erickson Living, Whiting -Turner Contracting Co. and Chick-fil-A Restaurants. The AFRO-American Newspapers was one of the media sponsors. Children were entertained by Santa, the Milk Shake Band and The Girl Scout Chorus of Central Md. There were pony rides, a carousel, remote control race cars, face painting, a model railroad display and cookie decorating. Attendance was expected to be over 50,000 people over the three day event. The Festival of Trees is at the Timonium Fairgrounds.

Larry Young’s birthday celebration was held at the Arena Players, the oldest continuously operating Black Theater in the United States, on Nov.16. Artartus Jenkins and Ms. Maybelle were the hosts. Performances were by Tapsicore Dance Group, Kenyatta Hardison, Monique Jones, Therm James Jr., Eddie Satterfield, Sandra Meekins and Tamba Giles. Awards were presented to Jean Cobb, Tabb Bishop, David McClure, Farhad Jafari, Michael Jenson, Corbin Smith, Kay Merrill Dr. Elaine Simon, Kamau High of the AFRO and Donald Owens. The Hon. Kweisi Mfume, Bernard “Jack” Young, Marilyn Mosby, Sen. Joan Carter Conway, Anthony McCarthy, A. Dwight Pettit,Travis Winkey, April Watts and D.J. Quicksilva were in attendance.
