Alpha Omega Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity held it’s 58th Annual Mardi Gras Feb. 6 at the Washington Hilton International Ballroom in Northwest, D.C. Several hundred members, patrons and friends crowded into the ballroom for an evening of gaiety, fun and merriment to celebrate the rich legacy of Alpha Omega and raise funds to benefit their scholarship fund and the chapter’s social action initiative to clothe and Chapter feed the hungry. A major highlight of the Mardi Gras was the crowning Basileus, of the 2015 Mardi Gras Queen, Brianna D. Jones, a Howard University Brother student by the chapter Basileus, Walter B. Hill Jr. Walter B. This was followed by the Parade of Patrons in Hill Jr. Costumes led by the Mardi Gras Combo. After the Brothers sang Omega Dear, dancing for all to the music of Just ‘s Friends Band. Congratulations to Brother Charles Briggs, Chairman of the Mardi Gras Committee for a Mardi Gras Queen, very festive affair. The Friends of Old Westview Cemetery (FOWC) 501©13, a non-profit organization located in Washington, D.C. held its l3th Annual Holiday Gala fundraiser at the Washington Navy Yard

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity’s Pi Omega Chapter held its 64th Annual Mardi Gras Weekend Valentine’s Day and President’s Day Weekend (Feb. 13–15) at the downtown Baltimore Hyatt Regency Hotel. The Friday Night Jump Off Party kicked the Omega Psi Phi weekend festivities off in style leading up to Mardi Centennial Gras Pi Omega Style where Brothers wined, dined, Grand Marshall and entertained their sweethearts with music by Al Junius The XOD Band and Old School Productions. The frigid weather could not stop the capacity crowd from enjoying the “Charm City Ques” primary fundraiser whose proceeds go to the Pi Omega Foundation that provides scholarships for students attending Historically Black Colleges/Universities in addition to other Social Actions projects in the community. Since its inception, the Baltimore Tuskegee Alumni Association and the Baltimore Tuskegee Alumni Foundation have been unwavering in their commitment to awarding scholarships to deserving students in the Baltimore community. The Baltimore Alumni group celebrated its 33rd Annual CarverWashington Scholarship Awards Loretta Richardson, Breakfast, Feb. 14, and recognized Ann McKee two prominent Baltimore leaders; notably, Landa R. McLaurin, president, Baltimore Metropolitan Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and retired educator for her distinguished leadership in education and dedicated service to the community and John “Jake” Oliver Jr., chairman of the board, CEO, and publisher of the historic AFRO-American Newspapers for his effective leadership in the media, significant contributions to business and education, and distinguished service to the community.
