Breve historia Brief history

La Calle de Jacometrezo de Madrid (España) desemboca en la Gran Vía. Durante la construcción de la Gran Vía esta calle se vio acortada desde la red de San Luis. Actualmente comienza en la Plaza del Callao y termina en la Plaza de Santo Domingo. Antes de la existencia de la Gran Vía ocupaba exactamente el denominado segundo tramo de ésta, desde la Plaza del Callao hasta la red de San Luis o calle de la Montera. El nombre se debe al escultor y lapidario italiano Jacome da Trezzo (se abrevia como Jacometrezo), que trabajó para Carlos V y Felipe II. Actualmente y tras la reforma de la Plaza del Callao llevada a cabo por el entonces alcalde de la ciudad, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, que consistió en eliminar el tráfico rodado en las inmediaciones y dejarla únicamente para los paseantes, dicha calle se ha convertido en un pequeño intercambiador de transportes, tanto de Metro de Madrid como de autobuses de la EMT de Madrid. La calle existía en Madrid en el siglo XVII. En su entrada había una cierta cantidad de tabernas. Una de las más conocidas era la Taberna del Águila. En esta calle llegó a vivir el Conde Salvatierra y el propio Jacome da Trezzo. La calle poseía numerosas librerías de viejo, de esta forma Valle Inclán en su obra Luces de Bohemia describe la librería de Zaratustra. Figuró la famosa Fonda de Genieys mencionada por diversos literatos de la época. En el número 17 de la calle se encontraba en sus inicios la primera factoría de cervezas de la marca Mahou. La pastelería Mallorquina existía inicialmente en la calle Jacometrezo (número cuatro), muy cercana a la Red de San Luis. La empresa estaba formada inicialmente por los empresarios Balaguer, Coll y Ripoll. Tras la Gran reforma de la Puerta del Sol la tienda se traslada de Jacometrezo a la Calle Mayor.

Jacometrezo Street in Madrid (Spain) leads to the Gran Via. During the construction of the Gran Via this street was shortened off from San Luis Drive Now it begins in the Callao Square and ends in Santo Domingo Square. Before the existence of Gran Via, Jacometrezo occupied exactly the second section of it, from Callao Square to Montera Street. The street is named as the Italian sculptor and lapidary Jacome Trezzo (abbreviated as Jacometrezo), who worked for Carlos V and Felipe II. Currently and after the reform of the Callao Square, which was conducted by the mayor at that moment, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon, with the idea of eliminating the traffic in the vicinity and left it only for walkers. This street has become a small public transport interchange, metro and buses. There are evidences that the street has existed in Madrid since the seventeenth century. At its beginning there was a certain amount of taverns, one of the best known was the Eagle Tavern. In Jacometrezo lived the Conde Salvatierra and, also the same Jacome Trezzo. The street had numerous bookstores, mentioned in Valle Inclan novels, like “Bohemian Lights” where it is narrated Zarathustra. It featured the famous Fonda de Genieys mentioned by several writers of the time. At number 17 of it was placed the first factory of Mahou beer brand. The famous Mallorcan Pastry initially existed at Jacometrezo (number four), very close to San Luis Drive. The company was initially formed by the entrepreneurs Balaguer, Coll and Ripoll. After the Great reform of the Jacometrezo Street, the pastry moved to Puerta del Sol.
