SURFING SPOT type: bachelor diploma location: Hel Peninsula, Poland year: 2016 tutor: Maciej Stojak

Surfing spot on the Hel Peninsula was designed as a system consisting of modular units with additional components. This universal structure can be placed anywhere, in every configuration. The purpose of the project was to create a space gathering water sports and active life enthusiasts. This temporary complex built only for summer season is easy to discase and carry by different means of transport. A part of the camping was chosen in order to present the sample arrangement of units. An unit with appliances that use renewable sources of energy, with kitchen and bathrooms connected, is the heart of the system. It adjoins a dining place, meeting point and two-storey, observation post. Dwelling units are located on the edge of the calm forest, with the possibility to control storerooms containing sports equipment. The whole complex fits the context and opens towards the water. Each unit is made of recycled standard shipping container, adapted to a place for living. All the elements have door and window holes cutted out and are fitted with furnishings. The complex was designed to meet the expectations of today’s dynamic users, as a simple and functional. The main purpose was to create a place for meeting new people and sharing their passions.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART type: concept location: Wrocław, Poland year: 2016 tutor: Paweł Kirschke

Located in the World War II damaged city part, the site, as an angular infill, integrates already existing buildings and arranges the space, introducing a new urban quality. An entrance plaza and a waterfront restaurant provide a public gathering place, reviving a bit forgotten neighbourhood. Interiors consist of spacious, transformable areas. Besides traditional enfilade rooms hosting temporary displays, building’s exhibition space is enriched by a large, sky-lit three-storey-high lobby. Exterior’s minimal form was achieved by using full height glass panels alternating with solid concrete panels. The building’s additional function - reading room with multifunctional space - is located on the top two floors in a tower, an architectural dominant of the surrounding. This part is accessible by its own entrance from the hall and can be run entirely separately.

ECO HABITAT type: concept year: 2014 tutor: Anna Bać

A natural habitat is an environmental area where different species find the most convenient living conditions. As far as a human being is concerned, habitat is a specific dwelling that satisfies natural needs, giving a possibility to develop. It’s an easy adjustable place facing changing conditions, where neighbourly relations are built and the need to belong is fulfilled. The site, consisting of modular terraced houses, can be easily expanded. There is an extra, two-storey unit designed for particular family - wealthy couple with two children. The house is connected with the doctor’s office accessible from the public pedestrian precinct. The project was developed with the aim of using pro-ecological solutions: recovered building materials, water-saving devices, renewable energy resources, hybrid ventilation and waste recycling. Greenery plays the major role not only for human, but it’s also beneficial for animals.

FLOATING OFFICE type: competition location: Opole, Poland year: 2017 cooperation: Mateusz ĹšnieĹźek organiser: Bargework

In order to create an unconventional office space located on the water, the traditional model of working behind the desk was replaced by the possibility of various uses. Consequently, the users are able to think and invent while riding a stationary bike, walking out on the terrace overlooking the river, working on a laptop lying on a pouf or a large grid hammock placed over the winter garden vegetation. Workspace allows employees either to gather all together at the big table or seat separately at the desks. Individual units can be freely joined, according to the needs. The new waterfront promenade is a recreational space where people can meet, sit in the sun and simply enjoy their time by the river. The place was supplied with numerous seats, green areas, bike lane and a kayak rental as an additional attraction. Linear system of platforms will allow the harbour to be extended with other floating units in the future.

PEDESTRIAN CITY type:concept location: Wrocław, Poland year: 2017 cooperation: Dominika Słowicka tutor: Marzanna Jagiełło

East-West route, one of the busiest in Wrocław, is a beltway that crosses the Old Town. The importance of cutting down on the traffic on this road has been a topic of numerous debates for years. The Ghetto Heroes Square is a part that deserves a special attention. It’s today’s form of a transport hub makes it difficult to walk between significant pedestrian city parts. Introducing a pedestrian priority zone, marked by the change of pavement colour and limiting the road to one traffic lane for each direction is a solution to the problem. Drivers are forced to slow down and focus their attention. The urban space is enriched with colorful benches, bicycle racks and greenery. The central point of the site, where the most popular footpaths meet, stands out as a luminescent spot from which the small pavement diodes fan out. The project also focuses on bringing back the character of Psie Budy street, that once used to be a tiny, charming marketplace, by filling a place with residential-commercial building. The new semi-private space with community gardens and recreational zone encourages habitants to socialize and spend their free time outside.

DĄBIE TRAM DEPOT RENOVATION type: concept location: Wrocław, Poland year: 2017 tutor: Bogusław Wowrzeczka

Besides the fact that shopping, preparing meals and consuming is, for all of us, an everyday life, not everyone has enough time to eat consciously and healthy. The place, connecting public market with greenhouse, restaurants and open access kitchens, not only educates but also serves as a place for people to gather and relax with their friends, buy local, sustainable food and even gives an opportunity to grow and sell own crops. While developing the design, it was important to support both the evolving functions of the public space and the site’s history. Location in the district of Biskupin, guarantees an attention of numerous habitants, students from nearby dorms and the passers-by visiting parks and cultural sites in neighbourhood. Large, multifunctional hall with the stage and a gallery can become an event space for concerts, workshops, meetings or presentations. In addition, to continue the concept of the 1929 WUWA building exhibiton, the new workplace is set up on extant tramway tracks. Flexible system of modular office units can be connected into bigger structure.
