CARICOM PROGRAM
Chilean Cooperation with The Caribbean: A Partnership that moves forward During many years, the Caribbean Community has represented for Chile a vital space for development cooperation, being this a long-term contribution that has not only enriched the quality of life of its inhabitants, but has also allowed the establishment of strong ties among both parties, as well as a real effort to the regional integration between the Caribbean and Latin America. Just during the last two years, 2012 and 2013, Chile has shared its South-South and Triangular Cooperation experience through technical assistance projects on education, agriculture, disaster prevention, international relations and diplomacy, and with specific activities in mining, fishing and health. This shows a real and lasting commitment to assist the Caribbean countries in their own development. In this way, Chile has become a true partner, sharing good practices in public policies and strengthening skills in promoting regional development, sharing experiences and enhancing the quality of community life, building bridges of integration to unite us as people. In this sense, the learning of spanish as a communications and cultural integration resource has been one of the Chilean - Caribbean cooperation efforts that has an important impact among Caribbean teachers and diplomats because they expand and diversify the opportunities of its people. High-level international meetings have enabled the cooperation commitment of many countries with the Caribbean Development, i.e. the Conference of Heads of Government of the CARICOM (March 2012) and the First Summit of Heads of State and Government in the framework of the EU - CELAC meeting (January 2013). These meetings, among other initiatives, have allowed the planning of a better chilean cooperation strategy towards CARICOM. Together with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and with countries such as Mexico and Spain, Triangular Cooperation has also consolidated as a long-range instrument to develop several cooperation projects through technical assistance and capacity building as an efficient tool complementary to bilateral cooperation.
