AGCSA Monday Workshop Sessions Presented in partnership with Jacobsen
How to Survive, Thrive and Manage the Politics at Your Club
Stress management strategies for maintaining quality turf
Presented by David Bancroft-Turner, Joint Managing Director, The Academy of Political Intelligence, UK.
Presented by Jack Fry. Ph.D. - Professor, Kansas State University
David returns by popular demand to repeat his ‘sold out’ sessions from 2014.
Dr. Jack Fry is a Professor in the Department of Horticulture, Forestry and Recreation Resources at the Kansas State University. There, he teaches courses in turfgrass culture and golf course and sports turf operations, and conducts research on turfgrass environmental stressors, establishment and pest control.
Political behaviour is alive and well in golf clubs, schools and councils. This session will help you to recognise and manage politics more effectively, provide you with tips and suggestions to improve perfomance and introduce you to the four different political animals that exist in a workplace. Benefits of attending l Recognise political activities and how to manage more effectively l Design appropriate responses for positive outcomes l Create more productive and effective working relationships l Reduce frustration, anxiety and stress l Work productively with people you don’t like l Get things done in your organisation in spite of the ‘politics’ l Not becoming a ‘victim’ *Spaces in this workshop are extremely limited so please book in early to avoid missing out.
In this workshop Dr Jack Fry will provide an overview of basic growth characteristics and environmental adaptation of various turfgrasses. He will examine major environmental stresses that cause decline in turf performance and explain physiological reasons behind stress injury in turf. Finally, he will discuss management strategies to prevent stress injury and how to maintain high quality turf when water availability is an issue, during hot summer months, cold winter months and under shaded conditions.
Monday Workshop registration The Monday workshops are inclusive to all fully registered early bird delegates. A charge of $110 will be made to fully registered delegates who book after 1 May 2015. Day delegates will pay the full ‘daily rate’ and nominate Monday on the registration form. Please indicate on the registration form which workshop you wish to attend.

Taking the next Step Following on from the successful 2014 workshop, Daryl Sellar and former GCSAA president Bruce Williams will host two further workshops aimed at those looking to ‘step up’ into higher roles.
David Bancroft-Turner The Academy for political Intelligence – UK
Part 1 – Superintendent to General Manger Designed for those looking to step off the course and into the club house, this workshop will include insights from former superintendents that have moved to management positions, the skills superintendents can bring to the role of General Manager, advice on further education, discussion on how to break down the barriers and what is holding you back, what to include in job applications and curriculum vitaes, thinking, acting, dressing like a manager and interview tips and techniques.
The Academy runs a wide range of performance improvement workshops globally, in addition to providing critical information for business leaders in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. In today’s increasingly complex work environment, studies have called political intelligence ‘the missing leadership competency’ because the ‘traditional’ skills of leadership are no longer sufficient to guarantee personal and organisational success. During the week David will host the following workshops (max 40 per session) to help you recognise and deal with the politics around you. l How to survive, thrive and manage the politics at your club. l Change management – How to get people to do what you want. l Changing behaviour – The Feedback Tool guaranteed to get people to do things differently. John Neylan John will present in both the Golf and Sportsfield streams looking at disease and turf managment throughout humid, summer conditions.
Part 2 – Assist. Superintendent to Superintendent This workshop offers insight into how to enhance your personal and professional skills to increase your opportunities when seeking your next role. Includes insights from recently promoted assistant superintendents, planning your career development, identifying the job you are aiming for, curriculum vitae and tips. Cricket Wicket Intensive A two hour block where delegates will; l Hear from Cricket Australia on the work they are doing to build relationships with curators on all grounds from school to grade, state and elite venues. l Learn the latest on Drop in Wickets l Ask the experts Q and A.
