THE DUMBARTON OAKS RESEARCH LIBRARY AND COLLECTION & GARDENS Dumbarton Oaks Estate was originally purchased by Mildred & Robert Woods Bliss in 1920, as a 53 acres parcel, described as “an old-fashioned house standing in rather neglected grounds” at the highest point of Georgetown. They hired famed landscape gardener, Beatrix Farrand, to design the gardens. Eventually in 1940 they gifted 16 acres to Harvard University, 10 to the Danish Embassy and the remaining 27 to The US Park Service (now part of Montrose & Rock Creek Parks). MONTROSE PARK The Montrose Park is a public park, owned by the federal government, located in the 3000 block of R Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C., in the Georgetown neighborhood. It is located between Dumbarton Oaks Park, and Oak Hill Cemetery. In addition to a large children’s play area in the back of the park, there are two sets of tennis courts, as well as open space with footwalks and trails which lead into Rock Creek Park.
