Tuesday 14th April 2015 Olympia, London
A very warm welcome to you all, and welcome to the second London Book Fair International Excellence Awards, organised in partnership with The Publishers Association (UK). Tonight is a truly international celebration. These awards showcase an increasingly global industry and honour the people behind the most successful companies and initiatives in world publishing – whether that might be a reading scheme in Sub-Saharan Africa, a new app developed in Korea, or a new content platform in China. The first LBF International Excellence Awards had a fantastic reception last year and that has resulted in a huge increase in entries this year, with many more countries represented. Globally, publishing is a 150 billion dollar industry, outstripping movies and video games. There are innovations in technology and education, new players keep coming into the market and wherever you look, there is tremendous energy and creativity. It is a hugely exciting time to be in the business and I am very proud that The London Book Fair is at the heart of it all, enabling every side of the content business. Congratulations to everyone shortlisted – you span the globe and are shining examples of innovation and success across the publishing industry. Sit back, enjoy the evening – you are the vanguard of the industry. Jacks Thomas, Director, The London Book Fair
The Publishers Association is a proud partner of the LBF International Excellence Awards as it demonstrates the exciting innovation occurring in publishing around the world.
