In the studio again for ACM Having converted a redundant wine bar in Guildford into the Artist Development Centre for the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) last summer space-pod were tasked with delivering phase 2 during their holiday recess. A broad package of works included a new toilet block, moving the main entrance to the rear of the building, building a new resource centre and finally a state of the art bespoke recording suite. The new facility is centred around an SSL Duality SE large format console with Dynaudio Air 25 3-way active nearfield monitors and further Dynaudio BM5A Two way active monitors to provide a 5.1 surround set-up. Within the suite is a separate live room capable of taking a 5 piece set and a separate vocal room, all linked to the control position by CCTV. The whole environment has been built to a high acoustic standard with the room tuned utilising sound absorption panels and bass traps and provides seating for 32 students to view the control position.

Space-pod completes Hyundai Motors UK Academy Training Centre
space
essential reading for business owners, financial directors & facility professionals
Hyundai has enjoyed growth and development in the UK over the past few years, with sales steadily increasing even after the end of the scrappage scheme. This is a great achievement and has enabled them to invest in its brand and crucially, its dealer network. An important part of this investment by Hyundai Motor Company is in training facilities and resources for its UK dealers, with the opening of its purpose built ‘Hyundai Academy Training Centre’ in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The purpose of the Academy is to improve the learning environment and delegate experience for all who attend the facility.
The facility has been fitted out with eight training rooms including a dedicated computer room, a technical training workshop, a mock showroom for sales and after-sales training and a large eatery area.
scope of the work carried out l Scheme Design & CAD planning. l Construction of internal walls, glass partitioning schemes & storage-wall systems. l Installation of acoustic folding partitions and ceiling systems. l Lighting, air conditioning, electrics and plumbing. l Interior colour scheme including decoration and carpets. l Corporate branding, including bespoke, digitally printed wall coverings. l Glass door and glass partition signage. l Carpeting & floor finishes. l Installation of bespoke eatery and changing room facilities. l 14 vehicle workshop/ technical area.
Working with Hyundai Motor UK, space-pod has been able to design and build a purposebuilt environment, which will provide the hub for all Hyundai Academy operations, the large majority of training, both technical and commercial.

Space-pod completes warehouse exit for Telent
from this...
to this... We don’t only build new environments and move companies in to them we also sometimes help customers to exit a facility. Here we completed a project of major dilapidations for Telent from their rented warehouse space at Chase Point in Coventry. Telent is a large technology services company providing a broad range of network and communications services across a variety of industries. They have unique scale, boasting one of the largest engineering field forces of its kind in the UK. With annual revenues of over £310 million and a track record for quality and delivery that is second-tonone, Telent demands similar levels of quality and service from the companies that they work with. Space-pod regularly works with Telent to maintain, transform and make their workspaces more productive and efficient, to meet the ever-changing demands of their business.

Why every office must change! We sit to work, we sit to drive, and we sit during our free time – on the sofa watching TV, at the movies, at the theatre and at the meal table. We have become a society of sitters!
It is really important to organise your workplace in such a way that you are unable to reach everything from your chair.
Prolonged sitting causes neck and backache, which now counts as one of the greatest problems facing health care (and business). Approximately 80 percent of the population suffers from backache at some time during their working lives. Currently, over a third of the adult population is affected.
The printer need not be in the same room. Filing placed outof-reach can induce you to stand up. Movement stimulates creativity! Maybe this is exactly why Einstein preferred to work at a high desk?
There are countless studies and websites dedicated to solving this issue – most of them focusing on selling extremely good, but expensive office chairs and although it is true that ‘what’ we sit on plays a big part in the solution, it’s not the whole story.
l approx. 50% sitting
Most modern computer workplaces allow us to take care of many things by simply clicking a mouse, not moving from our seat and our computer screen for hours at a time. However, does this improve or reduce productivity? Many studies have proved that ‘walking around’ more is not just a remedy against a frozen position, which can cause back ache, neck pain and headaches - it can also increase motivation and aid the willingness to perform at work.
As far as changing positions at work is concerned, the following breakdown can be recommended: l approx. 25% standing l approx. 25% moving At the same time, it is important that these positions are not held for too long. The body’s position should be changed regularly, i.e. 2 to 3 times an hour. More companies are starting to see the link between staff workplace discomfort and lost productivity/staff absenteeism and with the UK population now working longer before retirement it is vital to ensure that workplaces are not only conducive to working effectively, but that they also encourage an aging workforce to work ergonomically and avoid muscle discomfort and fatigue.

Re-designing and refitting an office to work effectively for a business AND the health of its staff is crucial to ensuring business success and staff welfare, but it can be daunting without the right expertise to ensure that there is minimal loss of working during the refit. ‘Out-of-hours office churn’ is the term that we use for moving, refitting and redecorating occupied office environments when they are not being used, usually at night or over the weekend. Our working day often starts at 5pm on a Friday when you and your staff are going home for the weekend! Typically in city centre locations with reasonable access, it is possible to relocate/refit 50 and 160 desk positions over a weekend dependant on the complexity of the requirement. Crucially, by first thing on Monday we’re always done and dusted, so that you and your colleagues can arrive at 9am and start work straight away in your new workspace.

space-pod news... Steam power is the only way to travel at Henley As in previous years, we once again chartered the impressive ‘Alaska’ Thames river cruiser (the oldest working steamer on the Thames, which is part of the National Historic Fleet) to entertain and thank some of our Customers.

We departed from Harleyford at 10:30am and leisurely made our way up the river to Henley, where we travelled around the Regatta course several times, enjoying the races and the atmosphere from the best seats at the event, before re-tracing our river trip back to Harleyford. All on-board were entertained by jazz saxophone group - Bass-ically Saxes (who space-pod sponsor) and with catering, wine, cold beers and pimms throughout the day! Thank you to all who helped it to be such a lovely day.
