What is an academic database? ď ą A database is a collection of bibliographical records structured into informative fields by (author, title, source title, type of document). ď ą Its content supports the research of students and faculty, its content is considered academic.


Multiple Databases â–Ą

If you are not sure which database corresponds to your research topic, you should start with a multi-topic database. Through these databases you may find important academic reviews and controlled vocabulary related to the topic.


Characteristics Search

Each academic database has unique search characteristics which are relevant to the topic and content of sources.

The majority of databases have common search characteristics. These are: Basic search, advanced search, controlled vocabulary, and filters of record fields or limits.


Characteristcs  Full- Text- these are found in two formats: HTML or PDF  Print/Save/Email □ Each database provides options to print, save, and send one or more records through email.


Characteristics Creation of bibliographical citations/ format ▥ Some databases provide the ability to create a bibliography or format records in a citation style such as MLA or APA. Look for links or buttons such as CiteNow!, Cite, or Cite this article.
