R O C C A

530 West 25th Street, New York, NY

An Italian-born artist living in Paris, Martina Della Rocca studied the techniques of the Old Masters at the Louvre School. She expresses herself in large-scale abstract pieces, with gestural imagery, attempting to convey her passion for life. She applies large brush strokes in vivid colors, representing the mood and tone of each pieces, and allows the painting to guide itself to completion. Her subjects and imagery take shape as she goes, and seem to explode onto the canvas in extravagant colors and lively scenes. She finds her inspiration from nature, and her travels and studies in art museums around the world. In her words, her main goal as an artist is “to express my sensibility, [and share] my joy of wandering in the imagery of shapes and colors with you !” Martina lives with her husband, French opera singer Jean-Phillipe Lafont, at “La Bergerie de l’Aqueduc”, which was built at the end of the 17th century and classified as a historical landmark building in France. It is in this haven, which was formerly inhabited by various artists for several decades, that Martina finds all her inspiration. Her passion outside of art is Music, and she divides her time between the two disciplines. Martina has exhibited her work with the Parisian gallery, Art Gallery Bansard Paris, Drou’Art Gallery in Dreux, and La collégiale of Chartres France, as well as Agora Gallery in New York City.

I live with my husband at the Bergerie del’Aqueduc; it is in this haven of peace, inhabited for several decades by artists, that I find all of my inspiration. I am most passionate about music, color, and am constantly in search of a better understanding of the relationship between the two. I primarily work with acrylic on canvas, creating large-scale compositions to proclaim my love for life. My mood of the moment guides my color palette and the themes I address tend to take shape in the action of creating, imposing itself in exploded shapes complimented by flamboyant colors. I love to depict nature within each of my pieces; the sky, the sea, the breath, and the movement of life. I hope to express my emotions and my joy of wandering within the imaginary place of shape and color.
