MASAKI HIROKAWA

530 West 25th Street, New York, NY

Masaki Hirokawa is a digital collage artist based in Toyama, Japan. Raised in a family with a deep connection to spirituality–Masaki’s grandfather was a temple carpenter–the artist creates photographic montages that are a striking blend of modern technology, traditional Japanese artistry, and Eastern mysticism and philosophies. By investigating the global interconnection brought forth by the digital age and the groundbreaking discoveries of quantum physics and mechanics on the nature of matter, Hirokawa explores the concept of separation. Rejecting the illusion of detachment and individuality, he emphasizes the interconnectedness of all beings and the inherent divinity within them.

Recently, Masaki has shifted his focus from visual expression to conceptual art, channeling the influx of thoughts from Tokyo, Japan. Masaki firmly believes that the world’s energy has veered towards the sacred, and as long as people embrace this shift without fear, a bright and new future awaits. His meticulously handcrafted photographic montages, created without the aid of artificial intelligence, serve as visual agents of purification for the heart and mind.

My work is a reflection of the world around me, drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature, sunsets, the sky, and the sea. In my abstract paintings I aim to capture the freedom and peace that I feel when immersed in the splendor of landscapes. However, my artistic journey extends beyond the serene vistas. Through my portraits, I embark on a journey into the essence of the soul, unveiling the depths of a person’s being through their eyes and facial expressions. I employ a glowing color palette and expressive brushstrokes to infuse emotional intensity into a person’s gaze, sometimes focusing solely on a portion of the subject’s face. While each portrait reveals a person’s unique cultural and social makeup it also sheds light on the universal human experience, awakening a powerful feeling of recognition within the viewer. My work serves as a catalyst for personal and social reflection, inspiring a unifying sense of harmony across humanity’s barriers and complexities.
