New Jersey-based Indian artist Shraddha Pundeer offers delicate glimpses into the intimacy of her feelings and surroundings. Her paintings capture the simple beauty of her everyday world; a world where she seeks the freedom to be her genuine self, despite any societal impositions. A clothing designer for most of her life, Pundeer’s subjects recall the elegant sinuosity of fashion illustrations. Graceful silhouettes espouse a soft color palette of pinks, light blues, and beiges; conveying an aura of romantic abandon that pervades her entire oeuvre. Pundeer defines her style as “figurative abstraction,” which combines loose figurative elements with non-representational forms inspired by nature. This unique blend of reality and fantasy is the key to Pundeer’s fierce exploration of the self and her domestic milieu. Pundeer grew up in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, surrounded by stunning architecture and wildlife. She later moved to New Delhi where she earned a Degree in Fashion Design. After relocating to the United States, Pundeer retired from her fashion career to devote herself entirely to painting. She has garnered a local following and has exhibited in galleries all over the Northeast.

I like to capture the beauty of everyday life. My art revolves around this concept and is designed to share the emotions I feel in my heart with the viewer. My studio is a wonderful place to experiment with new modes of expression. Taking an abstract approach gives me the freedom to create my own version of portraits and figures as a blend of fantasy and reality. I primarily work with acrylic paint and other water-based media, but do not limit myself to them. Each original work of art begins in my imagination, as a result of real life observations or arising from memories of travel experiences. I transform these ideas into visual expressions filled with color and energy.
