ZOE ANNA MOSS
Zoe Anna Moss is young, very young, and yet she has gone through hell and back many times in her life. As a recovering alcoholic, she channels the intensity of her emotions onto the canvas with all her might, tunneling through the pitchdark into the glowing light. Her paintings attest to the incredible resilience and strength she has found along the way, but also her newly discovered freedom. She pours, splatters, drips, and sprawls paint instinctively, using brushes, spray bottles, wooden spoons, her hands, and even fish tank cleaners. She works on traditional supports like canvas and canvas boards, but also humbler materials like cork, plywood, and cardboard. Her multi-paneled paintings are meticulously designed, but can be rearranged as pleased; a treasure chest filled with dozens of other jewels, perhaps encouraging us to appreciate the infinitely diverse, yet equally beautiful facets of life.
Moss was awarded a Certificate of Artistic Merit from the Luxembourg Art Prize in 2021; the Bronze Award for the Black & White Visual Arts Exhibition by Camelback Gallery, in Scottsdale, Arizona; and the Talent Prize Award from the “OPEN” International Juried Art Competition by Art Show International. She had a solo exhibition at Art Show International Gallery, in Los Angeles, and took part in a group exhibition at Plogix Gallery. Moss is from Sydney, Australia, but moved to northern Thailand during the pandemic, where she paints full-time, with the occasional help from her beloved dachshund Picasso.
If you are in your twenties and a recovering alcoholic, what else can you do to get “messy”? Instead of shoving my emotions down to the pit of my stomach, I throw paint. Paint lets me explore this world inside me that I’ve never been able to balance or even understand. As a result, my work is a combination of chaos and order. My multi-piece paintings are meticulously designed and measured, but when it comes to painting, I am completely free. I pour, splatter, drip, spray; I do what I feel in the moment. Although structured, the panels can be arranged and spaced out in different ways, creating a unique experience each time. No matter the composition however, the work captures my very essence, embodying the strength and resilience I am finding along the way.
