Welcome

to the 34th Annual Northern Progress Bull Sale. We have on offer one our best set of bulls ever with 31 high quality yearlings and 31 very good two years olds. 75% of these bulls are recommended for heifers and will have very consistent calving ease but still have enough performance and muscling for those second calvers and cows as well. We have bred mainly for calving ease and consistency ever since we started 35 years ago but we have also bought high end, well muscled calving ease herd bulls. Whether you are looking for one or several heifer bull or bulls for your cows you can be guaranteed to find them on our selection of Red Angus bulls.

These bulls have been fed free choice hay, silage mixed with tub ground straw and hay plus pail fed BeefSmart crumbles twice a day at a rate of 1.25% of their body weight. This allows the bulls to show their potential growth and muscling while still allowing them to last for years to come. We try for a 3 lb per day rate of gain.

The Northern Progress Bull Sale will take place in our Quonset on our farm. It will be a video sale with the bulls in small pens for your viewing on Sale morning. The bulls will also be available for viewing anytime at the farm before the sale. Just give us a call and we will have the coffee on and give you a tour. All bulls will be semen checked before the Sale and guaranteed. We live by the rule that we will treat everyone as we would like to be treated under the same circumstance. If you have any problems with one of our Red Angus bulls please let us know as soon as possible and it will be promptly dealt with. We are willing to keep all bulls after the Sale and deliver them to the new owner when needed. Insurance on the bulls left with us is recommended. There are lots of options to purchase the bulls. Best to come in person and enjoy our complimentary beef on a bun and some refreshments. But if you cannot attend the Sale it will be on DLMS with video or you can bid on the phone with ourselves or one of our Sale staff. Welcome to the 2024 Edition of the Northern Progress Red Angus Bull Sale. “Wow” what a time to be in the beef cattle business, cattle prices are at an all-time high and it looks like these prices are going to stick around for some time. The population of the North American cow herd is at an all-time low, and the rebuilding process will take time. The only way to rebuild is to breed heifers. The RSL program excels in the calving ease trait and are leaders in the industry in selling heifer bulls. It’s been a long time coming, and for you cattle producers who have persevered, you will definitely be rewarded.

This year’s Northern Progress Sale offering will be no different from any other year. Top Quality Red Angus Bulls representing the most superior genetics available within the breed, will be sold by public auction. For many years the Laycock family at RSL Red Angus have been providing herd bulls to the most progressive cattle producers throughout the country.

The bull sale line up will consist of over 60 Red Angus yearling and two-year old bulls. The genetic make-up of these bulls has been carefully designed emphasizing calving ease genetics, with excellent performance stats. If you’re looking at breeding large groups of heifers, be sure to select your bulls from this program, you will sleep easy during calving season and experience an excellent pregnancy test in the fall. It doesn’t get much better than that.

CATALOGUE DESIGN

The RSL bulls have an excellent reputation for being very quiet. Robbie goes through the pens with a comb, on a regular basis scratching each bull, preparing them for their new owner. These bulls have been developed the right way, rations designed to develop the bulls at an acceptable pace, guaranteeing longevity.

Robert Laycock and the RSL program has been well received by both the Purebred and Commercial cattlemen and one can attest that he has certainly mastered producing bulls that fit in all types of breeding programs.

Once again, we offer you a powerful lineup of yearling and coming 2-year-old bulls. Bulls that have been grown responsibly, not force fed but fed to express their ability to convert a high roughage TMR ration into pounds of red meat. The 2-year bulls were held over specifically to compliment the yearling bulls on offer. They will cover more cows and work great in larger pastures.

Our bull calves and their mothers were kept on seeded pasture this year that really didn’t turn out very well. Multi crop with a lot of weed pressure. Because of our pasture situation we had to move the cows September 1st so we chose to wean the calves 5 weeks earlier than normal. The weaning weights are quite a bit lower than they normally are in October.

RSL 14L is a very impressive bull, you would drive a lot of miles to see a better one. He is extremely wide, deep bodied, thick muscled with a hind quarter rarely seen in Red Angus bulls. His dam is a Flying K Wyoming daughter and grandam is a Redman 1T daughter, this should guarantee low birthweight. Dam averaged 74 lbs on 4 calves.(all under 80 lbs) I believe he could be used on heifers but when you see him in person you will want to put him with some cows as well.

Two Year Old Bulls | Lot 32-53

The two year old bulls were selected for two years olds as calves, pastured separately and weaned a little later (2-3 weeks) than backgrounded on silage, chopped hay and straw. Then they are put out on grass June 1st until September 15th and brought home to be fed very similar to the bull calves on a percentage of their weight.

Our Fall bulls are born in August raised on their mothers over the winter and weaned in April. Then they go on grass with the two’s and then fed with the two’s over winter. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

BIDDING: Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder whenever there are two or more bids.

BIDDING DISPUTES: The auctioneer will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision on such matters shall be final.

TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash. The right property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements will be made with the clerks of the sale immediately following the conclusion of the sale and before any cattle will be released from the ranch.

PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be fed, watered, and cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable time.

DELIVERY AT COST: Or haul your own and save delivery costs (See inside front cover for details).

INSURANCE: An insurance representative of a major livestock insurance company will be present to care for insuring cattle.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: A certificate of registry and transfer will be furnished for

each animal sold as a registered animal, after settlement has been made.

HEALTH: All cattle will be in excellent health.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Changes of information contained in the catalogue relating to the animals offered for sale will be announced from the auction box and such announcements shall take precedence over the printed matter in this catalogue.

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE: All animals sold are guaranteed breeders by the owner. Any animal that has not proven itself a breeder within six months after the date of sale, if in healthy condition, may be returned to the seller at the buyer’s expense. The seller reserves the privilege of trying for a period of six months to prove the animal a breeder. The seller at his option may either return the purchase price to the buyer or replace the animal with another of equal quality in full settlement of ALL claims. Yearling bulls shall be guaranteed breeders for no more than twenty-five females. All complaints regarding

breeding difficulties must be reported in writing by the buyer to the seller within the specified time above, and any animal returned must be free from disease and in good health. All bulls will be scrotal measured and semen tested prior to sale and sell as guaranteed breeders. Scrotal measurements will be available sale day.

IDENTIFICATION: Each purebred animal carries a readable tattoo.

LIABILITY: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyer, neither owners, sale manager, clerks nor anyone connected with the sale assumes any responsibility, legal or otherwise, for damage of any kind.

CONTRACT: The above terms and conditions shall contribute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal sold.
