Living soil - The International Year of Soils, following from the International Year of Family Farming builds further on the opportunity to address the systemic crisis brought about by negative feedback loops between economy and ecology. Soils are a critical interface between economy and ecology, but industrial agriculture exploits soil by reducing it to an inanimate substance and the result is large tracts of degraded farmland worldwide. To mark this important year for soils, this issue of Agriculturas calls for the conditions needed to reverse soil degradation and documents experiences from family farmers working with living soil.
