Producers and consumers - The direct relationship between producers and consumers of agricultural products is important – producers receive better prices and consumer higher quality food. In this issue LEISA Revista presents experiences where, even on a small scale, we can see that urban consumers are more informed and there is a growing motivation for purchasing healthy food that is free of pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
The many ways in which producers are organising to bring organic and agroecological products to consumers is escalating. Read about the pioneering experiences with markets and fairs that link farmers with consumers in Lima and other cities of Peru. And, how a new form of “coordination between agroecology and environmental citizenship” is emerging. An experience from Ecuador highlights the important role that informed urban consumers play for agroecological farming.
