ntroducing exciting new Ifor Williams trailers for 2014 If you’ve always thought of trailers as a functional purchase rather than something to positively enhance the way you live and work, then prepare to think again. After a confident start to trading for 2014, expert retailer T H White are looking forward to taking delivery of some exciting new products from legendary trailer manufacturer Ifor Williams. Joining the already illustrious line up for this iconic Welsh brand comes a new horse trailer with living accommodation called the ‘Eventa’, a 21 tonne commercial livestock trailer called the ‘StockMaster’, the Q Range, the braked P-Range and the revolutionary ‘Business inabox’ - essentially a mobile business on wheels. Given the exciting possibilities these products offer both the business and private customer, it is not surprising that T H White are already taking pre-orders. For a company that prides itself on quality products and exceptional service, these forthcoming additions to T H White’s portfolio present an exciting opportunity to provide their customers with even greater purchasing choices.
With Agri-News yet to catch sight of these new trailers, we asked T H White trailer specialist Graham Martin for his views. Graham has already seen these trailers up close and personal having attended the Ifor Williams factory preview in late 2013, and he confirms just how impressive they are. “These four new products are world class with the legendary finish you can expect only from Ifor Williams trailers. You simply cannot beat the reliability, quality and iconic nature of what Ifor Williams produce, and with these latest trailers, they are going to appeal to both existing customers and a whole new generation looking to expand their horizons and boost their transportation possibilities.” You don’t just have to take Graham’s word for it, however, as T H White plan to show off the ‘Eventa’, the headline-grabbing new release from Ifor Williams, at this year’s Royal Windsor Show in May and The Royal County of Berkshire Show at Newbury in September. This will be your opportunity to not only view the product, but also talk to the expert T H White team. Trading with T H White means

SECURITY
KEEPING YOUR PROPERTY AND POSSESSIONS SAFE & SECURE
R
esidents are being asked to be vigilant after two quad bikes and a ride-on mower were stolen in North Worcestershire. The first incident happened between 3pm and 3.30pm on Monday, 10th March, in Trickses Lane, Ham Green, near Redditch, when offenders forced entry to a secure shed and stole a green Weed Eater ride on mower worth £1,500 and Husqvarna strimmer worth £200. A neighbour reported seeing a green Ford Transit-type van on the grounds of the property around 3pm. Between 4pm on Monday, 10th March and 11am on Tuesday 11 March, in Foley Gardens, Stoke Prior, access was forced to a secure garage and a green Yamaha quad bike registration number VU11 EYC was stolen. It was worth £5,500. At around midday on the Monday two men in a van had pulled up outside the address and offered to cut the tree down in the rear garden. At that time the victim was in his garage with the door open and took them to his garden
to discuss the work before declining the offer. There was also an incident in Fockbury lane, Dodford between 12 noon and 5pm on Wednesday 12 March when entry was gained to a secure barn and a Suzuki 250cc quad bike worth £1,600 was stolen. At around 3pm a man visited the address and asked the victim if she wanted work doing on her trees, which she declined. He is described as white, aged 35 to 40, 5ft 9ins tall, of stocky build, with wavy thick dark hair, and wearing a black t-shirt. PC Greg Moorman of West Mercia Police said: “We are looking into whether these incidents are linked, and in the meantime are asking residents, particularly those living in rural areas near Bromsgrove and Redditch, to be vigilant and to consider improving the security of outbuildings. “We are also appealing to people to be on their guard if they are approached by anyone cold-calling and offering to do work for them, such as cutting down trees. If work really needs doing, it is best to ask friends, family or neighbours to
recommend a reputable company, and make an appointment for someone to call round to give a quote at a convenient time.” Land Rover Stolen In Wythall Car Key Burglary Police are appealing for information about the theft of a £50,000 Land Rover from Wythall. It was taken from the Station Road/Norton Lane area of Wythall between 8.15pm on Wednesday, 12th March, and 8am on Thursday, 13th March. Offenders are believed to have got into the house through a rear door which was unlocked, and taken the keys from off a worktop. They drove off in the black vehicle, registration number BF 62 XFY. Another vehicle belonging to the owner, a silver Audi estate, was searched but not stolen. Detectives are looking into whether the incident is linked to several thefts from vehicles in Wythall overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. There were two incidents at dif-
ferent addresses in Selsdon Close in which a Citroen Picasso was broken into and items stolen (no details) and CDs worth £30 and a bag worth £10 were taken from an insecure Ford Ka. There was also a theft in Innistree Close which was discovered on Thursday but could have happened any time since 3rd March in which a Fiat was broken into and an iPhone worth £60 stolen along with £20 cash. Police believe the owner of the stolen Land Rover may have been followed home earlier in the evening. Detective Constable Cheryl Jones of West Mercia Police said: “Car key burglars often work to order and will target specific vehicles, based on demand and value. “They often follow victims home or drive around residential areas looking for opportunities. Anyone who thinks they are being followed or see any suspicious vehicles, should note the registration number and report it to the police.” Vehicle owners are advised to park overnight in a secure garage if possible.

uilding on the award winning success of the original machine the new second generation XCEL 1250 Rear Discharge Spreader is due to hit the UK in February 2013. With the invaluable feedback from our customers, our engineers and designers have implemented many tweaks and improvements to enhance the XCELs performance further. The new XCEL 1250 retains the patented and prov-

en chain flail and spinning disc spreading system and has being refined to improve both the spread pattern and adjustability. The spreading system can handle a number of different materials including farmyard manure, chicken manure, compost and sludge. The chain flails allow a greater capability to handle foreign objects in the manure (stones, cement blocks etc.) than auger type machines. The XCEL gives a very even spread pattern in excess of 16
metres and 20 metres plus with some materials. The new machine uses marine type double floor chains to convey the manure and ensure an even feed to the spreading discs. The marine chain allows the XCEL 1250 to work very well with all material types, both wet material and very dry material and provide a steady flow of material to the flails and spinning discs. The XCEL 1250 is a high output spreader and for our customers, downtime is not an option. Keeping this in mind our engineers have simplified the chain tensioning & hydraulic systems to ensure maintenance is quick and easy. The body sides are now curved; where as in the first generation machines they were angular. This increases the internal volume while also having the advantage of reduced chances of material bridging. The original XCEL 1250 has been popular with customers all over the world for its excellent
spread and high output, the new generation XCEL 1250 builds on this success. For more info please contact Hi Spec Engineering Ltd., Station Road, Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, Ireland. AMAZONE TO LAUNCH THE NEW ZA-TS SUPER AT CEREALS 2014
A
mazone, as the harvest to harvest specialists, understand totally the needs of the arable farmer and the range of kit now offered increases year on year to cope with those demands. The last 12 months has seen the return of the plough to the Amazone portfolio and Cereals 2014 will feature again the first of the new production machines in the Cayron range. Continuing on the cultivation front, the new Cenius 6003-2TX mulch cultivator will make its British debut at Chrishall Grange as well as a brace of new Cirrus cultivator drills, one with fertiliser application as well as grain. On the spraying and spreading side, Cereals 2014 will see the Pantera 4502 in the demonstration ring for the first time as well as the launch of the new smaller capacity ZA-TS, the ZA-TS Super Profis Hydro. With these impressive highlights in mind we will take a look at the releases in a bit more detail: ZA-TS 3200 Super Profis Hydro fertiliser spreader
It is just a year now since the first ZA-TS Ultra Profis Hydro was delivered and, at Cereals 2013, we saw the machine on the stand for the first time. Spring 2014 has seen many of the new ZA-TS Ultra spreaders out in the field doing what they do best; spreading 36 metres or more at 600 kg/ ha, and all this at 30 km/h. The im-provement in yields around the field boundary made possible by the AutoTS spread-ing system has been shown to be around 15% higher than other border spreading systems and this equates to about £38/ha in added income; in other words the spreader will pay for itself in a year on a little over 500 ha of arable land. The in-cab control over spread pattern and border spreading, plus the new 8 section automatic part-width shutoff system, makes using the new TS a doddle. However, for the smaller farmer, the 4200 litre hopper capacity with its hydraulic rollover hopper cov-er and integrated parking wheels could well be a little over the top and so Cereals 2014 sees the launch of the new smaller ZA-TS Super. With hopper sizes
of either 2700 or 3200 litres and a maximum payload of 3,200 kg, the Super has a maximum spreading width of 36m using the TS 1 or TS 2 spreading system. The roll-over cover is manually actuated. Control is still ISOBUS only and half-side automatic headland shut-off is offered on the mechanical PTO-driven Profis spreaders or the 8-section system on the Profis Hydro. The twin weigh-cell system with 200 Hz weighing and tilt sensor is still standard on the Super. CCI 100 ISOBUS terminal
The CCI 100 terminal is a joint project between leading machinery manufacturers and the CCI (Competence Centre ISOBUS) to develop a modern terminal that is operator-friendly to machine rather than tractor operation. The new Amazone CCI 100 has an 8.4” touch screen with additional soft keys and is ideal for operators switching between a Krone baler, Grimme harvester or Amazone sprayer as the menu layout is identical from machine to machine making operation so much simpler.

NEW HOLLAND WELCOMES FIRST BASILDON FACTORY WORKERS FOR 50-YEAR REUNION
N
ew Holland kicked off the golden jubilee celebrations of its flagship tractor factory in Basildon by reuniting over 70 veteran workers who clocked in on its opening day 50 years ago. Since the plant’s launch in 1964, more than 1.8 million British-made machines have rolled off the now two-kilometre production line. The site employs 1,000 people, makes 23,000 tractors each year, and uses 600 tonnes of material every day. To mark half a century of achievements and to thank dedicated employees, on Thursday March 13th New Holland Managing Director Andrew Watson welcomed the guests in the Customer Centre, prepared in a special 50th anniversary livery, before inviting them to a guided tour of the plant and a special lunch in the inspiring state-of-the-art show room. At the event was one of the early plant managers, 73-year-old Bob Friedlander, who was in charge from 1985-92 but first arrived in 1963 as a graduate trainee. He said: “The whole assembly site has moved forward in leaps and bounds. It’s become far more efficient and safer. We’re all thrilled to see the Basildon plant still exists and is going from strength to strength.” The first models produced were the Ford 3000, 4000 and 5000 series but Basildon is now home to the powerful and popular T6 and T7 ranges. They fly the flag for British manufacturing in 120 export markets worldwide, helping to make New Holland one of the UK’s top 15 exporters. As well as investing in the local area, the site has grown into a centre for New Holland’s technological and environmental advances. It is capable of producing 14,500 bespoke combinations of specifications. “It’s like stepping into the future,”
commented Francis Perkins (73), a former forklift driver, after finishing the tour. Don Ayrton (83), who worked at Basildon for 29 years, added: “It’s beautifully clean and unbelievably efficient. The working environment is infinitely better and it’s very, very modern and the quality that is being produced now is better too.” Recent high points at the factory have included the opening of the new Customer Centre in 2011, a visit by Prime Minister David Cameron in 2012, and in 2013 when the Customer Centre was expanded with a dedicated show room. Early this year, New Holland also won three FIMA and six AE50 innovation awards, setting it apart for its productive and profitable machinery. The current Plant Manager, Colin Larkin, himself started on the assembly line in 1985. He said: “It was a pleasure seeing so many familiar faces back at Basildon and that such experienced workers were all so impressed with how it has developed and improved. “In 50 years it’s become a much more modern plant producing a much more sophisticated product, which is thanks to the investment which has also created the dedicated Customer Centre. “I think the reunion highlights the camaraderie and our long history. About half the current workforce is from Basildon and it shows the local people too that we’re here for good.” Andrew Watson added: “The reunion is important for us because the people who set up the plant in 1964 are actually part of the heritage of the New Holland brand and culture of the factory. “The fact that the plant is the only tractor factory left in the UK is something they can take pride in. It’s a strategic plant for New Holland because the products we
Tel: 01432 800514 | Email: info@agri-news.co.uk
make are an increasingly important segment in the tractor market. “The plant has a tremendous amount of flexibility for the future, it’s perfect logistically, and we’re not looking to go anywhere else. We’re here to stay; modernizing, training and serving the customer. We’re in for the long haul.” “New Holland Launches News Application for Farmers” Farming News by New Holland Agriculture: the go-to app for farmers A comprehensive overview of agricultural news Farming News by New Holland Agriculture: the go-to app for farmers New Holland launched a new application for iPad and Android tablets, Farming News by New Holland Agriculture, developed specifically for farmers and others with an interest in agricultural topics. The app, now launched in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, meets the high demand for news aggregators and is unique in that it specialises in news tailored for the agricultural world. It will subsequently be extended to other countries and languages. By making it easy to follow all the news from the agricultural world in one place and share interesting news items through the main social networks or by email, Farming News by New Holland aims to become the go-to app for farmers to start their day. A comprehensive overview of agricultural news New Holland’s application is set up in four sections, providing a comprehensive overview of what is happening in the agricultural world: 1. UK and Ireland agricultural press, already
set up with feeds from the most important trade publications; 2. World agricultural institutions, with feeds from the Chicago Board of Trade and the European Agricultural Commission 3. New Holland news from the website and social networks 4. A personal area, where the user can set up their choice of feeds. Recent research has shown that as much as 95% of Europeans get their news from aggregators: now farmers in the UK and the Republic of Ireland can keep abreast of the latest information relevant to their business with this new app developed specifically for them. In the near future the app will be enriched with new sections to give farmers a complete update on the most interesting news for their business and their free time. “The app is available for iPad and Android tablets.”

STIGA Park Compact 16 4WD with 105cm Deck
A
t only 92cm/37” wide, the Stiga Park Compact 16 4WD is our smallest 4 wheel drive mower and has all of the features required to make maintaining and improving your lawn a ‘drive in the park’. Powered by a 500cc single cylinder Briggs & Stratton 4155 AVS engine, the hydrostatic 4WD transmission gives you infinite speed control in either direction from a single foot pedal. The Park Compact 16 4WD is fitted with a 105cm width cutting deck which easily converts from mulching to rear discharge for
longer grass conditions. The fuel tank capacity is 6 litres and the machine is fitted with an adjustable comfort seat and mechanical servo steering. This great little machine easily copes with soft wet ground conditions on a flat or sloping garden, manoeuvring quickly around all sorts of obstacles with no risk of the rear wheels dropping off the edge of the lawn or catching the back on fences or trees. TheMulticlip cutter deck is positioned at the front of the machine where you can clearly see it and cuts the grass before the wheels have a chance to lay it flat.
GROUND CARE
Stiga’s unique articulated chassis design ensures that the rear wheels follow exactly in the path of the front cutter deck, and the simple and effective 4WD system eliminates any tyre scuffing on your lawn whilst turning. All Stiga mowers are designed with functionality, reliability, comfort, quality and the environment in mind. Built today for tomorrow, all models come with a 3 year warranty on the machine and a 10 year warranty on the chassis.
Our all-new ATVs have been re-engineered to give you more. More all-day comfort thanks to longer travel, adjustable suspension and a redesigned saddle. 10% more fuel efficiency than previous models, and even more durability thanks to a computer aided design chassis and swing arm.
