As a result, the new ARION 400 is the fi st machine in its

NEW HOLLAND TRACTOR HELPS TACKLE COUNTRYSIDE CRIME

New Holland tractor has joined the ranks at Staffordshire Police to help tackle countryside crime.

The four-ton T5.105 Electro Command has been donated until November by New Holland dealership Hallmark Tractors, based in Ashbourne, to the county’s police force as a way of boosting visibility in rural areas and connecting with farmers. Agricultural communities can be very isolated and the police hope the tractor – decked out in police colours – will be a high profile and eye-catching way to engage more closely with busy residents and workers. Hallmark Tractors Managing Director Jim Nash explained: “New Holland and ourselves are very pleased to have the chance to help out our local police force to promote the many local farming-related services that they have on hand, and also to engage the public with the valuable services that the police off er.” The tractor joins Staffordshire Police’s ongoing operation in which every oﬃcer, including special constables, is tasked with detecting and

tackling rural and wildlife crime. Each has undergone special training and has the support of a lead oﬃcer in every local policing team. New Holland Sales Area Manager Rob Dee said: “Seeing the T5.105 in its police ‘uniform’ was a very proud moment. We’re delighted to be assisting oﬃcers to tackle crime, and reassure the farming community. “Our dealer network is a real strength of New Holland. This example of partnership goes to show that it’s not only of huge benefit to our customer service, but also to supporting local communities and services.” As well as being used

It was a star attraction at the force’s recent Open Day which drew nearly 7,500 people to its Stafford HQ. Inspector Geoff Knight, Commander of the South Staffordshire Local Policing Team, explained: “PC Pete Clarke, my Wildlife Oﬃcer, made the approach to Hallmark and they were more than receptive to the idea, given their close contacts in the farming community, awareness of the issues and its effects.

DEALERSHIP BACKS CHARITY BIKE RIDE IN MEMORY OF INSPIRATIONAL MAN

MITSUBISHI dealership in Gwynedd has backed a charity bike ride in honour of a paralysed rugby player whose story touched the hearts of Welsh rugby fans. Smithy Garage, in Dyffryn Ardudwy provided a Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck as a support vehicle for the ride, organised by Bala Rugby Club in honour of Bryan “Yogi” Davies. Mr Davies was captain in his retirement game playing for Bala against Nant Conwy in 2007 when he was left tetraplegic after a scrum collapsed.

After the accident he set up The Yogi Foundation, a charity to help families like his own, and he was also determined to see an extension built at Bala Rugby Club to provide a kitchen so the children could sit and eat together after matches Sadly, the father-of-two passed away last year, aged 56, but members of Bala Rugby Club and others took on the charity bike ride he had planned and have so far raised more than £14,000. Starting from Holyhead on July 30, more than 20 cyclists headed to Porthmadog with a

stop in Menai Bridge. On day two they set off from Porthmadog to Aberystwyth, calling in at Dolgellau RFC, while day three saw them head for Crymych RFC, where they were joined on the ride by former full-back Rhys Williams, who won 44 caps for Wales. The final day, on Saturday, August 2, saw the riders joined by four of the Scarlets players as they arrived in Llanelli for the first day of the National Eisteddfod. was going to do it in his wheelchair but he sadly passed away last year. When they asked us to help we were more than happy to be involved with such a great cause.
