SIROMER
SIROMER ADD POWER TO THEIR LINE UP
S
iromer, a compact tractor and equipment company that built a reputation on incredible value flat pack tractors, are set to release a new more powerful range of tractors. First seen at the Royal Cornwall Show, the new CH range will comprise of three tractors fitted with either a Fourty, Fourty Five or Fifty horse power engine. The new range will sit along side the two
already established ranges; The EU and Field range. The new higher horse power tractor was inevitable from a company that have been expanding since their introduction at the turn of the millenium. Not a company to shy from changes, the CH range will be aimed at land owners, fisheries, foresters and small holders that need a bit more oomph from their machine.
More horses require a bigger chassis, and the 504CH (50hp), boasts a chassis 65% larger than the current new range Siromer. The chassis’s extra weight means that the lift capacity of the new range also makes for impressive reading, with the largest tractor capable of lifting a staggering Two tons on its rear linkage. The important figure, as ever, is price. An area in which

Siromer usually impress, Prices for the 40/45hp have not yet been confirmed, but a spec sheet for the 50hp, again seen at the Royal Cornwall, displayed a retail price for the tractor of ÂŁ10,500 +VAT. This price suggests that though we may be about to see a new Siromer range, the ethos of offering great value tractors remains the same. As always, the full schedule of over 1,220 livestock classes and special awards are attracting entries from far and wide. Last year saw nearly 7,500 entries coming from across Wales, the UK and the rest of Europe, and it already looks like we will get the same numbers
again for this year’s show, promising a popular and exciting four-day’s of competitions. In addition to the fantastic livestock, the Royal Welsh Show provides something to interest everyone through its wide range of activities including forestry, horticulture, crafts, countryside sports, food and drink and a 12-hour programme each day of exciting entertainment, attractions and displays.
The big attraction in the main ring this year will be the amazing King’s Troop of the Royal Horse Artillery - the Queen's ceremonial Saluting Battery of superb equestrian soldiers trained to drive a team of six horses that pull the First World War 'thirteen pounder' state saluting guns at high speeds.

NEW HOLLAND LAUNCHES UPGRADED T4 POWERSTAR™ SERIES AT CEREALS 2014: IMPROVED PERFORMANCE AND REDUCED FUEL CONSUMPTION
N
ew Holland launches upgraded T4 PowerStar™ series at Cereals 2014: improved performance and reduced fuel consumption
· Common Rail engine technology with PM Cat for Tier 4B compliance: up to 13% lower fuel consumption and improved response · Enhanced operating comfort: dedicated baler bar New Holland has significantly upgraded the T4 PowerStar™ series, which is the first in Europe to feature PM Cat (Particulate Matter Catalyst) technology for Tier 4B compliance. Showcased for the first time in Europe at Cereals 2014, it also benefits from Common Rail technology for lower fuel consumption and improved operating productivity and efficiency. “The T4.55-65-75 PowerStar range is a hit amongst livestock and small scale farmers.” Stated Luca Mainardi, Head of Tractor and Precision Land Management Product
Management. “Its ease of use and segment leading comfort is perfectly complemented by up to 13% fuel savings and stateof-the-art and exclusive PM Cat technology for Tier 4B compliance.”
Common Rail engine technology with PM Cat for Tier 4B compliance: up to 13% lower fuel consumption and improved engine response The T4 PowerStar series is powered by a 3.4 litre, Common Rail F5C engine with PM Cat technology for Tier 4B compliance. Developed by New Holland’s sister company, FPT Industrial, the PM Cat is located in the exhaust system downstream of the diesel oxidisation catalyst. When particulate matter contained in the exhaust gas passes through it, it is burned off. This filter never blocks due to the high flow of exhaust gas, and does not require regeneration. This system requires no additional efforts from the operator to activate the cleansing process and best of all, the system is absolutely maintenance free, an industry first. To

date, FPT Industrial has produced 500,000 engines with PM Cat technology and the system has been designed to last the life of the product.
New Holland introduced Common Rail engines to agriculture in 2003, and today’s T4.55-65-75 PowerStar series benefits from this technology. Precision fuelling enables enhanced response when the engine is placed under load. Moreover, as exactly the precise quantity of fuel required is injected, fuel savings of up to 13% have been achieved. The flat engine curve between 1900-2100rpm maintains maximum power over a larger working range for improved operational flexibility, especially when working with power hungry implements such as forage wagons. A power-to-weight ratio of 30.4 kg/hp delivers outstanding productivity
while reducing yieldimpacting in-field compaction. The T4 PowerStar’s already industry-leading service intervals have been further extended by 20% to 600 hours, resulting in higher productivity and lower downtime and operating costs. Enhanced operating comfort: dedicated baler bar Operator comfort is of paramount importance to ensure productivity at the end of a long working day, as such the T4 PowerStar’s best-in-class cab has been further enhanced with the addition of an optional dedicated baler bar, which is used to mount in-cab monitors, such as those for balers and wrappers. Its location, to the right of the operator, means that it is in the ideal line of sight when working.

T
he correlation between safety education and training and the production levels necessary to achieve profitability in construction is not difficult to understand. Operators who know how to properly and safely use their equipment are not only much more likely to operate it safely, but they also are able to work faster and more effici tly, leading to better overall performance. Performance leads to profits, and fewer accidents result in fewer expenses and insurance claims. Once profitability is headed in the right direction, you certainly don’t want carelessness to turn things around for the worse. Creating a safety culture can help you win on all fronts—you will be
able to run a more effici t business and decrease your risk of losing revenue. What’s more important is that a safety culture can decrease your employees’ risk of injury on the job. Compact machines— loaders and excavators equipped with attachments—are among the most versatile types of equipment on the market, so they often see heavy use on construction sites and rental yards. As a business owner, you must ensure your equipment operators understand the machines before they run them. Realizing a machine’s capabilities and limitations and exercising appropriate behavior inside and around the machine can help minimize the risk of accidents
and injuries. Most safe operation tips are specific o the type of equipment. However, some guidelines are universal for almost all compact machines, and they should become second nature to your crews and operators. These include: Before operating any type of compact equipment, consult the operation and maintenance manual. Pay close attention to capabilities and load capacities. Always follow instructions on machine safety signs to avoid situations that can cause serious injuries or death. Wear tight-fitting clothing that cannot get caught on controls or in working components of the machine. When working in

some areas, hard hats and eye protection may be necessary. Always face the machine when getting into it. Use grab handles and steps that are provided, and maintain a three-point contact. Use the seat belt, and fasten it snugly. Pay attention to all gauges and warning lights. A machine may need servicing before operation. Never attempt to start the engine or operate controls from outside the machine. Always look to the rear before backing up, and check each side before swinging or turning. Your work area should be clear of bystanders, and no one should ever approach the machine while it is working.

CLEANING
FOCUS ON STEVE BIRCHALL POULTRY HOUSE CLEANING SERVICES LIMITED
I
ndustry developments and pressure from the supply chain are turning the spotlight on more effici t cleaning units as a way to increase performance while reducing antibiotics use. The packers and retailers are demanding, less dependance on the use of antibiotics to control disease so producers need to respond to this. To control disease and maintain production, the industry has to explore and adopt alternative ways to reduce the pathogen risk to birds. Better hygiene practices, based on more effici t cleaning of housing and equipment combined with strict biosecurity is an obvious starting point. It is entirely logical to get buildings as clean as possible before repopulating them to reuce the diease threat before the new birds arrive. New stock are under stress brought about by combination factors including transport, handling, vaccination and
being exposed to new diease threats. The more that can be done to reduce diease threats, the better. There is a real scope to improve the effectiveness of cleaning of all types of poultry housing but the starting point is a change of mind set. Too many producers regard cleaning as a “must do, uninteresting and mundane chore, something that has to be done and the sooner it is done the better, however, nothing could be further than the truth. Cleaning should be seen as an intergral part of a production system which can have a signifi ant impact on performance, costs and profit.
in which pathogens thrive and to expose them to the subsiquent disinfectant. You can not disinfect dirt and unless soiling is removed the pathogens will be protected from the disinfectant. The cleaning phase is crucial but this is not a case of taking an ardent approach with a high pressure power washer. While you can blast away some soiling, you will not remove the fats and proteins which make up much of the dirt on the walls and other surfaces. In addition, the use of high pressure creates an aerosol effect which can actuallly spread the pathogens and make problems worse. To achieive an effecive
clean it is essential to apply a detergent and then to rinse away under low pressure followed by the application of disinfectant. Effective cleaning will help provent the economic loss associated with outbreaks and is considerably cheaper than the cost of treating an outbreak with medicines. Using chemical detergents ensures that soiling is removed before disinfection resulting in a reduction in bacterial levels prior to restocking, giving the new birds the best possible start. Thorough cleaning based on a two stage routine could have a big impact on future profits and turn cleaning from a chore into a profit driver.
An effici t well planned and implemented cleaning procedure can reduce the diease threat to birds leading to better performance. It can also save time and reduce costs. An effective routine comprises of two distinct interrelated stages cleaning and disinfection. Cleaning is essential to remove the environment

ROYAL WELSH SHOW
ROYAL WELSH AGM CELEBRATES SUCCESS
“
Our drive to reduce cost is matched only by our ambition to increase income and create a society that will face future challenges,” said Mr John T Davies in his address to over 120 members at the Annual General Meeting of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society on 20th June. Hosted by this years President Mrs. Rhian Duggan at her Radnorshire home near Crossgates, the 2014 AGM was presented with evidence of success as members looked back to 2013 and forward to this years Royal Welsh Show just four weeks away. Members heard about the strength of the Royal Welsh brand that continues to attract strong sponsorship
and provides a real platform to celebrate the best of Wales, in particular Welsh agriculture. The new management team at Llanelwedd were congratulated on their achievements to increase income and improve effici cy, which increased the surplus from £89,000 in 2012 to £230,076 for 2013. Under the guidance of Chief Executive, Steve Hughson, the new team brings a dimension of youth and professionalism, which compliments the loyal members of staff and volunteers who have served the society well for many years. The Feature County structure was recognised
as one of the main pillars of success with tributes paid to Anglesey, the 2013 feature county, for delivering a new main entrance to the showground entrance, named Porth Môn.
