“Black-grass remains one of the most problematic weeds within UK arable production, and one which requires growers to adopt an integrated management approach incorporating rotational and cultural control measures as well as the use of appropriate chemical solutions at pre- and post-
“The added burden of herbicide resistance means that growers need to use a range of active ingredients and modes of action to provide effective and sustainable control. We are therefore very excited to be able to announce that we are currently developing three new herbicide products, each of which will complement ADAMA’s existing range of

New CPD course offers unique insight into ruminant nutrition
The Agrifood Training Partnership (AFTP) is offering vets and animal health trade professionals (SQPs) an opportunity to study ruminant nutrition.
T
he Agrifood Training Partnership (AFTP) is offering vets and animal health trade professionals (SQPs) an opportunity to study ruminant nutrition at a leading agricultural university. Harper Adams University, in Shropshire, will tutor the ‘Principles of Ruminant Nutrition’ as a continued professional development (CPD) course starting on November 25th. It is one of four modules that together offer the opportunity to gain a valuable postgraduate certificate in ruminant nutrition. The course has been endorsed by both Rumenco Ltd and the XL Vet Group who were part of the validation panel. The panel
congratulated the course team for “creating a unique programme that offered progression opportunities and a flexible mode of study, which considered the needs of both students and employers.” Commenting on the course, AFTP spokeswoman Deborah Kendale said: “The Postgraduate Certificate in Ruminant Nutrition’ has been developed from our existing ‘Diploma in Ruminant Nutrition’ and is designed for technical specialists in the feed industry and vets undertaking CPD. Over the last few years approximately 50 students, including SQPs, vets and farmers, have undertaken the programme, and we expect numbers to be high again this academic year.”
The ‘Principles of Ruminant Nutrition’ module is one of four that address ruminant nutrition and ruminant feeding systems. Feed ingredients, ruminant physiology and digestion, forage production, voluntary food intake and feed and forage analysis are the five content areas covered by the module. It is expected that students who complete the course will be able to identify the nutrients contained within animal feeds and explain the structure and function of the ruminant and pre-ruminant digestive tract. During the course students will also evaluate factors influencing grass and forage production, analyse the chemical composition of animal feeds and interpret forage and feedstuff analysis. The course carries 15 credits and will be taught at Harper Adams from November 25th-29th. It will include lectures, tutorials, farm visits and directed reading. Lectures will be used to introduce concepts whilst tutorials and farm visits will demonstrate topics such as forage analysis in practice.

Bumper grass year increases demand for zero grazing equipment
Demand for zero grazing equipment is spiralling in 2019 as UK dairy farmers seek an edge to compete in a challenging milk market.
F
orage machinery specialist, James Seaton of JVS Machinery, says: “Farmers choosing to maximise yield through zero grazing have benefitted from excellent growing conditions in 2019, a sharp contrast to the drought of 2018. We supply Belair zero grazers and this year we have seen a sharp rise in enquiries from farmers looking to change the way their herds are fed.” French manufacturer Belair partnered with JVS Machinery in 2018 to distribute its range of cutting and feeding equipment in the UK. “The machines are favoured by farmers for build quality and longevity. I chose to become a Belair dealer because I use the machines
Jim O’Neil, a Shropshire dairy farmer, invested in Belair machinery to switch to zero grazing in 2018. He says: “l use a Belair Gabare Premium XL to cut grass and bring it to my herd of 480 Holstein-Friesian cows. I bring three and half loads every day to the cows, which takes about two hours. We have 220 acres and zero grazing is the best way to make the most of the land.” for contracting and I know they last. I can’t afford for machines to let me down and Belair machines are a dependable option made of quality components,” says Mr Seaton. Market pressures have forced many dairy farms to expand in order to remain competitive. However, growth without additional grazing land has proved a difficult proposition, leading many farmers to choose zero grazing as a solution. Mr Seaton adds, “Zero grazing offers farmers greater flexibility, especially those with limited grazing capacity close to the milking parlour. However, it is more labour intensive and requires an investment in specialist equipment.”
6 | AgriNews | www.agrinewsmedia.co.uk
Mr O’Neil has seen a rise in milk yield and believes this can be attributed to the quality of the grass he feeds his cows. “We test our grass regularly and at last count it was 27% protein. It is the cheapest form of protein we can create and the best food for the cows.” Conditions this year have helped Mr O’Neil to cut plenty of grass for his herd and he reports a positive experience of Belair machines. “We have the zero grazer and a straw bedder. Both have performed well and when we’ve had the machines serviced JVS has sent a technician or supplied a replacement, so we never miss a day in the field.”
UK livestock auction will raise funds for farmer mental health A ground-breaking farming campaign, orginally launched in Ireland in 2019 wil host its first UK seminar
A
ground-breaking farming campaign, originally launched in Ireland in 2018 to raise money for mental health charities, will host its first UK seminar and auction-based livestock event in Shropshire on Friday 13th September 2019. A mental health conference and workshop, hosted at the Halls Livestock Auction Centre in Shrewsbury, will be followed by an auction of donated calves and breeding hoggets. All the proceeds will go to three charities associated with farming that already carry out tremendous work in the mental health field: Cheshire Agricultural Chaplaincy, the DPJ
Foundation and the Farming Community Network (FCN). “The aim of the initiative is to create awareness around mental health and wellbeing amongst farmers. The campaign highlights the importance of farmers talking to each other, remaining positive and seeking help if required,” explains organiser Peter Hynes. Cases of farm suicide have increased in recent years and charities are trying to break down the walls and reach out to farmers who may need help. The campaign organisers are asking farmers to kindly donate a dairy-bred heifer calf or breeding sheep
hogget. “The sale will have celebrity auctioneers and, thanks to our sponsors Volac, every farmer who donates a calf or hogget will receive either a free bag of Volac Blossom calf milk formula or Volac Lamlac milk powder. We are still accepting entries and would also welcome dairy/beef-cross calves because smaller herds may not have surplus heifers,” says Mr Hynes. Samantha Sampson, from sponsors Volac, adds: “This campaign has seen a superb uptake from the farming community in both Ireland and the UK, which shows how important bringing mental health to the fore is for farmers. We are committed to supporting the livestock farming community, so are delighted to continue our involvement in such an important mental health initiative focused on our industry.” The charity auction is free to attend and is being promoted through social media with the Twitter handle @RearingG and hashtag #RearingToGo. To obtain more information or to donate a calf or hogget, please contact: Peter Hynes on 00 353 87 0644678.

effective harvesting technique, good clamp management and proven additives for tackling not just one but both of these issues,” he adds. According to Dr Richard Kirkland, Global Technical Manager for Volac Wilmar Feed Ingredients, a change in feeding strategy may be needed towards the end of the grazing season to maintain milk production. “High levels of grass rejection in paddocks not grazed tight enough will result in a decrease in forage digestibility. In turn, this can have a negative impact on milk yield and quality,” explains Dr Kirkland. “In all grazing systems, butterfats are also at risk as the oil concentration in grass begins to increase as it comes out of the reproductive (flowering) phase. The result will be a leafier, high oil grass that can trigger a similar rumen response as early-season grass.” To protect milk production from seasonal grass changes, Dr Kirkland recommends buffer feeding with rumenprotected fat supplements specific to the particular needs of the farm to improve digestibility while acting as a dense energy source.

he new Landini 6C Series V-Shift tractors come with load sensing hydraulics and options of 50kph gearing, independent front axle suspension and cab suspension. A new Landini V-Shift tractor that brings all the control, efficiency and driver comfort benefits of a stepless CVT transmission lower down the horsepower scale will make its first appearance in Ireland at the National Ploughing Championships (www.npa.ie) in September.
The Landini 6-145C LS V-Shift is a variant of the popular 6C Series, previously only available with semi-powershift transmissions; the new V-Shift transmission provides ultimate driving ease in the yard with a loader, in the field with an implement or on the road with a trailer, spreader or tanker.
Landini sales director Ben Agar says: “This is a very advanced transmission in terms of its capabilities and the benefits it offers over a powershift but it’s also quite simple and provides a driving experience that operators say is much easier and more comfortable while enabling them to get the most To find your local dealer please visit: out of the machine.” www.landini.agriargouk.co.uk

Looking after your lawn during this soggy UK summer
Is there anyone out there who’s been able to mow their lawn in the last month? Nope, we thought not! you are using an extension lead with an electric mower.

s there anyone out there who’s been able to mow their lawn this month? Nope, we thought not! Where-ever you are in the UK, we’re guessing that your mower hasn’t had much of a run-out yet this summer. The constant downpours may even had left your lawn waterlogged. There are some important ‘dos and don’ts’ for lawn care during prolonged spells of wet weather - here are the main ones. If your lawn is waterlogged - or even if it’s just very wet - avoid walking on it unnecessarily. It will cause more damage. Assist drainage by spiking
your lawn with a garden fork. Where the ground is very saturated, the RHS advises creating deeper holes or slits, which can be filled with free-draining materials such as horticultural sand to help drainage.
If you really must go against all good advice, then there are some steps you can take. Firstly, remove as much of the surface water as possible - dragging a hose across the lawn is one good way of squeezing the moisture out of the grass. Secondly, raise the mowing height to reduce the strain on your mower. For the same reason, empty the box often. And opt for a ‘slowmow’ - this will reduce the load on the mower’s blade.
Your poor mower won’t be The RHS, and indeed every lawn expert in the world ever, very happy, so afterwards, give it a quick hose-down and cautions against mowing wet allow it to dry out. grass. Quick fit disc cultivator boosts drilling flexibility
A new disc cultivator designed for quick coupling with the Venta 1030 pneumatic drill offers significant drilling flexibility
A
new disc cultivator designed for quick coupling with the Venta 1030 pneumatic drill offers significant drilling flexibility as an alternative to the power harrow combination, said KUHN at the Tillage-Live event. The CD 1020, currently available in 3.0 and 3.5 metre formats, has two rows of 400mm diameter notched discs to create a fine seedbed to a shallow working depth in light soil conditions. The unit can be fitted with KUHN’s new Megapacker 590mm diameter roller, or other roller options. Designed to operate in combination at up to 15km/hr, or up to 4ha/ hour in the 3.0 metre format, the CD has the potential for high drilling outputs when conditions allow. The CD can also operate as a stand-alone cultivator. The discs are supported by a single vertical arm, each holding two discs per arm. Together with a good under frame clearance and a notched disc design that creates a self-driving action in plant residues, this allows Southam Agricultural Fields Farm, Station Road Southam, Warwickshire CV47 2DH t: 01926 813 426 www.southamagri.co.uk
the CD to operate effectively in trashy conditions. The disc arms are fitted onto a cross-shaped profile, with polyurethane blocks providing both elasticity – to maintain a consistent working depth – and durability. Side deflectors, fitted on a parallelogram and extending as far as the roller, ensure a level finish between passes. Linkage between the Venta 1030 drill and the tillage tool is via a specially designed roller frame, a patented concept that creates a very compact unit and ensures cultivation and drilling are fully independent functions. This increases the adaptability of the combination unit and allows optimum drilling performance to be maintained in the widest range of conditions. This design also helps facilitate quick interchange of tillage tools, with coupling estimated to take less than 10 minutes. When the Venta 1030 is used in combination with either the CD disc cultivator or HR power harrow, a range of functions including seed rate, working depth, levelling bar position,
central adjustment point, covering harrow, seed rate calibration and seeding depth can all be adjusted from the tractor cab. This allows the disc cultivator or power harrow, and drill settings, to be adjusted quickly and easily to compensate for changing soil conditions. The Venta seed drill features an 1,800 litre seed hopper and uses a fluted metering unit with large splines for larger seeds (wheat, barley, peas, beans, etc.) as well as small splines for smaller seeds such as oilseed rape. Seeding rates can be set between 1 and 430kg/ha. A speed sensing radar ensures precise seeding at up to 15km/hr and it is possible to shut-off every second row for special applications. KUHN’s precision coulter bar, the Seedflex system, takes care of seed placement, with widely offset double discs mounted on a parallelogram to enable fast and accurate seeding. Echo Tools: User Voice, Kevin Prince
Kevin Prince, owner of Kingsman Gardens based in Southport talks to Echo about what he’s looking for in professional outdoor power tools
K
evin Prince, owner of Kingsman Gardens, a Garden and Grounds Maintenance company based in Southport talks to ECHO about what he’s looking for in professional outdoor power tools and his thoughts on the new ECHO equipment he recently purchased in the latest edition of User Voice. As a grounds and garden maintenance business owner and a user of outdoor power equipment I not only look for good, solid products, I also look for reliability regardless of the brand. I’m fortunate that the ECHO equipment I have purchased over the years has both the build quality and the reliability. We are happy to shout about this as we have an ECHO HCR-171ES hedgetrimmer, an ECHO PB-500 power blower and an SRM-410ES brushcutter all dating back to at least 2009. These machines are still working and have had very little servicing requirements due to them being initially purchased as backup tools, however they have had heavy usage and have outlasted competitor products by at least 5 years. I’m not saying other brands won’t last long; however, I feel the build quality and engines don’t seem to be as effective as they once were. We’re currently in the position of needing new equipment and again we
looked at various brands and weighed up cost, servicing, warranty and performance. After the testing began… ECHO won!
ECHO PB-770. Wow, what can I say?! It’s lightweight, especially for the size and power this machine produces.
We purchased the following products; the CS-620SX, the PB-770 and the PAS-2620ES and here is my User Voice.
We used a competitor blower and the ECHO PB-500. I wasn’t expecting too much extra, boy was I surprised. The power this blower kicks out will rival the strongest winds in autumn time so you can get leaves and even heavy lines in the grass out with ease, I’m not joking! I tried and it picks up the heaviest of dirt in grass. You rarely need to use the full power of this machine due to its ease of use. The backpack itself is lightweight, very soft on the back due to its fantastic straps and the cushioning from the back of the blower. User Voice wise, this has two advantages; it’s more comfortable and you feel very little vibration which is great after prolonged use. You don’t know you’ve even had it on your back, it’s that ergonomic. There’s also less feedback on your arms and body overall compared to a top end handheld blower with low vibration.
The ECHO CS-620SX is a machine I find hard to pair with another. This chainsaw is not only efficient on fuel but its weight when using for long periods, is very manageable. Even better, the performance is unreal. It will shock you the first time you use it. From the power right down to the lack of vibration, I couldn’t recommend this chainsaw enough for any professional out there. To change from a 18″, 24″ and 28″ bar and chain is quick and easy and still packs the punch you need to take down some of the biggest trees and logs required. Solid build quality, low vibration and power when needed without any wait time. Easy filter change and solid caps and seals you’d expect from a professional chainsaw for a professional job. Very impressed with this saw! We also invested in another new backpack blower. The

the line a fresh new look, in a double recognition the same model has also won the Best Design category, recognising the importance to functionality and form of a modern tractor's styling. The winning formula Following its introduction last summer, the new Case IH Maxxum range, in its Multicontroller guise with the new ActiveDrive 8 semipowershift transmission, was awarded the prestigious Machine of the Year title for 2018 at Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany. Now the Maxxum 145 Multicontroller has added to its medal haul by taking the Tractor of the Year 2019 title, which is also judged by a panel of European agricultural magazine editors. Complementing the existing ActiveDrive 4 fourstep semi-powershift and CVXDrive continuouslyvariable transmissions, the key development on the new Maxxum Multicontroller range is the ActiveDrive 8 three-range/ eight-step semipowershift. The transmission
and many other tractor operating functions can be controlled through the Multicontroller armrest and joystick. The TOTY award builds on the Maxxum 145 Multicontroller's previous achievements, including the lowest average specific fuel consumption recorded in the Field Work section of the PowerMix test conducted by Germany's DLG testing station. "We are delighted to have been awarded the 2019 Tractor of the Year accolade for the Maxxum 145 Multicontroller," says Thierry Panadero, Case IH vicepresident for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. "It's a fitting recognition that greater transmission efficiency and ease of control both have parts to play in not only making farming more profitable, but more sustainable too. Helping to make operations easier, more efficient and more environmentally-friendly is a core criteria in the design of our machines, so it's gratifying to see the Maxxum Multicontroller's features recognised in this way."

Fit for the future? The BFREPA conference in October will ask “where next?”
The future of the British free range egg sector will be discussed the fortnight before the UK is set to leave the European Union
O
ver 500 egg producers and industry specialists are expected to attend the 28th British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA) conference and exhibition on 15 October in Birmingham. The 2019 conference, entitled ‘Fit for the Future – British Free Range Eggs, where next?’ will cover a wide range of issues with sessions from speakers including retailers, industry analysts, innovation and technology experts, vets and free range egg producers. “This is a critical time for the British free-range egg sector,” says BFREPA chairman James Baxter. “Producers will get a chance to listen to, and question, the experts over the challenges they will face in the future.” While the sector faces the threat of imports of lowerwelfare, low-cost eggs from across the globe, producers are still looking to the future. Many are keen to hear from retailers on how they intend to support the British free range egg sector and what other opportunities there may be. One such producer is BFREPA Council member John Warne. “With Brexit on the horizon and the threat of potential
zero tariffs for egg imports, I’m keen to hear what retailers are doing to prepare, what consumers want, and what other schemes such as barn production might be available for British egg producers in the future.” Insight on supply contracts, markets, and the latest hot topics, including the future for barn production will be provided by Tesco’s Agricultural Manger for poultry, eggs and feed John Kirkpatrick, while Kantar will provide analysis of markets and retail trends in eggs. The voice of the retailer will also feature on the ‘Question Time’-style panel session in the afternoon, where Rob Hoffman, buying manager for eggs at Morrisons will join Scottish free range egg producer Karen Campbell from Glenrath Farms, and poultry vet Ian Jones, to answer questions on the free range egg supply chain. The 2019 BFREPA conference will also feature 50 industry companies exhibiting their products and services throughout the day. Experts will also highlight new technology and innovative methods to improve individual laying units, egg producing business, and the sector as a whole.
24 | AgriNews | www.agrinewsmedia.co.uk
Novel poultry feed is one such innovation that will be discussed. Insect protein specialist James Wright will discuss the opportunities for the free range egg sector. “Feed derived from insect protein offers the free-range egg sector a real opportunity to increase its sustainability, by moving away from traditional soya-based feed inputs,” says Wright. “But it needs investment and ambition from those who can scale up production and for producers to make the switch. I’m really looking forward to enthusing conference delegates about this exciting opportunity.” The latest innovations and technology for the laying sector will be highlighted by David Speller from the Applied Group, in his conference session. The conference is preceded by a sold out BFREPA Gala Dinner and Awards, in association with The Pullet Hatcheries Association, on the evening of 14 October. Conference tickets are available through the BFREPA website: https://www.bfrepa. co.uk/tickets/

Broiler production: Raising the bar
Broiler production has become so efficient Aviagen has made its elite Ross Club tougher to join. So how did the sector get so good at what it does?
A
viagen has raised the bar for entry to its Ross Club, which recognises the top 1% of broiler growers in the UK. On July 1 the Ross 400 Club became the Ross 420 Club, with the qualifying entry level raised to a European Performance Efficiency Factor (EPEF) of 420 and above. The decision was based on two complimentary factors – the excellent performance of UK broiler growers, combined with a rise in genetic potential of Ross birds. This development reflects a wider picture throughout farming – consistently improving yields, and a growing base of data and expertise in the crops and species we use for food. Genomics is continuing to find ways to maximise the genetic potential of the animals we farm. In short, we are continuing to work out how to produce more for less. This is in all sectors – not just poultry. Last month an encouraging report was published, showing how despite a growing world population, we are beginning to use less land for livestock. Achieving Peak Pasture, from California-based The Breakthrough Institute, describes with FAO data how the amount of pasture
for grazing livestock has globally shrunk for the first time, despite a growing world population and increased demand for food. It is a reflection of continually improving efficiency in food production through genetics and more efficient techniques. Likewise, the poultry sector has seen continual improvements in yield over the decades, both in broilers and layers. The Ross Club increase in entry level corresponds to the recently released 2019 Ross Broiler Performance Objectives. These targets reflect an upgrade in field and genetic performance, which has seen an EPEF rise of five to six points year on year since the objectives were last released in 2014. Big Data is a term used more and more in the industry. The massive amounts of data gathered from farms can be compared with production forecasts and processing targets to achieve greater accuracy. Big Data is allowing people to predict, analyse, and to understand the cause and effect much better than was possible in the past. Club member Patrick Joice of Uphouse Farm in Norfolk says data plays a crucial role in getting good performance.
26 | AgriNews | www.agrinewsmedia.co.uk
“Collecting and analysing our flock data has allowed us to compare our performance to breed standard and also against our past flocks which is invaluable to see where the birds are performing well and perhaps more importantly where they are not. This has allowed us to focus on key stages in their lives analysing data daily, often working with our vet, to understand what is going on and then develop strategies to improve performance.” Stuart Thomson, head of UK sales and technical, expressed his gratitude to all who have reached Club-level performance. “A big thank you goes to all of our Ross Club participants for their outstanding stockmanship and attention to detail that have enabled us to raise the bar on our Club entry level. Theirs is a story of success, as our number has risen from three since the Club’s introduction to more than 400 in 2018.” How birds are selected for the best genetic traits According to Aviagen, improvement in feed efficiency (FCR – feed conversion ratio) is one of the factors considered when it selects for traits in its breeding programme.
Analysis: The fight for a fair future for egg producers
Producers are organising in order to demand better contracts from egg packers
F
ree range egg producers have met to discuss the future of contracts amidst ongoing concerns prices have fallen too low for many farmers to make any money. At a BFREPA meeting on 23 May in Gloucestershire at Adam Henson’s Country Farm Park, around 100 producers heard from BFREPA chairman Robert Gooch and Ed Savory from Birkett’s solicitors, who are working to develop model contracts, designed to protect producers from aggressive terms and conditions. The model contracts are expected to be ready for use in June. Producers said they often lost money on eggs because contracts were weighted in favour of packers’ requirements. “The supermarkets dictate what we’re getting for our eggs and the packer is in the middle and bowing to the power of the supermarkets,” said one producer. “We have to take it because we have a contract that says we have to supply for the whole flock.
flexible. At the moment, we are at the bottom of the pile. We lose money but are still contracted to produce the eggs.” The group discussed the oversupply in the egg market, and the practicality of withdrawing from contracts. Several producers said this wasn’t very practical because there often weren’t alternative buyers for their eggs. “If they’re pushing you too low, what’s the point?” said one producer. “You may as well stop and have a holiday.” Another producer added: “Up in Scotland there is not the choice to go to different packers.” Savory, who is developing model contracts, said “contractually it was achievable” to have agreements that allowed producers to terminate the contract if prices fell too low for them to make any money.
He said there were various options. “We need to have a mechanism that’s easily achievable,” he said. “The Losing money cynic in me says if it’s a baseline price, then the “We have to accept the price packer may drop to that price [at the moment]. There should and say that’s the price. A be a clause that says if it falls minimum profit margin is an below a certain rate we can alternative mechanism.” stop supplying. It needs to be
Disputing grading The group also discussed how the quality of their eggs was determined. Savory said that while examining contracts provided to Birketts, he regularly came across clauses that meant packers informed the producers how many had been graded as seconds with no opportunity to dispute that decision. “I wonder how many producers have to just take it on the chin, and there is no recourse if the packer says they’re not the right quality,” said Savory. “We are seeking to rebalance that a little and there should be the option to say ‘I don’t agree with this grading’ and bring in a process.” The process of egg collection was another point of contention. In some of the contracts the producer’s liability was extended beyond the farm gate. “It’s one example of where there are clauses which often people don’t read and understand,” said Savory. One producer said he had had a pallet of eggs tip over on the back of his packer’s lorry, sending 10,000 eggs smashing to the ground.

Polaris challenges you to ‘Think Outside’ with its new brand
‘Think Outside is reflective of our pioneering approach to advance how our customers work and play outside’
I
n 1954, two brothers and a best friend had a problem to solve. Avid outdoorsmen, the three needed a better way to travel through the deep snow of Northern Minnesota during the long winter months. Combining skilled hands and their collective ingenuity, Edgar and Allan Hetteen and David Johnson built the first Polaris snowmobile, pieced together from parts in their machine shop. polaris rebrand think outside Over the next 65 years, that same ingenuity and adventurous spirit drove Polaris forward, amassing a number of industry firsts and inspired ideas along the way: a snowmobile trip across Alaska, the first automatic ATV, the first ATV with electric fuel injection, and the gamechanging, industry-defining sports-recreational side-byside. We relaunched the Indian Motorcycle brand and created a new product category with Slingshot. Today, enjoyment of the outdoors remains at the core of Polaris. In addition to snow, Polaris is helping people travel across the sand, trail, dirt, road, and water. What started with a single snowmobile has morphed into more than 30 brands across a variety of product lines, along with providing ride and drive experiences
through Polaris Adventures and Indian Motorcycle Rentals. Throughout it all, Polaris has always forged our own path, creating new ways to help people experience the outdoors to the fullest. But after decades of growth and diversification, it was time to clearly define the unifying thread that runs through all our diverse line of products, services and experiences, and tells the story behind the larger Polaris brand. That effort produced a new Polaris brand – one that combines a historic commitment to excellence and getting people outside with a drive to deliver unique experiences and services to new audiences. The new brand features an updated corporate brand purpose, corporate name, logo and emblem, as well as a new tagline – Think Outside. “Our founders built the first snowmobile so they could embark further into the snowcovered woods of northern Minnesota, and we have spent the last 65 years continuing to bring that pioneering approach to everything we do, from creating the first automatic ATV and sportrecreational side-by-side vehicle to introducing RIDE COMMAND and other

technology solutions to assist in the adventure,” said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Scott Wine. “Today, Polaris offers a wide range of products and services designed to help our customers experience ultimate enjoyment outside. Our evolved Polaris branding, Think Outside, articulates the unifying thread that runs across every product, experience and service we offer.” The idea behind Think Outside has always been at the core of what Polaris does, and now it’s inviting more people to embrace that mindset. It’s a rally cry, a call for each of us to experience nature and embrace new challenges. “Think Outside is reflective of our pioneering approach to advance how our customers work and play outside. It highlights our unbreakable bond with the outdoors and our past, current and future focus on ingenuity. Whether you are getting out on the sand, snow, water, trails or road, Polaris is driven to help people find innovative ways to do more outside,” said Wine. “The new brand tells our story in a way that connect us with our current consumers while also inviting new ones into the Polaris community.
