Silver Edition marks Magnum’s 25 years as latest models set new standards.

T

he 1987 introduction of the Magnum series was one of the milestones in Case IH high performance tractor development, and with a design aimed squarely at meeting the needs of a new breed of large farming businesses, Magnum soon became a byword for efficiency, durability, comfort and awesome power. Case IH is now marking Magnum’s 25th anniversary in a special way. Magnum has become the industry standard in conventional high-hp arable tractors, representing innovative technology, high performance, and reliability and the customer satisfaction and trust that those qualities create. While the name remains the same, the technology has advanced with each new generation - and the latest line now includes a limited run of very special Magnums. “Technology can only lead the market long-term if it is high quality, high performance and highly reliable”, says Gabriele Hammerschmid, Marketing Director for Case IH tractors in Europe. “Celebrating 25 years of Magnum tractors in 2012 with a limited silver edition says a great deal about how these qualities have found favour with farmers. “One of the key reasons for this success is that Magnum design and development have always been based on the requirements of modern farming businesses,” suggests Ms Hammerschmid. “Forward-looking farm managers know what to expect from Magnum tractors: higher power to cope with demanding jobs in difficult conditions, excellent fuel efficiency, higher working and road speeds, less maintenance, and the highest possible reliability, as well as excellent driver comfort for fatigue-free operation.” Heavy duty and user-friendly “Case IH recognises that our customers earn money only when they can use their Magnums in the field or for transport work, but when they are doing maintenance those tractors aren’t paying their way. That’s why the latest Magnums are particularly maintenance-friendly and robust. For example, oil changes are necessary only every 600 hours of operation.” In its anniversary year, the Magnum series is available in Europe in five models ranging between 235 and 340 hp (maximum power 273 to 389 hp). The current generation of Magnum tractors is equipped with the very latest SCR engine technology that ensures optimum power output with minimum consumption and emissions. An engine power management system makes an additional 49 hp (max) available on demand, which translates into a power reserve of up to 14 per cent. Also standard is an automatic productivity management system that controls engine speed and gear selection depending on the work situation, for maximum efficiency. To celebrate the 25-year anniversary, Case IH is producing a limited number of Magnum Silver Edition tractors. In Europe, just 25 of the Magnum 340 machines in a special silver livery will be available, making them a distinctive addition to the tractor fleets of lucky purchasers.

GENERAL... The McHale Fusion 3 integrated baler wrapper consists of an 18 roller fixed chamber baler and an integrated vertical wrapping ring.

O

ver the last 10 years, there has been constant pressure on Farmers and Contractors to reduce costs. In response to this McHale developed the McHale Fusion 3 integrated baler wrapper, which combines two traditionally separate jobs; namely baling and bale wrapping and integrates them into a single operation, which can be done by one man and one machine. The Fusion 3 is unique in that it has been specifically designed as a high output Integrated Baler Wrapper. McHale is now recognised as a worldwide leader in the production and development of Integrated Baler Wrappers, its flagship product is the McHale Fusion 3. New Feature on the Fusion 3 over the earlier Fusion 2 include: - New Machine Guards - giving better access and a more modern look - New Platform and Hand Rails - for easier access to net system - Door Lock Tap located outside the panels on the main platform for operator convenience - Improved Net Storage - on main platform - Heavy Duty Watershield pto - with star tubing and heavy duty crosses - 5 Tine bar pick up - giving 25% better ground cleaning and crop transfer - Knife Pressure Display on control box with audible alarm - Knife Position Sensor - to ensure the best chop quality - Double Row Rotor Bearing - reducing service intervals - Tubular Chassis Design - to minimise crop build up - Additional Film Roll Holders - giving more film storage - LED Lights The McHale Fusion 3 is fully automatic and one user-friendly control console in the tractor cab controls the baling and wrapping process. The McHale Fusion 3 Integrated Baler Wrapper is a robust machine, which is simply not a wrapper coupled onto a baler; it has been specifically designed as a high output Integrated Baler Wrapper. The Fusion 3 Integrated Baler Wrapper is also unique in that it has a patented bale transfer. This results in keeping the Fusion 3 short and improving the machine\’s performance and output over a days work. Producing 50-60 wrapped bales an hour the single pass patented McHale bale transfer, increases productivity and reduces operation costs, while increasing profits. Contractors and Farmers all over the world use the Fusion 3 integrated baler wrapper during their silage season in the production of round baled silage. The McHale Fusion 3 integrated baler wrapper has gained a reputation for the production of high density bales and as a result of its highly accurate vertical wrapping ring, the Fusion 3 produces very good quality silage fodder. McHale Fusion 3 integrated baler wrappers can be seen working during the Spring and Summer months in both hemispheres, the main crops baled are grass and lucerne or alfalfa however more progressive contractors and farmers are also baling other crops. BALLOO HIRE CHOOSE KUBOTA MINI-EXCAVATORS TO BOLSTER FLEET.

K

ubota Construction has secured a significant order with leading plant, tool and equipment hire specialist, Balloo Hire. Balloo Hire, which is based in Northern Ireland, has placed an order for 21 of Kubota’s market leading and high performance mini-excavators. The deal encompasses a mixture of units, including Kubota’s K008-3, KX016-4, KX71-3 and U48-4 series. Balloo Hire needed to boost its fleet due to an increase in demand for mini-excavators. Customers using these machines span a wide range of sectors including civil engineering, film and TV production, utilities and facilities management. In spite of the recession, Balloo Hire has been successful in growing its business by offering high quality machinery, supported by excellent customer service. Paul Lavery, managing director at Balloo Hire, explains more. “Through a strong product offering and a commitment to the highest levels of service, we’ve been able to tap into a number of growth markets.” The decision to choose Kubota’s mini-excavators was based on a number of factors. Paul continues: “We offer a range of Kubota machines in our fleet, and have received excellent feedback about them. Build quality, reliability, an excellent warranty package, competitive pricing and a leading brand name that can be trusted were all important components in the decision making process.” The Kubota mini-excavators were purchased by Balloo Hire from Kubota dealer F Rogan Ltd. F Rogan is one of only two Kubota dealers in Northern Ireland, and having won a number of orders in 2011 from Balloo Hire, F Rogan was keen to secure this most recent order. Brian Rea from F Rogan Ltd commented: “We have been working with Balloo Hire for many years now, and we know they – and their customers – are extremely satisfied with the Kubota equipment. “As well as the reliability of Kubota mini-excavators, the anti-theft device that is fitted to all machines as standard increases security, which in turn ensures peace of mind for hire companies that have invested in the equipment.” By ordering through F Rogan Ltd, Balloo Hire is also able to benefit from the onsite servicing that the dealer provides. This ensures machines are not taken out of commission for a lengthy period while they are shipped and serviced. Kubota’s market-leading range of mini-excavators has been designed to offer maximum performance, combined with ease of use, comfort and safety. Investment in new technology ensure the machines can operate at a highly efficient rate without affecting reliability, while maintenance and service programmes are made simple through the easy to access components. GENERAL... Fendt 900 Vario

A

utomatic steering systems have now become standard. One of the directions development is taking in this area is towards cooperating and communicating

systems. Fendt has been carrying out intensive research in this area, which has led to the development of Fendt GuideConnect. In this system, two tractors are connected via satellite navigation and radio to form one unit, where one of the two vehicles is unmanned and performs the same working procedure as the guiding vehicle. Fendt has been awarded a Gold Medal for this ground-breaking innovation.

MORE THAN 22 CONNECTIONS AT THE FRONT AND REAR The Fendt 900 Vario offers more connections than any other tractor in its power class: six electrohydraulic double-acting valves at the rear and two in the front, power beyond, ISOBUS connection and many more. Overall, the 900 Vario has more than 22 connections, which are practicably located both at the front and rear. That guarantees versatile operations and trouble-free connection of all implements – for effective teamwork between the tractor and implement. A PUSH OF A BUTTON FOR BEST QUALITY OF WORK In the valve assignment page in the Varioterminal, operators can assign hydraulic valves to the operating elements as needed. The entire procedure is very user-friendly and is easy to operate with the buttons or touch screen. EVERYTHING IN VIEW, EVEN IN THE DARK The ingenious lighting concept on the 900 Vario doesn’t leave you in the dark. Both the high and low beams provide a one-of-a-kind high level of illumination intensity. The work lights on the 900 Vario can be individually adjusted for up to 360 degrees of illumination. Xenon work lights are available as an option.

Landini Landpower New Cabin

T

he Landini Landpower tractors from GB distributor AgriArgo UK and its nationwide network of sales, service and parts dealers give drivers greater comfort and convenience thanks to a new cabin that is more spacious, has improved all-round visibility and provides more storage compartments for the tools, equipment and documents that drivers invariably have to carry with them these days. The four-post design is similar to that already fitted to the larger 7-Series tractors in the Landini range. Dispensing with the centre posts on either side results in an uninterrupted area of glass to left and right, making it easier to wide implements and the tractor’s general surroundings. There is also a better passenger seat, positioned conventionally to the left of the driver’s air seat, with a moulded bin on the left-hand mudguard providing useful storage space. The latest Landpower models also have electro-hydraulic engagement and modulation of the pto drive clutch – a handier and more durable solution than the dry plate hand lever-operated clutch installed previously. Four Landpower models are available, with outputs of 117hp to 158hp from a 6.7-litre FPT engine using mechanical fuel injection. The ‘no frills’ specification that appeals to many operators includes an 18x18-speed synchro shuttle transmission, and mechanical operation of the hydraulic spool valves and implement linkage

PTO WITH ECONOMY FUNCTION The PTOs can be easily controlled via the multi-function armrest. External controls are available at the front and rear. The PTO speeds (540E/1000 or 1000/1000E) enable work at a lower engine speed, which means lower fuel consumption. The front PTO (1000 rpm) permits operation with a broad range of implements at the front of the tractor.

GENERAL... Kuhn HR 1004 Series Power Harrow

S

eedbed preparation is carried out by Kuhn’s HR 1004 series power harrow (folding), suited to tractors up to 250 hp. With a 1,600 litre rear hopper capacity and the Seedflex coulter bar included – plus the option of additional cultivations on the tractor front linkage - this creates a high output combination that is both accurate and versatile. KUHN’s patented Seedflex coulter bar – launched in recent years and now a feature on many drills in the range - is equipped with double discs offset on the parallelogram. Large-diameter press wheels achieve ground pressure up to 45 kg per unit, thus ensuring uniform seeding depth and good seed-to-soil contact even at high seeding speeds. The new Venta NCR drills include KUHN’s Quantron S facility coupled to an electric cell wheel drive to provide full seeding control. This allows variable seed rate and allows up to 200 field records to be stored in the memory, including the variety seeded, application rate, date of seeding, and so on. The introduction of a hydraulic drive machine to its Axis twin disc spreader range offers farmers the best control yet of broadcast fertiliser applications, according to KUHN Farm Machinery. KUHN extends hydraulic drive spreader range The Axis 40.1 H EMC W, incorporating KUHN’s Coaxial Distribution Adjustment (CDA) technology – a patented feature on all Axis models – has been added to the company’s hydraulic drive spreader range. This machine allows on-the-move adjustment of application rates, integration with GPS, and – through independent control of each disc - on-the-move adjustment of spread patterns according to borders and field shape. The EMC (Electronic Mass Control) facility provides an automatic and instant monitor of fertiliser spread, whilst two high capacity weigh cells provide a constant record of the amount of fertiliser in the hopper. Axis 40.1 H EMC W The standard Axis 40.1 H EMC W machine has a 3,000 litre hopper and is adjustable to spread from 18 metres up to a maximum of 42 metres. It is available ready to operate directly through a tractor’s ISOBUS terminal, or supplied with the CCI 100 control box for use with tractors without an ISOBUS terminal. Other features of note include the electrically driven agitators (which stop automatically when the aperture is closed to minimise any grinding of fertiliser at the hopper base), plus – for GPS-controlled machines – a facility to automatically switch the spreader on and off at the headlands and adjust the working width on short work. The Axis 40.1 H EMC W comes with a ladder as standard. The Axis 40.1 H EMC W ISOBUS (without control box) starts at £20,460 plus VAT. Steel tine conditioner introduced on KUHN mounted mowers KUHN will include the FC 313 D on its stand at LAMMA 2013, emphasising the new offer of either steel finger and nylon flail conditioning systems on its mainstream mounted mower conditioners going forward.

POLARIS FOCUS... A new class of Polaris Ranger, the XP900

Polaris has introduced a new class of Side by Side utility vehicle, the Ranger XP900, and everything about it is new.

T

ake the engine first. The new ProStar 900 is a Twin Cylinder 875cc four-stroke that pumps out 60hp with incredible class-leading torque across the power band. There’s a new engine management system to keep the power smooth at all speeds and all that power lets you easily tow up to a ton or haul 453.6 kg in the cargo box. Access to the engine is simplicity itself, just lift the cargo box to check the oil and top up when needed. This new cargo box, say Polaris, is the best yet with more tie-down points, optional box dividers and an easy gate release. There are also dozens of Polaris Lock and Ride accessories to suit all work and leisure purposes. The all-new chassis gives you by far the smoothest ride in Ranger history, built around a ‘centre spine’ for greater rigidity, with a 12.7 cm longer wheelbase and 2.54 cm more

suspension travel. The suspension itself is Dual Arm with IRS, the wheels are stamped steel and with all that power you can relax knowing you have four- wheel hydraulic disc brakes with dual bore front callipers. What’s also different is it’s a quiet ride with the engine placement behind the seat and below the cargo box. Now what about the ‘office’? A redesigned cockpit fits more people more comfortably, featuring a 3-person split bench seat that also flips up for easy access to under seat storage. If you want a seat that slides forward and back to accommodate adults of all sizes there’s a Limited Edition model that offers just that. The new driver-centred console features a full range of instrumentation and quick readout gauges to keep you full informed as you travel. If you want to add more creature comforts there is the all-new Lock & Ride ‘PRO-FIT cab system which is

also in a class of its own. Full cab installation takes less than five minutes, with windshield, roof, rear panels and doors pre-designed for the frame and all locking tightly to keep out the weather. In all, there are thirty seven new features on the Ranger XP 900, together with a new class of accessories, all of which live up to the Polaris Ranger motto of ‘hardest working, smoothest riding,’ and adding up to a great deal for your money. Well worth a visit to your nearest Polaris dealer to see for yourself. Polaris Britain: 0800 915 6720 www.polaris-britain.com

FARR TO MUCH SNOW TO CLEAR...

W

ith all the heavy snow in recent weeks, this brought most of the country to a standstill. However, shown below is a FARR HS700 UTV fitted with a snow plough and soft cab kit working to clear the snowfall from an industrial estate in Gloucester. Mr Carlson, who recently purchased a FARR HS700 UTV from

Lanes Agriculture comments ‘Well today was the first chance to try the FARR HS700 in extreme conditions, 10” snow. We had to meet a driver down on the A48 with some parcels and it ran perfectly. I was concerned as the snow was very deep, and the road is very steep the whole way.

Coming back up, I stopped at the bottom and dropped it into 4 wheel drive with differential lock; it did not miss a single beat, not one single wheel spin of any kind. I have to tell you I am so impressed, it is fantastic. Thanks for a great piece of fun that is also an incredible vehicle’.
