YORKSHIRE HANDLERS... New sales and service support dealer for McCormick tractors in East Yorkshire... A Yorkshire agricultural engineering business that specialises in supplying sophisticated materials handling machinery is expanding by selling tractors for the first time. Phil and Rhonda Robinson of Yorkshire Handlers are investing in parts stock, service tools, specialist training and extra staff to support the McCormick tractors they now supply. They are also planning a retail shop for accessories, clothing, tools and service consumables at their premises opposite the auction centre at Murton just outside York. "The opportunity to add McCormick tractors to our long-established Merlo telescopic handler franchise couldn't have come at a better time," says Mr Robinson. "After 17 years in business, we felt it was time to expand and diversify the operation. “We’ve discovered that a lot of our handler customers already run McCormick products,” he adds. “But I hope we'll be welcoming new customers to our business." Phil Robinson has a long track record as a no-nonsense operator in the farm machinery sector. He comes from a farming family and worked for various Yorkshire dealers over the years, ending up as a branch manager at Beverley. "Rhonda and I then set up our own business when we were asked to represent Merlo handlers in the area, providing sales, service support and parts for construc-

tion and agricultural users," he recalls. "It’s been very successful and now we'll put the same emphasis on after-sales support for the McCormick products." The parts store that Rhonda Robinson manages has a large value of Merlo stock built up over 17 years and space is being made to add McCormick parts and service consumables for the significant population of tractors already working in the area. Another large parts stock is held by McCormick distributor AgriArgo UK at its Harworth base near Doncaster and emergency spares can be sourced within 24hrs from the European parts centre of manufacturer ARGO Tractors in northern France. "In discussions with AgriArgo, we came away very impressed with the products, the people and the resources behind the McCormick tractor range and were encouraged by what we heard from existing users and other dealers," says Phil Robinson. "It was enough to convince us we were doing the right thing." That impression was reinforced when a local farmer ordered a 92hp McCormick C-Max within 48 hours of the first tractors being delivered to the dealership. Shortly after, a second tractor – a 126hp McCormick MC130 – was purchased from stock by an existing customer. "We've been delighted by the response from farmers interested in the tractors

and the parts and service back-up we can provide," says Rhonda Robinson. Yorkshire Handlers represents the McCormick marque in an area stretching from Scarborough to the Humber and westwards beyond York in an area bounded by existing dealers Agriplus at Stokesley to the north and Moore Farm Services at Harworth to the south. Ray Spinks, general manager and sales director of AgriArgo UK says of Yorkshire Handlers’ appointment: "I'm very conscious that we've had a period of instability in our McCor-

mick representation in this area over recent years. That's why we’re delighted to team up with a business that has an established track record for service support and a long-term commitment to making a success of this move into tractor sales." Having only supplied telescopic handlers before, Mr Robinson acknowledges that he and his team are on a steep learning curve: "At the moment, I daresay existing McCormick users could tell me more about the tractors than I could tell them," he jokes. "But we're determined to get up to speed as soon as possible."

CLAAS...

Claas launch new Quadrant 3300 Roto cut (RC) version...

Following the launch of the QUADRANT 3300 ROTO FEED (RF) big square baler in 2011, CLAAS has further expanded and completed the range with the addition of a new QUADRANT 3300 ROTO CUT (RC) version. In all, this now means that six QUADRANT 3300 variants are now be available, producing a bale measuring 120cm x 90cm.: · QUADRANT 3300 RF and RC with single axle · QUADRANT 3300 RF and RC with tandem axle · QUADRANT 3300 RF and RC with steered tandem axle The CLAAS big square baler product range now includes a total of six models (3400, 3300, 3200, 2200, 2100, 1150) with five bale sizes from 80 x 50 cm to 120 x 100 cm and three different feed and cutting systems, the ROTO FEED (RF), ROTO CUT (RC) and FINE CUT (FC).

Both the QUADRANT 3200 and the QUADRANT 3300 are now fitted with a new wider, 2.35 m pick-up with a POWER FEEDING SYSTEM (PFS) auger and a double roller crop press. The PFS auger has generously-dimensioned flights and conveys the crop deep into the rotor. The crop flow is therefore homogenised and accelerated, which in turn increases the throughput. In combination with the bouble Roller Crop Press, this guarantees a clean crop feed even with very wide swaths and at high speeds.

The clean feed, even under difficult harvest conditions, is guaranteed by the proven JAGUAR pick-up cam track and cam rollers that are now integrated in both balers. The torques of the pick-up cam-type cut-out clutch and the rotor coupling have been raised by 20% and, together with the optimised speed of the PFS and the rotor, ensure increased throughput even under difficult harvest

conditions.

Both machines also incorporate a new spiral rotor with 52 dual tines, which transports the crop more efficiently and quickly to the pre-chamber. The active feed by the rotor has meant that it has also been possible to raise the crop intake on the rotor side of the pick-up. New pivoting cutting unit with drawer An essential new feature on both the QUADRANT 3200 RC / FC and the QUADRANT 3300 RC is the drawer that can be extended on both sides, offering convenient access to the blades for maintenance and blade changes. The blades are arranged in four groups, each of which can be selected easily with

a lever and hydraulically pivoted out. The flexibility provided by the blade groups (RC 25-13-12-6-0 and FC 51-26-13-12-0) enables the balers to be used universally, with high capacity for short straw. Both QUADRANT balers also feature the hydraulically-lowered drop-floor in the cutting chamber, which is lowered automatically if the unit is overloaded. This enables the driver to remove any possible blockages at the baler intake simply by reducing the PTO speed from the driver’s seat, and continue baling without interruption or problems. The driver does not have to get out to perform laborious manual clearance.

CLAAS now offers the widest range of bale dimensions and cutter systems on the market. The most popular is the 120 x 70 cm bale, produced by the QUADRANT 3200, which has also been given some new features. New, higher-performance pick-up

JOHN DEERE...

New John Deere FarmSight dealer services... John Deere’s newly established FarmSight service packages are now available from participating dealers in the UK and Ireland, and will be featured for the first time in public at Cereals 2013 in June. Customers may choose from four flexible packages each with three optional service levels, designed to help optimise their machinery and farm operations. John Deere FarmSight connects equipment, owners, operators, dealers and agricultural consultants using existing AMS GreenStar wireless technology. It aims to enhance productivity and increase business efficiency by sharing information as well as sustainable practices, to help reduce overall input and running costs and therefore improve profitability. The range of integrated business solutions available includes user-friendly monitors, sensors and wireless networks for machinery, and more detailed agronomic information for better operational decision making. The four service packages are: Uptime Remote monitoring and service support designed to maximise machine uptime and ensure preventive maintenance, and enable faster repairs. Performance Monitoring of key performance indicators such as

fuel consumption on individual machines, in order to maximise efficiency and productivity. Logistics Monitoring of multiple machines to increase the efficiency of larger fleets, for example by optimising combine and grain trailer logistics during harvest. Agronomics Help and advice on making more informed business decisions, to improve productivity and profitability. For example, with the Uptime package, machines equipped with JDLink wireless technology are permanently ‘online’ and can be monitored remotely via the internet on a computer, tablet or smartphone. With the customer’s permission, the dealer can pro-actively diagnose and optimise machines, help operators to improve their performance, coordinate fleets during harvesting operations, and use field data for better agronomic analysis and more efficient overall management.

son we noticed the speed reading on a customer’s combine header reel was low. It wasn’t retracting fast enough at the headlands, which was affecting the speed of their harvesting operations, so we sent out a service technician who fixed the reel without the customer even having to call.”

John Deere is the only agricultural equipment manufacturer to design and engineer its own precision farming technology, so all the FarmSight elements are seamlessly integrated to make them easier to use, and customers have the advantage of only having to deal with one supplier.

MERLO Merlo Dynamic Load Control... Merlo is one of the world leaders in telescopic handler design. Control, performance and safety have never been better with the latest award winning Merlo innovative concept - M CDC (Merlo Dynamic Load Control). Merlo has developed an automatic attachment recognition system which identifies the weight and position of the payload, compares both to a virtual ‘load chart’ and calculates the ‘stability index’. As the stability index rises, audio/ visual alarms and a final hydraulic lock act to prevent a forward overturn. The system, which is now standard across the Merlo Turbofarmer range, has won numerous awards proving the company goes beyond EN15000 requirements for safety and control. One of the Merlo’s fitted with MCDC is the popular P40.7CS, with a four tonne lift capacity and seven metre reach the machine also comes standard with cab suspension (CS). Merlo is the only telescopic handler manufacturer offering cab suspension. The CS system combines hydraulic and pneumatic devices to absorb vibrations transmitted through the ground, which maximises overall operator comfort. With many innovations and patents to its name, Merlo proudly claim to manufacture over 90% of the machine in house – proving it’s a true manufacturer rather than an assembler. Merlo UK have over 50 independent dealerships throughout the UK and Ireland.

STIGA...

Stiga Park Range... S

tiga have been in business for over 75 years and, having developed their own patented Multiclip cutting system, there’s not a lot they don’t know about mulching technology. Grass is retained within the deck area to be cut and recut into very small particles which are then blown right down into the turf, out of sight, where micro-organisms speed their decomposition. Recycling clippings in this way returns valuable nutrients to the soil, reducing the need for artificial fertilisers. It’s quicker too with mowing time significantly reduced compared with traditional cut and collect systems as there is no need to stop work in order to dispose of grass clippings. Fuel consumption and emissions are reduced – good for the wallet and planet. Also, thanks to the specially designed blades and the enclosed cover, the noise is directed towards the ground, which produces a lower and more comfortable noise level

than normal collection machines. The Stiga Park range of front mowers are designed to provide efficient, easy to use tools for anyone involved in the care of large green spaces. The machines are extremely easy to use thanks to the front mounted Multiclip cutter deck, a high seating position with exceptional visibility and genuine articulated steering – the rear wheels follow in the tracks of the front wheels precisely, making it easy to cut closely to bushes, trees, hedges and fences. All of the Park models also benefit from having hydrostatic drive transmissions, you simply press on the pedal to accelerate forwards, or press with your heel to reverse. A variety of additional implements are available to be fitted to the machines making them valuable year round workhorses, including snow blowers, rakes and rotary brushes.

NEWS - BROADWOOD INTL... NEWS - WORLD WIDE SIRES... Roll up for lower costs than cylinder mowers A precision cut finish, new transmission, fast forward speeds and operation with one or both wings lifted. That’s the first promise with the new Wessex Proline RMX-560 and RMX-680 roller mowers. The second is that these professional roller mowers, which come in 5.6m and 6.8m widths, will leave a finish equal to a cylinder mower on fine turf, at a fraction of the cost. Wide area mowing offers cost-efficiency and each deck on the triple mower has full width rollers at the front and rear that restrict airflow, where the high speed blades create suction beneath the deck chamber in which the uncut grass is sucked up by the blades, leaving a superb quality cut at high speeds. Above all, says Wessex, servicing and maintenance are easy, reducing costs substantially compared to the equivalent in cylinder mowers. These are virtues that make the Wessex Proline roller mowers a good proposition for anyone with large areas of turf to be mown.

Typically that would mean turf farms, large sporting areas such as polo pitches, public parks, football and cricket grounds and other such amenities. Operation is simplified as no electro-hydraulics are required and there are no electric clutches. The transmission system allows wings to be engaged and disengaged whilst in work, without a clutch mechanism. Wing control is independent, they are operational with one wing lifted, and the folding wings can cut gradients from -30° to +30° with the middle deck remaining on level ground. There is independent float on all decks and the linkage system allows the rear deck to follow the direction of travel, minimising tyre and roller scuffing. All in all, the Wessex roller mowers represent an economic solution to cutting large areas in the minimum time with overall a much lower outlay and less running costs than the traditional cylinder mowers. New ‘Limited Collection’ offers last chance to buy out-of-production bulls

as such stocks of their semen are in dwindling supply.

A selection of key Holstein and coloured breed bulls, which are out of production and therefore in limited supply, are being offered to World Wide Sires customers on a first-come, first-served basis, with stocks predicted to sell out rapidly.

As well as UK-proven Holstein bulls, the Limited Collection also includes a range of genomic bulls, as well as a selection of sought after bulls from the Ayrshire, Jersey and Guernsey breeds. “The Limited Collection contains some highly sought after bulls which are now available at exceptionally competitive prices, but whose stocks are in short supply,” explains Nicky Ford, business support manager for World Wide Sires UK.

World Wide Sires UK has collated the bulls into a ‘Limited Collection’, which offers closing stocks from a number of the UK’s favourite bulls from the past few years at competitive prices. The collection includes popular Holstein bulls such as Atlantic, Sanchez and Scooby-Duu, which are well known in the UK for producing high yielding daughters with fantastic production and conformation traits. But these bulls are no longer in active production, and

“A number of the bulls in the collection are available as sexed or conventional semen. Customers wanting to secure the last few straws of these popular bulls will need to act quickly as we expect supplies to sell out rapidly.”

GREAT WALL...

Built to last – Great Wall Steed Pick-Up Now With Six-Year Warranty... Pick-up now features enhanced six-year / 125,000mile warranty Consolidates Steed’s position as UK’s most affordable 4x4 double-cab pick up Extended warranty on new Steeds bought before June 30th 2013 Two special editions recently launched – Steed Chrome and Steed Tracker Already the UK’s most affordable 4x4 double-cab pick up, the Great Wall Steed is currently the only vehicle of its kind to be offered with a six year / 125,000-mile warranty, following the introduction of a new offer* from the Chinese brand. The extended six-year warranty comprises the 3 year/60,000 mile manufacturer warranty plus a further 3 year/125,000 mile powertrain extended warranty provided by Great Motor Distributors (UK) Limited. The six year warranty is available on all Steeds purchased between now and June 30, 2013.

commitment to offer fantastic value and guaranteed quality to businesses and consumers in the UK,” said Haydn Davies, marketing director at Great Wall UK. “The Steed has always represented outstanding value for money, with a low purchase price, generous equipment levels and excellent fuel economy for its class, and this extended warranty will further enhance the appeal of our vehicles.” Great Wall’s entry-level Steed S is the most affordable 4x4 double-cab pick up, with a purchase price of just £13,998 (CVOTR). Great Wall’s first offering to the UK market, the Steed S, has since been joined in March by two special edi-

tion models, the Steed Chrome and Steed Tracker, each offering outstanding value for money at £14,998 and generous equipment levels. Features fitted as standard to all Steeds include 16inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, remote central locking, a Thatcham-approved Category 1 alarm, electric front and rear windows, an Alpine CD/radio with USB/MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, air-conditioning, heated fronted seats and a full leather interior. All Steeds feature Great Wall’s 2.0-litre 16-valve

turbocharged diesel powerplant that delivers class-leading fuel economy (30.1 mpg urban; 37.7mpg extra urban; 34.0 mpg combined), as well as a low-range gearbox and an ‘on-demand’ four-wheeldrive system that can be selected by the driver when the terrain becomes challenging. In January, the Steed’s towing capacity was uprated by 500kg to and impressive 2,500kg braked, as well as an unbraked towing capacity of 750kg. A 1,050kg maximum payload makes the Steed ideal for a range of commercial applications, with impressive performance both on- and off-road.

As well as the new six-year / 125,000-mile mechanical warranty, all Great Wall Steeds benefit from a six-year anti-perforation warranty, three-year paint warranty and three-year roadside assistance. “The six-year warranty reaffirms Great Wall’s
