New Holland backs British Food and Farming at the Lord Mayor’s Show.

New Holland is proud to support The Worshipful Company of Farmers alongside the NFU at the 802nd Lord Mayor’s Show, London. New Holland is proud to support The Worshipful Company of Farmers alongside the NFU at the 802nd Lord Mayor’s Show in the City of London on 11th November. Both New Holland and the NFU will highlight the vital role the British agricultural industry plays in the food industry, and celebrate the £109bn annual revenue the sector contributes to the UK’s economy. Each year most of the 110 Livery Companies of the City parade through the streets of the square mile to welcome a new Lord Mayor of London. This year’s entry by the Worshipful Company of Farmers, led by the company’s Master Julian Sayers, will centre on a New Holland T7.225 tractor, one of New Holland’s most advanced and powerful tractors, and a CR8.80 combine, equipped with a 20-foot header, showing full support of the Back British

Farming message. The T7 tractor range is built in New Holland’s Basildon factory, which has been producing British-built tractors for over 50 years. New Holland is a strong supporter of British manufacturing and is keen to showcase the value the farming community as a whole adds to the British economy. Mark Crosby, marketing manager for New Holland UK and Ireland, says: “The Lord Mayor’s Show is a historic, world famous pageant with a long tradition of showcasing the best of British. New Holland is a strong advocate of British manufacturing and our Basildon factory proudly produces British built tractors to export globally. It’s an honour to play a part in the procession and display our support for Britain’s hardworking food and farming industry.” Members of the Worshipful Company of Farmers and the NFU will accompany the New Holland machines in the procession. In addition, there will be

eight young farmers each representing one of the NFU’s English and Welsh regions. Each representative has been chosen for making an outstanding contribution to the agricultural sector and is set to be at the forefront of Britain’s farming future. The procession of some 7,500 participants featuring representatives from various livery companies, as well as the armed forces, will follow a route from the Mansion House through the streets of London to the Royal Courts. New Holland Agriculture’s reputation is built on the success of our customers, cash crop producers, livestock farmers, contractors, vineyards, or groundscare professionals. They can count on the widest offering of innovative products and services: a full line of equipment, from tractors to harvesting, material handling equipment, complemented by tailored financial services from a specialist in agriculture. A highly professional global dealer network and New Holland’s commitment to excellence guarantees the ultimate customer experience for every customer. New McCormick X7.650 Pro Drive delivers six-cylinder power

Demonstration examples of the new six-cylinder McCormick X7 Pro Drive are now available at a number of dealerships so I’m sure operators thinking of making a change will take a close look at the Efficient X7.650 Pro Drive,” says Paul Wade. “It will also be a candidate for operators with the popular MC135 Power6 wanting a more powerful tractor for increased productivity with modern features but limited high-tech electronics.”

Demonstration examples of a new six-cylinder tractor added to the McCormick X7 Pro Drive range are now available at a number of McCormick dealerships for farmers and contractors to try out the newcomer’s combination of six-cylinder power, tough cast chassis and spacious Premiere cabin for size. The McCormick X7.650 Pro Drive extends a range that goes from rated speed outputs of 135hp to 188hp and maxes out at 212hp with Power Plus boost on the top model. The newcomer slots in with 152hp from its 6.7-litre engine at rated speed, climbing to a peak output of 160hp for all operations. It is available with the new Efficient specification introduced for the four-cylinder and smallest six-cylinder models in the current range and also in a Premium version with enhanced features and a wider choice of

performance-orientated options. “We already have the X7.450 Pro Drive four-cylinder tractor with the same peak power and torque as the new model,” notes Paul Wade, product specialist at AgriArgo UK, the McCormick distributor for Great Britain. “But many operators like the characteristics of a sixcylinder tractor, including the added stability for operating heavy mounted implements that comes with the 150mm longer wheelbase and additional 410kg in weight from the cast chassis and bigger engine.” When equipped to the new Efficient specification, the new model will also appeal to operators of MTX and XTX tractors of similar size and power, especially as it represents less of a jump in technology and price than the Premium version. “The MTX150 was always one of our best-selling tractors,

The newcomer’s BetaPower engine, built to McCormick specification by FPT Industrial with a highly fuel-efficient SCR emissions control package, develops 152hp at 2200rpm rated speed. But the power curve rises from that point as revs are pulled down under increasing load to a peak of 160hp at 1900rpm, while maximum torque of 676Nm is reached at just 1500rpm. Operators can exploit these characteristics by shifting up to load the engine for maximum power, knowing that increasing reserves of torque are available to pull the tractor through tough areas of soil when ploughing or cultivating, or to climb an incline with trailed or pto-driven equipment. A four-speed power take-off package is standard, providing ‘power’ and ‘economy’ gearing to suit different applications, plus the opportunity to fit a 1000rpm pto drive with the optional 3500kg front hitch.

Kubota offers enhanced peace of mind and tractor protection

Kubota is offering new and current customers the highest levels of machinery repair cost protection and peace of mind Kubota UK, one of the leading suppliers of agriculture and groundcare machinery solutions, is offering new and current customers the highest levels of machinery repair cost protection and peace of mind through its innovative and enhanced Kubota Care programme. By choosing Kubota Care, customers can rest assured that all major service and maintenance works will be conducted by trained and authorised service engineers from their local Kubota dealer, with only Kubota genuine parts and lubricants utilised, ensuring maximum machinery performance and reliability. Available on all M Series and L Series tractors, the manufacturer supported extended warranty programme ensures Kubota customers can safeguard their tractor against any unforeseen repair costs during the first five years of ownership*. Customers simply decide the service hour usage at the time of purchase, so they only pay for the hours they use. Keith Miller, Service and Training Manager at Kubota UK, said: “Ensuring our machinery performs to the highest levels throughout its lifetime is vitally important and Kubota Care is a great reflection of the belief and confidence we have in the quality and reliability of our products. “In addition to keeping equipment maintained to the highest standard, Kubota Care ensures that the service engineers

trained by Kubota are the individuals who will be carrying out all essential and critical maintenance work. This not only helps to maintain the product, but it also allows the dealer and customer to mutually plan for this work to occur at the most convenient time, allowing for better utilisation of time resource that increases machine uptime and results in greater productivity. Additionally, the interaction created locally enables a more expansive and communicative relationship between all parties involved. Kubota Care customers have the option to part exchange their tractor for another machine from the Kubota M and L Series range at any time whilst still reaping all the benefits of the warranty programme. In addition to the service and maintenance benefits, customers who utilise Kubota Care can also make the most of an enhanced machinery resale value during the five-year term, as Kubota Care is transferable with the tractor and its full-service history. Kubota Care

should be applied for at the time of purchase (within 30 days) and covers repair costs for an additional 36-month period (after the standard one year and conditional two-year warranty options) for five years, or a maximum of 5,000 hours use. A new simplified pricing structure means it is now even simpler to obtain a quote. The programme sets out to allow Kubota owners to operate their tractors with a known budgeted fixed cost throughout the product work cycle and to ensure the highest level of uptime and productivity.

Spaldings: ACREplus range of tillage wearing parts now available

Spaldings is offering a new range of wearing parts for cultivation equipment after being appointed the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland when it came to making soilengaging components.

Spaldings is offering a new range of wearing parts for cultivation equipment after being appointed the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland for the ACREplus range made by the Milson Foundry in New Zealand. The range comprises plain and winged points for subsoilers and cultivators made to accurate patterns to fit existing implements, using a uniquely hard-wearing surface to help minimise running costs and downtime, and maintain quality of work over many acres. Spaldings marketing director, Nigel Whelan, said the company already offered its customers a wide choice of wearing parts solutions. “Earlier this year we introduced the Universal drill coulter points from Dutch Openers and we already offer an extensive range of standard and Durafaced parts

for ploughs and cultivators,” he added. “We also supply Ferobide tungsten tile sets for the ultimate in wear-proofing, and now the ACREplus range of points for cultivators, subsoilers and tine drills provides another cost-effective option, with characteristics that are particularly well suited to soils that are quite abrasive or have a high stone content.” The ACREplus range comes from a leading producer of specialist, high-quality castings supplied to agricultural equipment manufacturers in North America and Europe. Milsom Foundry’s soilengaging parts business is built on a high-chrome iron comprising a “secret recipe” of materials formulated and then heat treated to provide high wear resistance without being brittle. Walter Davis of Milson Foundry explained that the “hardness” of a wear-resistant material was only half the story

“For our ACREplus products, we use special steel that has superior wear resistance, but can still be welded,” he said. “We attach it to the surface of a base material that absorbs impact shocks and this enhances point life by eliminating breakages.” Milson’s special steel is applied on the leading edges of points and wings to help keep their shape and lift characteristics, and tungsten technology is used in the form of relatively small tiles – which helps keep the cost down – brazed into positions where the wear pressure is greatest. “This further increases point life and improves penetration, and the combination of materials makes our products well suited to flinty and other stony soils,” Mr Davis added. The end result is a range of replacement parts that maintain their performance over time and provide a consistent level of quality work at lower cost per acre. As with all products in the Spaldings range of tools, parts, consumables and equipment, the ACREplus products can be purchased online at Spaldings website.

Case IH marks 175th anniversary with launch of first full-track CVT tractor

Case IH marks 175th anniversary with launch of the first full-track CVT tractor and updates to mid-range models New CVXDrive transmission option enhances productivity and efficiency of mid-range Quadtrac models / Eightstep powershift ActiveDrive 8 option now available on Maxxum Multicontroller tractors / Puma range gains front suspension, steering and ISOBUS upgrades The industry’s first articulated tracked tractor with continuously-variable transmission is to be launched at Agritechnica 2017 by Case IH, alongside upgrades to its mid-range Puma and Maxxum tractors, marking a series of significant product introductions in the brand’s 175th year. Founded In 1842, in the US town of Racine, Wisconsin, where the worldwide headquarters of the Case IH agricultural business remain today, the original business of Jerome Case was centred on the design and manufacturing of threshing machines, but by 1886 the JI Case Threshing Machine Company had become the world’s largest producer of steam engines. In 1902, separate developments saw five companies all involved in the production of grain harvesting equipment merge to form the Chicagobased International Harvester Company, which produced its first combine in 1915, the

first Farmall tractor in 1923, and the Axial-Flow combine design in 1977. Case IH was formed in 1985, when the-then parent of JI Case acquired the agricultural division of International Harvester. Eleven years later Case IH launched the Quadtrac, the industry’s first articulated high-hp rubbertracked tractor. “Launching at Agritechnica the industry’s first articulated tracked tractor with a continuously-variable transmission is a fitting way to mark 175 years in the farm equipment business,” says Peter Friis, Case IH commercial marketing director for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. “It’s a reflection on our guiding principles of innovative engineering, efficient power and agronomic design, which create a philosophy that will continue into the future. The enormous transformation that has taken place in agriculture over the past 175 years makes it very exciting to look forward to what might be achieved during the next 175.” The industry’s first CVT in an articulated tracked tractor Continuously-variable transmissions have, until now, never been available in an articulated tracked tractor.

The CVX transmission in the Quadtrac 470, 500 and 540 CVX models brings benefits including ease of use – particularly for inexperienced operators – faster acceleration to field or road speed, reduced operator fatigue, full power availability at low ground speeds for special applications/implements, and full hydraulic flow availability at low ground speeds, for applications such as drilling/planting. The result is increased productivity with faster cycle times and maximum fuel efficiency. Providing stepless travel from 0-43km/h, and 0-17km/h in reverse, CVX allows the storing of three adjustable target speeds from 0km/h to 43km/h, adjustable via the thumb-wheel and buttons on the Multicontroller. The transmission incorporates a kick-down feature which ensures maximum acceleration, and 40km/h is achieved at just 1,440rpm. The transmission features four mechanical ranges, for maximum efficiency and operator comfort, with automated range-changing, and the first time 100% mechanical power transfer takes place is below 10 km/h, matching heavy draft application requirements.

New incentive for farmers considering free range egg production

New incentive for farmers considering diversifying into free range egg production

The UK’s major retailers’ decision to only source noncage eggs from 2025 should be the incentive farmers need to diversify into free range egg production, according to rural surveyors Roger Parry & Partners. Statistics from the British Free Range Egg Producers Association (BFREPA) show that the free range egg sector has grown rapidly to occupy about 60% of the market share of retails egg sales, produced by over 20 million hens. With a population increase and steady growth in market share in the years leading up to 2025 it predicts another growth in sales of free range eggs. BFREPA predicts an additional 1.8million hens will be required to fulfil a 5% increase in demand. Richard Corbett, partner at rural surveyor’s firm Roger Parry &

Partners said: “Over the last five years there has been more and more farms diversifying in this way. Farmers, especially Welsh hill farmers, are worried about the price of sheep and beef. This commitment from UK major retailers should be seen as reassurance to current producers but more importantly, as an incentive for those currently considering applying for planning to move into producing free range eggs on their farm.

to those farmers looking to diversify. “Free range egg production has the advantage of being sustainable in the long term, profitable and compatible with other enterprises. It’s not reliant on subsidy, so it is less exposed to government interference, which increases the appeal as Brexit looms. The Lion standard protects the industry from imports as no supermarket will stock non-Lion (effectively non-UK) egg.”

Consumer demand for the use of British egg products has increased significantly. According to recent research three quarters of UK shoppers say British eggs should always be used in prepared foods.

Richard Corbett concluded: “We are keen to work with farmers to help them fulfil the shortfall in UK-produced eggs. With conservative estimates quoting £58 million in new housing and equipment needed to meet this new demand we need to encourage all those that are currently considering free range egg production to come forward.”

Tom Davies from Lloyds Animal Feeds said there were advantages of free range egg production and why it appeals

Effective Poultry House Cleaning Steve Birchall Poultry House Cleaning Services High pressure powerwashing, disinfectant and cleaners With the poultry industry experiencing more than its fair share of problems over the past 12 months or so no poultry producer can afford to hinder flock performance by allowing a build up of micro organisms. Even low disease levels drag profits back and skimping on the cleaning routine between flocks is false economy, says Lancashire based cleaning specialist Steve Birchall. “There is no opportunity these days to rest buildings between flocks. Turnaround times are tight and it is, therefore, vital that buildings are not only throughly cleaned but disinfected as well, and if there has been a problem

the cleaning and disinfection treatment should take account of it” says Steve, who has been operating a nationwide poultry contract shed cleaning business for over 30 years. His three teams are equipped to carry out whatever cleaning regime producers require and he suggests a good standard routine for anyone who wants the best safeguard. After the litter has been removed, the building and any equipment either retained inside or taken out should be power washed at about 2,500 psi with a combined cleaner/ sanitizer/deodorizer, which should remove some of the 80% of micro organisms at this stage.

“Older buildings are often more difficult to clean than modern ones”, Steve says, “However, if you are going to do the job at all, then it is worth doing properly and you have to take sufficient time, particularly in breeder or laying units where nest boxes and equipment have been in place for 12 months or more. Broiler units with a six or seven day turnaround are less difficult. However, people who prefer to do what is a rather unpleasant job themselves often get rather jaded before it has been done properly. If there are other enterprises on the farm, they have to keep breaking off to do other work.

British ploughing championships pull in the crouds

Ploughing Championships have been hailed a great success by the organisers when crowds flocked to the event The 2017 British National Ploughing Championships have been hailed a great success by the organisers when crowds flocked to the event, held at Bishop’s Lydeard, near Taunton, Somerset on 14th and 15th October. On land loaned by K S Coles and family, this ever popular agricultural event drew in visitors from all over the country who went to see over 260 ploughmen and women taking part in the various competitions and enjoy other agricultural displays on offer. Good weather over the weekend matched the good ploughing conditions for the competitors and all the titles

were hotly contested. Changes had been made to the classes this year, with five ‘plough-off’ finals with the top ten from the first day ploughing in each one. Mick Chappell from Doncaster, South Yorkshire was the winner of the reversible final. Mick, ploughing with his Kubota tractor and Kverneland plough has been runner-up for three years in a row and third twice before that, never quite managing to take the title, but this time he did it in style, with a comfortable win of 28 points ahead of past winner Peter Alderslade from Tyne & Wear. Peter was just one point in front of newcomer, Billy Purkiss from Hockley, Essex, who at 23 years old was crowned the National

Young Farmers’ Champion the previous day. Ashley Boyles from Market Rasen, Lincolnshire won the conventional final for the fourth time ploughing with a Massey Ferguson tractor and Kverneland plough, he had just a 6 point lead ahead of David Chappell from South Yorkshire. Third was Nigel Vickers from Cheshire. Mick Chappell and Ashley Boyles will represent England in the 2018 World Ploughing Contest in Germany next September and Peter Alderslade and Billy Purkiss will plough in the European Reversible Ploughing Championships.

Polaris RZR: From sketch to showroom

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, Polaris changed the off-road world forever with the launch of the RZR 800. It was in 2005 that Project ‘VISTA’ – the code name for the development of the RZR – begun, but in the early days it was undecided whether the SXS vehicle should lean more towards being a utility vehicle like the existing Ranger or whether the company should explore a new avenue and break into a new market – sports and recreational. Greg Brew, Director of Industrial Design, explains: “We were told that it needed to ‘accelerate like a snowmobile’ – which as you can imagine, was difficult to do with a four-stroke engine and there was a lot of going back and forth about what kind of vehicle it should be – utility or sports – we found that customers responded better to the concept of a sporty vehicle.” One thing was certain from the beginning, the new RZR should have ‘Polaris DNA’. “It needed to be driven off what we were doing with our ATV line and make sure it had the same design DNA as our other products. The development process itself was quite easy once it was decided on the direction it would take. It was very different to how we design a product now, as we research a lot and produce hundreds of

sketches before embarking on the design, but with VISTA, we had a few things that we really liked and they hung in there.” Other manufacturers had tried to enter the market place and had hit a number of difficulties – but Polaris, who pride themselves on innovation, believed they were up to the challenge and could succeed where others had failed. “There was the overwhelming feeling that although other manufacturers had experienced problems – Polaris could do it. We knew that there was a way into that big market for us and thought ‘we can do that’ and we did – and we did it well. If you stayed within the boundaries of what people and brands had always done, then you’d never try anything new – so we’re always looking to push innovation.” Developed from the ‘ground up’, it was almost a clean sheet for designers when it came to the RZR, building a new machine around the parts, which would form the base. “We had a number of parts from the ATVs in the range as a basis to work around. We needed to design a new frame around an ATV front drive, wheels and half shafts as well

an ATV transmission, CVT and engine – it was a case of packaging that into the RZR. The back end positions itself – it’s a fixed distance between the crank centre and the input shaft on the transmission as defined by the CVT – and then within a small amount of area you’ve got a fixed location where your CVs can operate with the amount of suspension travel we wanted, so you know that whole back end kind of built itself – then the rest was figuring out how long you wanted it to be and where you wanted to put the occupants.” Bringing Greg onto two of the biggest challenges for the design and development of the first RZR – rider placement and weight distribution. “You had to get it stable enough so that it would pass our stability requirements – a challenge as it was only 50” wide. That was one of the hardest things – trying to make it as short and narrow as possible so that it was trail ready. A rider can counter the roll motion on an ATV but can’t in a RZR so it was tough.” It was a game of inches – or less – to get the rider positioning correct. Everything down to rider’s little toes were considered.

New Can-Am off-road 2018 line-up, an important milestone for enthusiasts

Can-Am launches a complete ATV line-up meeting the new EU regulations Some models equipped with the ABS technology Can-Am launches a complete ATV line-up meeting the new EU regulations Some models equipped with the ABS technology, a major breakthrough in the industry Can-Am enters trail segment with new Maverick Trail side-byside vehicles New technical crawling-specific Can-Am Maverick X3 X rc models A new specialized Can-Am Traxter utility side-by-side vehicle Lausanne, Switzerland, Sept. 26, 2017 – BRP (TSX: DOO) is launching for Europe its Can-Am ATV line-up meeting the new EU regulations. This extensive line-up offers a vast choice for all user profiles, from utility-oriented consumers to recreational or sport users, and it comes with a major breakthrough in the industry: BRP is the first manufacturer to offer ATV models equipped with the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) technology. With this new line-up, the Can-Am brand once again demonstrates its ingenuity and leadership on the market. BRP also unveiled four new 50”-wide Can-Am Maverick Trail side-by-side vehicles at its annual dealer meeting in Dallas, TX. People can now enjoy the Maverick experience while accessing many public trails and tucked-away destinations with ease. With their innovative

design and extreme agility, Maverick Trail vehicles enhance the consumer experience and allow people to explore the wild with confidence. The Maverick Trail vehicle is conceived to bring one of the best trail experiences to people with its bold Can-Am Maverick X3 heritage and its ingenious convenience features. Every feature is purposebuilt to maximize consumer comfort, vehicle stability, and handling – a must for people who are looking for a full day of adventures. Bernard Guy,senior vice president, global product strategy at BRP, says, “The Can-Am Maverick Trail lineup introduces our incredible X3 pedigree to trail exploration. People love riding trails because it’s an adventurous escape into nature to discover new destinations with friends, and these ingenious machines are built to maximize the user experience in every way.” The fun doesn’t stop on the trail, though, as BRP also introduced a new technical crawling-specific model for 2018 – the 172hp Can-Am Maverick X3 X rc TURBO R. Rugged crawling is extremely popular (and growing), and BRP went to the rocks to gain real-world insight from owners before finalizing the design. One critical takeaway for the

best possible user experience was the need for a fully-lockable front differential. In response, the Can-Am team created a technology called SmartLok™*, which is an ingenious fully-lockable on-the-fly front differential with electronicallycontrolled automatic modes. That smart technology enhances the riding experience and amounts to traction in extreme conditions. The Maverick X3 X rc model is specifically designed for maximum maneuverability even at low speeds with a high ground clearance and large, specialized tires. It also comes loaded with features for maximum protection including rock sliders, front and rear suspension protectors, and a front differential guard for enhanced defense against harsh terrain and rocks. On the utility side of the lineup, BRP introduced a new specialty package to its Can-Am Traxter model family. The Traxter X mr HD10 is a mud-ready vehicle that’s built to tackle grimy conditions with ease. It also has a Smart-Lok front differential, and along with other tough and clever elements, is built from the ground up so people can conquer harsh environments. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon special edition arrives in UK

New tongue-twister limited edition version of Jeep’s tough off-roader gets unique tweaks and a £40k plus price tag Jeep has revealed another limited edition off-roader for the UK market in the form of the Wrangler Rubicon Recon – a range topping £40,000 plus version of its utilitarian Wrangler 4x4. The Rubicon Recon was revealed way back in March at the Geneva Motor Show, but Jeep UK has just confirmed its arrival in Britain. It’s not just a cosmetic makeover either – Jeep says that the Wrangler Rubicon Recon boasts additional off-road ability thanks to a string of new components. Jeep has fitted the Wrangler Rubicon Recon with a stronger

front axle, while the differentials are protected by more substantial cast metal covers. On top of the tougher underpinnings the Wrangler Rubicon Recon gets 18-inch aluminium wheels painted with a low-gloss finish, while the dual-top roof is finished in black on both hardtop and soft-top models. Up front is a muscular looking dual-vented bonnet with black and red ‘Rubicon’ decals, and there’s also a black fuel filler cap and spare tyre cover. The car’s trademark ‘Trail Rated’ badges are painted a contrasting red.

In the cabin the red and black theme continues – black leather heated seats gain red contrast stitching, while‘ Rubicon’ logos are also embroidered into them. Red accent netting on the doors and red seatbelts make the Wrangler Rubicon Recon stand out even more. Under the bonnet sits a 3.6-litre V6 developing 280bhp, driving all four wheels through a five-speed automatic gearbox. Both twodoor and longer wheelbase fourdoor versions of the new special edition Wrangler are available, which is priced from £40,050.
