customers throughout the UK. The company first gained a foothold in this country back in the early 1980’s thanks to the activities of the original importer. However, the ball really got rolling in 2005 when Weidemann became part of the Wacker Group – a German manufacturer best known for its range of compaction equipment, which then merged with Austrian compact machinery specialist Neuson in 2008 to become Wacker Neuson Group. This Group recently announced revenue of 991.6M euro for fiscal 2011, an impressive 31% increase on its 2010 results. Since arriving in the UK, Weidemann has always been based in East Anglia where it has been able to establish a strong presence, particularly amongst pig and poultry farmers, thanks to the ability of the smaller machines in the range to gain access to low headroom structures. With a current base near Norwich, plus support
from Wacker Neuson’s UK headquarters in Waltham Cross, the Weidemann operation is run by Paul Gower who has over 20 years’ experience of Weidemann products. He is ably assisted by Steven Webster who is responsible for demonstrations and technical support. In recent years the dealer network has been steadily increased to a current total of 14 outlets across the UK and, although agriculture is still the most important market for the company with a high level of repeat business, there is now growing interest from a variety of new sectors such as recycling, landscaping, builder’s merchants and local authorities. In fact, anywhere requiring a highly manoeuvrable, compact and versatile machine. And, as an added bonus, second hand Weidemann loaders enjoy consistently high residual values thanks to their impressive build quality.

AVANT APPOINTS NEW DEALER FOR STAFFORDSHIRE AND SHROPSHIRE
F
innish compact loader specialist Avant Tecno has announced the appointment of Robert Lee (Plant) as it new dealer covering Staffordshire and Shropshire. Commenting on the appointment, Mr. Lee said: “I am delighted to be able to add the Avant products to the range of compact equipment we already offer from Bobcat and Mustang because they will help enable us to satisfy the requirements of virtually any application.” The first machine sold has been delivered to Shaw Farm near Uttoxeter where Bill Cotton looks after some 150 followers prior to moving them on to his son’s neighbouring dairy farm. The Avant 420 model chosen

for this application replaces a skid steer loader which 73 year old Mr. Cotton was finding increasingly difficult to use. By contrast, he finds the Avant really easy to both get into and operate and, as a bonus, the extra reach provided by its telescopic boom enables him to place silage exactly where it’s needed. In addition, the machine has the power and lift capacity to load large round bales into the straw chopper, a task that could not be achieved with the previous skid steer loader. Avant’s 420 is powered by a reliable Kubota 14 kW (20 hp) engine and features an off-centre boom to provide the driver with an unrestricted view of the job in hand. Weighing in at 980 kg, the machine is equipped as standard with a ROPS safety
frame with a tinted plexiglass roof cover and its hydrostatic drive gives a useful speed range from 0 – 12 km/h. AVANT TECNO Avant Tecno (UK) of Thetford in Norfolk offers a wide choice of sub-1 cu m size loaders – in fact its entire lineup of machines falls within this class. All models across Avant’s 4, 5, 6, and 700 Series feature an articulated chassis which makes the diminutive machines ideal for any applications where space and access are at a premium. They also all sport an hydraulic oil cooler which ensures efficient working when the auxiliary circuit is used at full capacity for extended periods of time. The top-of-the-range 700 Series provides the greatest
levels of speed and lift capacity. The 750 model weighs in at 1720 kg and is powered by a 4-cylinder Kubota diesel engine developing 36 kW (49 hp) and can handle loads of up to 1.4 tonne. This model features an auxiliary hydraulic system providing an oil flow of up to 70 litre/min and has a 2-speed hydrostatic transmission with a top speed of 25 kph. Fitted as standard is a telescopic, self-levelling lift arm with boom float, heated suspension seat, ROPS safety frame with plexiglass canopy and a multifunction joystick control. Avant likes to refer to its machines as highly efficient tool carriers and, to this end, currently offers a choice of over 100 different attachments

CEREALS 2014 WILL DEBUT NEW VARIFEED™ 41-FOOT GRAIN HEADER FOR NEW HOLLAND CR COMBINE HARVESTER
C
ereals 2014 will be the stage for the longawaited UK debut of the new Varifeed™ 41foot grain header for the New Holland CR combine harvester. On display at New Holland’s stand number H-814-8, it’s likely to draw the crowds throughout the show at Chrishall Grange, Nr Duxford in Cambridgeshire. The header width of 41 feet (12.50 metres) was chosen because today many large farms utilise 36-metre tram lines in their fields. With a robust welded frame design, it adds even more capacity to one of the highest-output machines in the world.
8 | AGRINEWS | Issue 31 | May 2014
The adjustment range for the knife in longitudinal direction is 575mm and adjustment is performed electrohydraulically from the cab to suit all harvesting conditions. It is easily adapted to use with optional side knives for harvesting rapeseed. The header is equipped with four wide Autofloat™ sensing pads that enable its height and lateral inclination to adjust automatically. New Holland will also be exhibiting alongside it a range of machinery including the Basildon-built T7 and T6 tractors as well as a selection of hay, forage and material handling equipment. The show will continue the
official year-long celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Basildon Tractor Plant and it will represent another chance to see the special edition Golden Jubilee tractor up close. Dedicated PLM and Aftersales areas will complete the New Holland stand at the show. The brand will be showcasing the advances of Precision Land Management (PLM) which has up to 32 orbiting satellites at its disposal to fix a machine’s location on the farm to guide operations down to a few centimetres. Take, for example, someone without PLM seeding a field with a drill width of four metres
and an overlap of 15-16cm – over 1,000 acres that works out as working an astonishing 40 extra acres. With PLM, however, those small differences in time, expense and effort that mount up are instead squeezed down, making unnecessary labours increasingly a thing of the past. In the Aftersales area the New Holland team will introduce the new Service Plus package. This exciting product offering consists of a full range of aftersales services, competitive and flexible schemes along with customised solutions, made to guarantee the best extended cover option to fit the needs of all customers.

JOHN DEERE’S NEW MID-SPECIFICATION M-SERIES TRAILED SPRAYER RANGE MAKES ITS WORKING DEBUT AT CEREALS 2014, IN THE SPRAYS & SPRAYERS DEMONSTRATION ARENA.
T
o help reduce spraying cost per hectare, the M700 Series sprayers have been specially designed for farms growing up to 750ha of cereals, oilseed rape or row crops. M700 Series sprayers are available as standard versions with 2400, 3200 or 4000-litre tanks, or as ‘i-specification’ machines with 3200 or 4000-litre tank capacities. Equipped with a triple folding 30m boom, these sprayers match 6m seeders or drills. The larger M900 Series sprayers have many of the same features as the top of the range R900i Series trailed machines, including high capacity filling performance using the PowrFill chemical inductor, the same choice of 5200 or 6200-litre tank capacities for maximum productivity, and durable steel booms from 24 to 40m. Both the M700i and M900i sprayers are ISOBUS ready, so the machines can communicate with the tractor and enable ‘intelligent’ John Deere solutions.
10 | AGRINEWS | Issue 31 | May 2014
These include the Tank Fill Calculator, which helps the operator to calculate the correct amount of refill volumes required for each application, BoomTrac automatic boom height and tilt control and FieldDoc documentation software. M900i sprayers also offer a new in-cab nozzle control, allowing the operator to switch between spray nozzles on the move (see separate release). To meet the increasing demand for satellite guidance systems, AutoTrac automatic tractor steering and GPS boom section control are available for use with both i and non-i versions of the M-Series sprayers. A new Implement Display 1100 has also been developed to control the sprayer in conjunction with the multi-function lever; on the non-ISOBUS machines, this can be replaced by a GreenStar 1800 display when using a StarFire receiver and for automatic boom section control. New sprayer nozzles switch on the move
John Deere’s high-specification M900i and R900i Series trailed sprayers will be available in 2014 with a new optional incab nozzle control system. This allows the operator to switch between a choice of two spray nozzles on the move, at the touch of a screen on the tractor’s GreenStar display. The system will be featured for the first time on the John Deere stand at Cereals 2014 in June. The versatile TwinSelect system has been developed and tested in close partnership with the nozzle’s manufacturer Pentair Hypro to meet John Deere’s demanding quality and reliability standards. John Deere is one of the first sprayer manufacturers to offer the system commercially. The TwinSelect nozzle body is a compactly designed unit comprising a four-way turret on one side plus a second outlet on the opposite side, each with their own pneumatic valves, providing five nozzle options altogether. The operator can easily
and quickly switch between two different types or sizes of nozzle to produce different spray characteristics or application rates as required, for both pesticides and fertilisers. Several minutes can be saved when switching between nozzles on a 36m spray boom, compared to doing it manually, and TwinSelect also utilises the sprayer’s existing pressure recirculation system for ease of use in the field. Full protection of the nozzle body and nozzles is provided by incorporating the system into the boom’s steel structure. In practice this means an operator can set out for a day’s spraying equipped with a tailor-made selection of spray nozzles and, if required, a liquid fertiliser dribble bar or cap to suit a range of application and crop requirements, all working from a single sprayline. The TwinSelect system saves time in the field as well as during the rinsing operation, compared to using a twin sprayline.

‘FARMGEM’ SPRAYERS THAT ARE BUILT TO LAST
T
he FarmGEM Company was formed in July 2009 and as they enter their fifth year the growth of the business and machine portfolio has been astounding. This is down to several key factors, fantastic UK dealer support, that the GEM Sprayers brand is still held in a very high regard by many growers and the fact that FarmGEM are producing equally strong and reliable machines and backing that up with a three year construction warranty. The company is headed up by Terry Fixter, Managing Director and Cliff Buck, Sales and marketing Director with several other ex-GEM staff also very much involved, bringing easily over one hundred years of combined crop sprayer experience to the company. The main office and parts stores are based in Southwell, Nottinghamshire with tractor mounted and trailed machines being manufactured in Debrecen, Hungary and self-propelled in Lincolnshire UK. The fact that the machines are manufactured in Europe brings several advantages, the main one being the access to easily deliver their machines into many markets other than the UK and Ireland. They have already appointed dealers and delivered machines into Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia,
and Bulgaria and even have machines working in the Philippines and The Democratic Republic of the Congo. That said the UK and Irish markets remain key and they have been able to establish a comprehensive dealer network throughout to supply and support their sprayers. Although a completely new range of sprayers has been designed and developed they have a clear link to the original Gem Sprayer quality but are compliment with a new generation of booms and chassis’s and tanks for both trailed and mounted ranges, along with modern styling. So the range now comprises of mounted machines with tank capacities from 200 litres to 1900 litres and boom widths from 8m to 26m. The trailed sprayer range boasts three models, the Quartz, Diamond and GEM-Trak which can provide tank capacities from 2500 litres to 6000 litres and boom options from 18 to 30 metres. FarmGEM also offer a JCB Fastrac de-mount sprayer which is still proving to be very popular and to complete the range the Sapphire II self propelled sprayer provides the larger farmer or contractor with capacities up to 6000 litres and 36 metre boom widths. At the LAMMA Show 2013 the most recent additions to the FarmGEM sprayer range were launched. Continued customer
demand for a mounted sprayer with a 24 metre gull wing boom led FarmGEM to invest in developing a new mounted sprayer. The NEW FSE1600 with a 12/20, 21 or 24m gull wing boom along with a new front mounted tank range. Although several manufacturers have stopped manufacturing a mounted sprayer with a gull wing boom and now focus on only a vertical fold boom on their mounted machines. FarmGEM feel this is not the answer for everyone, as many farmers and contractors do not like the more light weight design of the vertical fold boom along with all its wearing fold joints. But prefer the stronger more robust build of a gull wing boom. Also new is the FT 3 point linkage mounted front tank range offer both 1200 litre and 1400 litre tank sizes which have been designed to provide maximum forward visibility. Hydraulically driven transfer/agitation pump, in-cab electronic control, dry tank contents gauge and road lighting are all included in the standard specification. Finally the Quartz trailed sprayer, a lower specification trailed sprayer joins the UK offering. The Quartz was originally designed due to the high demand from Eastern European dealers and customers. The Quartz offers either a 2500 or 3000 litre tank, booms from 18 -24m. Although designed to complement the more highly specified
Tel: Vicky 07780 471481 or Nick 07825 440251| Email: info@agri-news.co.uk
Diamond and GEM-Trak models the Quartz still has plenty features of its own. Including clean water tank and flushing system, chemical induction hopper, clothing locker, 13mm stainless steel spraylines, full electronic control of main on/off, 5 boom sections and pressure adjustment. The Quartz uses the same booms that are fitted to the both Diamond and GEM-Trak. As with the former Gem Sprayer range, high quality and strength remain key. If you wish to discuss any particular features please contact your local dealer or FarmGEM directly on 01636 819911. New Specialist Dealer We are extremely pleased to announce the appointment of another sprayer specialist dealer for the FarmGEM range of crop sprayers. South East Lincolnshire will now be covered by S & K Sprayer Services. The company is based in Alford, Lincolnshire and was formed in 2006 by Simon Kitchen, they provide servicing, repairs and parts for all makes of crop sprayers and have over forty years combined experience within the team. So you can see why S & K Sprayer services are a fantastic addition to the FarmGEM dealer network. Come and see FarmGEM at the S & K Sprayer Services Open day on Friday 6th December at Units 4 & 5 Hardwick Court, Beechings Way, Alford, LN13 9JE.

Effective Poultry House Cleaning
N
o poultry producer can afford to hinder flock performance by allowing a build up or micro organisms. Even low disease levels drag profits back and skimping on the cleaning routine between flocks is false economy, says Lancashire based cleaning specialist Steve Birchall. “There is no opportunity these days to rest buildings between flocks. Turnaround times are tight and it is, therefore, vital that buildings are not only thoroughly cleaned but disinfected as well, and if there has been a health problem the cleaning and disinfection treatment should take account of it” says Steve, who has been operating a nationwide poultry shed cleaning business for over 25 years. His two teams are equipped to carry out whatever cleaning regime producers require and he suggests a good standard routine for anyone who wants the best safeguard. After the litter has been removed,
the building and any equipment either retained inside or taken out should be power washed at about 2,500 psi with a combined cleaner/sanitizer/ deodorizer,
which should remove some 80% of micro organisms at this stage. “Older buildings are often more difficult to clean than more modern one”, Steve says, “however,

if you are going to do the job at all then it is worth doing properly and you have to take sufficient time, particularly in breeder or laying units where nest boxes and equipment have been in place for 12months or more. Broiler units
with a six or seven day turnaround are less difficult. However, people who prefer to do what is a rather unpleasant job themselves often get rather jaded before it has been done properly. If there are other
enterprises on the farm, they have to keep breaking off to soother work. Poultry buildings, whether they are broiler, breeder, layer or turkey units, not only need to look clean, they must be disease free. The standard routine might, in the event of flock health problem be extended to include powerful virucide. All the products used should be biodegradable and safe should there be a run-off into a watercourse. Anyone cleaning poultry units should also have regard for human health as well as that of the birds. When disinfecting and fogging you should wear proper respirators and protective clothing and whether you own a site or are a contractor like myself, you should employees with the proper essential equipment.” Increasing pressure is being put on poultry producers to improve hygiene standards but many simply do not have time to master the techniques. to discuss the work before declining the offer. There was also an incident in Fockbury lane, Dodford between 12 noon and 5pm on Wednesday 12 March when entry was gained to a secure barn and a Suzuki 250cc quad bike worth £1,600 was stolen. At around 3pm a man visited the address and asked the victim if she wanted work doing on her trees, which she declined. He is described as white, aged 35 to 40, 5ft 9ins tall, of stocky build, with wavy thick dark hair, and wearing a black t-shirt. PC Greg Moorman of West Mercia Police said: “We are looking into whether these incidents are linked, and in the meantime are asking residents, particularly those living in rural areas near Bromsgrove and Redditch, to be vigilant and to consider improving the security of outbuildings. “We are also appealing to people to be on their guard if they are approached by anyone cold-calling and offering to do work for them, such as cutting down trees. If work really needs doing, it is best to ask friends, family or neighbours to

Land Rover Stolen In Wythall Car Key Burglary Police are appealing for information about the theft of a £50,000 Land Rover from Wythall. It was taken from the Station Road/Norton Lane area of Wythall between 8.15pm on Wednesday, 12th March, and 8am on Thursday, 13th March. Offenders are believed to have got into the house through a rear door which was unlocked, and taken the keys from off a worktop. They drove off in the black vehicle, registration number BF 62 XFY. Another vehicle belonging to the owner, a silver Audi estate, was searched but not stolen. Detectives are looking into whether the incident is linked to several thefts from vehicles in Wythall overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. There were two incidents at dif-
ferent addresses in Selsdon Close in which a Citroen Picasso was broken into and items stolen (no details) and CDs worth £30 and a bag worth £10 were taken from an insecure Ford Ka. There was also a theft in Innistree Close which was discovered on Thursday but could have happened any time since 3rd March in which a Fiat was broken into and an iPhone worth £60 stolen along with £20 cash. Police believe the owner of the stolen Land Rover may have been followed home earlier in the evening. Detective Constable Cheryl Jones of West Mercia Police said: “Car key burglars often work to order and will target specific vehicles, based on demand and value. “They often follow victims home or drive around residential areas looking for opportunities. Anyone who thinks they are being followed or see any suspicious vehicles, should note the registration number and report it to the police.” Vehicle owners are advised to park overnight in a secure garage if possible.

ollowing its launch four years ago, Duster has been a resounding success. Combined worldwide productions of Dacia- and Renault-branded Dusters have already reached one million vehicles worldwide The millionth Duster was made at Renault’s plant in Curitiba, Brazil, and will be delivered to a customer in the same country Duster is currently marketed in more than 100 countries and made in five factories across the world Not only is Duster one of the driving forces behind the Renault Group’s international growth, but it has also emerged as the best-selling Renault model worldwide. “Duster is a truly global success story,” explains Arnaud Deboeuf, the Renault Group’s Entry Programme Director. “With Renault branding,

it perfectly meets the demands of our international customers and is contributing to Renault’s expansion in emerging markets. At the same time, the Dacia-badged version sold in Europe and our Mediterranean Basin markets has succeeded in attracting a new clientele to the brand thanks to the styling and genuine all-terrain capability it delivers for an affordable price. Duster is definitely a model that is winning us new customers.” A commercial hit The fact that one million Dusters have been sold worldwide in the space of just four years is a perfect illustration of the model’s success. Today, it is available in more than 100 countries, branded either as a Dacia or a Renault. The Dacia-badged version has proved just as popular with customers thanks to the cabin space it delivers for its price, as
well as its all-terrain ability, a feature all the model’s buyers appreciate. With Renault badging, Duster has taken the Group forward in its international markets and is designed to meet the needs of customers, with the existence of a severe cold climate version for Russia, a flex-fuel version for Brazil and a righthand drive version with a specific interior for India. Five factories across the world The millionth Duster was made at Renault’s Curitiba plant in Brazil, but it is currently assembled in five factories: Pitesti (Romania), Curitiba (Brazil), Envigado (Colombia), Moscow (Russia) and Chennai (India). Dacia-badged Dusters have been made at Pitesti, Romania, since 2010 for sale in Europe, Turkey and the Maghreb nations. It has also been made at the same plant with
Renault badging since June 2010, initially for the Middle-East, Egypt and other African markets, then, from 2011, the Gulf region. The Curitiba factory in Brazil has been building Renault-badged Dusters since October 2011 for sale in Brazil and Argentina. The plant in Envigado, Colombia, has assembled Dusters since February 2012 for its customers in Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Peru and Central America. Production of Duster in Moscow, Russia, began in December 2011 for the local market, with Renault badging. The latest factory to join the list was Chennai, India, in 2012, for Duster’s Indian, South African and Indonesian markets as a Renault model, as well as for the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Malta and Ireland branded as a Dacia.
