Why Student-‐Led Conferences? The purpose of Student-‐Led Conferences (SLC) is to provide you with the opportunity to communicate with your parents some of the highlights of what you are learning in school. It provides you the opportunity to share with your parents your educational goals and to show off evidence from your schoolwork that makes you especially proud or that best shows the learning you have experienced this year. It takes time, effort, and open, honest reflection to make a SLC special, and this booklet together with support from your teachers will help to make it all possible.
Your Responsibilities: ü Keep your notebook organized and assessments organized in folders or binders. ü Use the time provided by your teachers to complete the SLC Organizer. ü Follow the guidance offered by your homeroom teacher carefully -‐ they want your SLC to go as well as you hope it will. ü Be prepared to help your parents understand what SLC are. ü On the day before the conference, make sure all of your work is in order. All materials and your SLC Organizer should be placed on your table in your homeroom the day before the event. ü Be prepared to share areas in which you excel and areas in which you see a need for improvement. ü Don’t forget to come to the conference with your parents. ü Use the SLC Organizer to help guide you through your student-‐led conference. Be sure to check off each item as you complete it. ü At the conclusion of your student-‐led conference, ask your parents to complete the Parent Evaluation of Student-‐Led Conferences Form and hand this in at your homeroom before you leave.

This is the first exercise to complete in preparation for your SLC. First, start by thinking about your favourite parts of the first semester… list as many of them as you can remember: Draw a shape around your three most favourite parts …
Next, think about the things you found to be the most challenging in the first semester…
Underline the three most challenging things …
Finally, what are your hopes for the second semester? What ideas do you have to help make these hopes come true?
Circle the one hope you will need the most help with …
