Work Experience Research Assistant at Universiti Malaya, February 2016 - December 2017 • Research Assistant for the research project named Seamless Transportation And Mobility for Inter-generational Society, a grant under the Sustainability Science Research Cluster. The topic of research is on Universal Design And Inclusive Society with the focus on providing accessible built environment for Persons With Disabilities in Malaysia. Universal Design refers to an approach meant to produce buildings, products and environment that are accessible to older people, people without disabilities and people with disabilities. • Produced literature review and writing on Universal Design and Accessible Transportation. • Produced design recommendations for accessible neighbourhood transportation based on built examples, universal design principles and the Malaysia Standard MS1184:2014 - Universal Design and accessibility in the built environment- code of practice (Second Revision). • Designed the layout and graphics for the book titled Accessible Neighbourhood, Design Recommendations for Transportation, Parks and Community Facilities Buildings. • Collected data in the form of photography and conducted access audits. • Prepared materials for seminars in the forms of slides, posters and brochures. • Managed the research grant by preparing various administrative documents such as the bi-annual progress reports, letters and meeting minutes. Part Time Assistant Designer at Zasve@UM Innovations Sdn. Bhd. • Zasve@UM Innovations Sdn. Bhd. is a start up company providing consultation on Universal Design and Accessibility. • Conducted access audits for Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya Building and Pusat Latihan Perindustrian dan Pemulihan Orang Kurang Upaya Bangi. An access audit is an assessment of a building, an environment or a


service against best practice standards to benchmark its accessibility to disabled people. The assessment is made by trained auditors through three methods namely ; (1) Direct investigation based on an access audit checklist that follows the Malaysia Standard MS1184:2014 and complying to the barrier free principles such as accessibility, usability and safety, (2) access simulation as an observer or as a participant using assistive devices such as white canes and wheelchairs, (3) interviews with the facility or building staff, users and visitors. • Produced access audit reports that clarified the accessibility issues found and proposed solutions in the forms of drawings and pictures that are specific to scope and context of the buildings or environment that were being audited. • Designed products patented at MyIPO namely a motorcycle barrier for 5-foot walkway and an accessible bus stop shelter. • Produced schematic design illustration for the renovation and extension of the Johor Area Rehabilitation Organisation Building (JARO). Internship at Unit Perundingan Universiti Malaya. July 2015-August 2015 • Produced schematic design proposal and presentation drawings for the renovation works of Za’aba Memorial Library at Universiti Malaya. • Collected site data and measured drawing of the Za’ba Memorial Library.

Accessible Neighbourhood - Design Recommendations For Transportation, Parks and Community Facilities

A research publication under the topic of Universal Design and Inclusive Society. The book provides explanation on Universal Design as well as recommendations in the form of built examples and illustrations on how to achieve an accessible neighbourhood for Persons With Disabilities.

Access Audit Report for Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MPSJ)

An access audit report provides a detailed apparaisal of accessibility for Persons with Disabilites on a particular building or facility. The report highlighted the accessibility issues and proposed solutions specific to the barriers or issues found during the audit. Front cover of the access audit report.

Renovation and Extension for Johor Area Rehabilitation Organisation Building (JARO)

Illustrations of the schematic proposal for the renovation and extension for JARO. There were three different design schemes that included adding an elevator shaft to make the building fully accessible for Persons with Disabilities.

Product Design : Accessible Bus Stop and Motorcycle Barrier Accessible bus stop shelter with ample space for wheelchair users and walking guiding tactile for visually impaired users. The shelter has a parasolform structure to maximize the transparency of the shelter for safety purposes. Two types of seating are designed. One is for perched seating and another has handrail to assist the elderly getting on and off the seats.

Motorcycle barrier for 5-foot walkway is designed to prevent motorcycles from entering the 5 -foot walkways while allowing access for wheelchairs and other pedestrian.

Visitor Center, Melaka, Malaysia

Dago Pojok Community Clinic, Bandung, Indonesia

Borak//Borak

Past talks by Borak//Borak. Website : https://www.facebook.com/borakborak.org Feminist Disability Theory and its application in architecture, urban planning and geography explained how spaces are designed to be gendered and are providing authority for one gender to exert upon another. Hence, spaces are more usable for one gender or for able bodied people thus enabling them reap the benefits of having such authority through how the spaces are being designed. Therefore, the discussion concluded that spaces must be designed to be more inclusive and more considerate towards discriminated groups of people.

Merdeka and Modernism was a public lecture to provide the context and history for the Modernist buildings in Malaysia that are constructed during the Merdeka period. The session explained and discussed the importance of the buildings as a symbol of political will for the newly formed independent Malaya to its people and the image of the nation at the global stage.
