Just Perfect!

Three Perfect Days is Hemispheres’ most popular feature. We know many of you follow our itineraries to the letter, so we do our best to ensure they’ll help you make the most of United destinations. According to many of our online commenters, it seems we’re doing a good job. In response to our February edition, Isolde writes, “I’m always curious to see what’s recommended to tourists, and this would defi nitely give them a true taste of beautiful Montreal!” Our piece on Sonoma prompted Shana Ray to remark, “There is more to Sonoma than simply wine tasting—it is truly a wonderful place to visit (and live), which you captured here perfectly! Great description of the area.” And in response to our look at Budapest, eddiefadel raved, “I like this article very much. I wish I’d read it before visiting Budapest! Thank you Sarah Horne for great work!” We second the hearty thanks to our globe-trotting writers and photographers for crafting such perfect days.

We also received a nice shout-out from Z Recommends, a popular parenting blog—high praise given how little time parents have to curl up with a magazine like ours, in the air or on land. “United Airlines’ Hemispheres infl ight magazine is put out by Ink Publishing, a team with a track record of printing stories that you might actually want to read,” writes Jeremiah. “For the past several months they’ve been publishing, in addition to the travel and food stories you’d expect to read at 30,000 feet, some quality shortform features with a surprisingly web-savvy perspective.”

CLAIRE BENOIST The usual talent behind our “Artifact” section branched out this month to shoot “Photographic Memory” (page 54), about the reemergance of Polaroid, although her own camera of choice is a Hasselblad. Of shooting still-lifes, she notes, “By playing with light, scale, angles and so on, you can make seemingly ordinary objects really come to life.”

JEBEDIAH REED A contributor to Popular Science, Men’s Journal and Salon.com, the author of this month’s Three Perfect Days (page 86) took his fi rst trip to Switzerland to ski on a glacier when he was 13 years old. “This might sound cheesy,” he says, “but I remember watching the sun rise over the Alps and thinking it was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.”

LAYLA SCHLACK A senior editor at Hemispheres, Schlack, who oversaw our feature on the world’s best shops (“Hunting and Gathering,” page 72), thinks shopping is the ideal way to experience the world. London’s markets are her favorite places to part with her funds, but the boutiques in New York, where she lives, are a close second.

United. #1 in

on-time arrivals

of America’s fi ve largest global carriers in 2009. *

We took the top spot in on-time arrivals of domestic scheduled flights in 2009* among US Airways, Delta, Continental and American. It’s a victory for the people of United who worked together to deliver on behalf of our customers who depend on us.

* According to recently published arrival data in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report, United ranked highest in on-time performance for domestic scheduled fl ights as measured by the U.S. DOT (fl ights arriving within 14 minutes of scheduled arrival time) between January 1 and December 31, 2009, when compared to the largest U.S. global carriers based on available seat miles, enplaned passengers or passenger revenue, which includes Delta (including its Northwest subsidiary), American, Continental and US Airways. © 2010 United Air Lines, Inc.
