On the SP10, between Piacenza and Castel San Giovanni, there are several municipalities sharing the same railways. The area needed another thought about the use of public transportation and the ignored train stations. Utilizing the study and analysis of the area, the goal was the creation of a unified regional strategic plan for the future growth of San Nicolo, Rottofreno, Sarmato, and Castel San Giovanni - focusing on the promotion of sustainable land use and transporation practices, and outlining exemplary demonstrative projects. The creation of this plan is intended to shape these communities - both building and human. After identifying the issues, it helped to produce a strategic plan including 8 policy recommendations. Later to be all applied on San Nicolo masterplan as small scale case study

Rottofreno and Sarmato have less future expansion predicted, but both towns also contain ample free space nearyby to their stations and town centers, which offer ideal locations for future growth to occur.

Castel San Giovanni and San Nicolo both see a significant amount of future expansion, with concentrations of growth both within and outside the 1.5 km radius of the train stations. The presence of vacant spaces within that radius, near to the city centers, offers superior opportunities. Future growth could be much more efficient and sustainable.

Castel San Giovanni

The arrangements of streets and public spaces prioritize private vehicle flow, often at the expense of adequate facilities for soft mobility modes. This creates an environment which demotes active transportation as a viable travel option, and lessons the actual availability of the public transit systems. FORECAST FABRIC

San Nicolo

San Nicolo was chosen as the zoomed in municipality to apply the different policies. Due to the previous analysis, San Nicolo was in an obviously worse situation in terms of public services and conditions of streets. Yet the small city shows a great potential due to its location, which is near to Piacenza The train station should now a have a more regional role, arriving to further distination, shifting the nearer locations to be handled by the bus transit system. Also heavy vehicles traffic is now outside the city. Therefore this allows to create a more pedestrian friendly city center, utilizing the potential of train station centrality.

The center of San Nicolo, re-imagined after shifting the heavy traffic out of the city. PEDESTRIANIZATION OF VIA STAZIONE

Now it is a pedestrian area, only public bus are allowed inside in addition to cars of the residents of this street. A bike lane is starting from the train station as a start of a network in the city.

Cultivate Milano Rogoredo Group Urban Prof. Prof.

Work policies Studio 2018 Alessandro Balducci Maria Antonella Bruzzesi

Utilizing the study and analysis of the area, a conceptual cultivation of the area is envisioned, aligning efforts with the goal of preparing the neighborhood for a new season of urban integration and tilling the degraded conditions to enable a prosperous future environment. The concept is fully realized as both a strategic plan and a sitespecific master plan—acting as an exemplary catalyst for future development potential in the neighborhood. The concept is presented as a direct result of—and is therefore highly integrated with—the identified base problem found in the area: its unguided transition from peripheral, highly industrial space to an integrated, livable, recognizable district of the city of Milan. This transition should be fully accounted for and assisted to be guided toward its full potential—utilizing the many resources and opportunities currently present in the neighborhood— including its residents and users.

prune

cultivation

The strategic plan is composed of three parts: plant, graft, prune. These individual approaches account for the realized policy recommendations, which are offered to allow guided development and growth to occur in the neighborhood, capitalizing on its strengths and creating new conditions which improve its qualities and improve its connection to the central city. These policy recommendations involve numerous different actors, to varying degrees, and have effect on different associated elements of the area. The policy recommendations are augmented by listed action steps which can be adopted by the municipality in anticipation of alignment with the associated policies. Many of the recommendations can also be found exemplified either in the manifested project, or in other case studies briefed at the conclusion of this report—providing insight on how the recommendations may be implemented by the city.

The location is portrayed in isometric view, showing the abandoned railyards within their surroundings— the neighborhood on one side and the railways on the other. Being at the core of the neighborhood, a proposal is offered that shows how this area may be approached and designed on the smaller scale. The removal of some unused, expendable buildings leaves a larger space for potential interventions to take place. The proposal illustrates the result of the superimposition of three different axes. The first is the axis that follows the dynamic direction of the movement of the trains and offers a straight connection to the Rogoredo train station. The second connects the project to the Porto di Mare metro station and leads to a potential future connection to the opposite side of the rails. The third and final axis is newly estabilshed, providing connectivity with the neighborhood, offering its residents a better public realm that enhances the social integration of the area. At the confluence, an iconic building is placed that is composed of more commercial, community, and public activities. Other buildings can be incrementally added, primarily mixed use buildings (offices/residential) as well as other residential buildings and a planned hotel.

4 1

1. different ground divisions (changes in materials and therefore activities) in the public space which diffuses into the adjacent neighbourhood. 2. the ramp leading to the underground parking below the mixed-use office buildings. 3. the public space created at the intersection of the two main axes. 4. the main building and the containers—restored remains of the previous industrial use of the site— surrounding it that serve the area in various uses.

The finalized result of the proposed intervention is seen here within the context of the district, utilizing the strengths of the area to form a new connection between the residential fabric and the transit hub of Rogoredo station. This view gives a hint of the precedent that would be set by taking primary action to spur further effort towards a successful transition in the neighborhood. Utilizing the policies recommended by the strategic plan has the potential to revitalize the area and create a more livable environment for its inhabitants and visitors.

GERMAN EMBASSY Individual Work Bachelor Project 2014 Prof. Thomas Loeffller

The design studio was based on a real open international competition to redesign the exisiting German embassy in Cairo. We had to follow and fulfill a very complex program in a sensitive location in the heart of the city. The design concept started by questioniong the idea of representing a country by building, which evolved into dealing with the embassy as a normal office building in to avoid showing any signs of power, and the form of the building is reflecting that, from the side overlooking the street, it is a strait silent facade on the other hand all of the open spaces and gathering areas and change of form are on the other side. limestone is used in the facade as a local material to match the context of the city.

Longitudinal Section

The initial idea of the facade, as a silent elevation with a pattern not really showing what is happening inside as a factor of privacy and security. To achieve this concept, limestone is used as a very local material in Egypt, in a way to blend in the context, taking advantages of the different colors of the natural stone to achieve this random look of the pattern.

The project aims to re-activate a dimissed area under the ring road in Cairo, the space was used to gather garbage from the surrounding districts. The idea was to reactivate the space as a workshop and school about recyling techniques taking advantage of another dismissed park in front of the ring road as a way of awarness using the recycled materials manufactured in the workshop underneath the ring road, a platform is extended from the park directly to the workshop area as an inviting way to lead the pedastrians over there also providing a way of conncetion to the other side of the road. The project can be considered as a prototype to be implemented under the ring road in several areas to overcome the infrastructure barrier.

NILE WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT Group of 3 then Individual Design Studio 2015 Prof. Hussam Salama

The project is about revitalizing the waterfron of the Manial island as group work forming a strategy, generating a masterplan, and each one takes a zone to develop it, in a pedagogic process of collaborating and coordinating. The redevelopment of the Manial waterfront, is divided into three zones, each zone contains a variety of uses with a specific theme. Zone one acts as a central business district in a central location to reflect the identity of a new concept of downtown, the zone is divided into 6 different plots, and my plot has the entrance and consists of different office buildings with a retail path for shops and a big gathering area with restaurants and services and walkway to the Nile.

Federal Mogul Showroom S,M,L Architecture Studio The task of this project was renovating an abandoned storage area, the client wanted to create a showroom for car accessories with an office for 2 persons. We tried to achieve several spaces using the existing structure of the room, playing with several textures and materials to achieve this industrial rough look, yet pleasant to stay in.

The two sections show how the exsisting concrete structure of this narrows space was used as an element of transition from a space to another, starting from outside with the showroom using recycled timber shelves and steel passing to a small lounge that also leads to the storage area as shown in plan, then to a small kitchenet and a bathroom to finally reach the office of the director and his secretary.
