Cem-Kote Flex ST system
Delivering tomorrow’s technology today
CEM-KOTETM FLEX ST - A SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Cem-Kote Flex ST is highly flexible, polymer modified cement membrane, which can be easily applied by brushing, or using spray equipment for larger application. It is used for waterproofing of water treatment facilities, in new construction, or restoration projects. Cem-Kote Flex ST is ANSI/NSF 61 Standard approved. The key advantages of Cem-Kote Flex ST are its flexibility, excellent adhesion, crack bridging, and easy application on wet, or even water saturated concrete. Since Cem-Kote Flex ST is breathable, it allows substrate moisture to escape, and can be used on both - negative & positive side. Reinforcing FabricTM HD provide spanning & waterproofing of larger, moving cracks. Cem-Kote Flex ST exhibits an excellent ozone resistance when compared with typically used epoxy coatings. It can be exposed to water immersion only after three days of air dry curing, unlike similar products, which may require a minimum 7-10 days to exhibit a sufficient water resistance. It presents many advantages over polymer systems, such as epoxy and polyurethane, often used in protection and waterproofing concrete structures in water treatment facilities.
Cem-Kote Flex ST Advantages CHARACTERISTICS CEM-KOTE FLEX ST
POLYMER COATINGS
Sensitivity to water saturation in concrete
Insensitive
Highly sensitive – will de-bond when applied to moist concrete. The sufficient drying, especially in restoration projects is almost impossible and very expensive
Breathability
Breathable
Non-breathable – may de-bond when water vapour, penetrating from behind concrete wall or slab condenses at the polymer/concrete interface
De-bonding due to interface capillary pressure
Will not de-bond
Will de-bond – this happens randomly, due to capillary pressure at the interface of polymer coating and concrete
De-bonding due to negative side water pressure
Will not de-bond
Will de-bond – this happens also duet to capillary pressure at the polymer/ concrete interface
Less sensitive
Highly sensitive – keeping the proper ration and sufficient, thorough mixing of A and B components is very critical for obtaining performance composition.
Sensitivity to variation in mixing
Very easy and fast
Ease of application Clean-ability of tools
Easy to clean with water Non-toxic
Toxicity
Low to moderate
Cost in place
High
Longevity
Difficult and slow – applying very “sticky” materials slow and difficult Difficult – expensive, toxic, flammable and difficult to discard solvents must be used Some toxic components – curatives could be carcinogenic High Average – Gemite can demonstrate projects in place since 1990, polymer coatings often fail by de-bonding in much shorter time, due to reasons described above
Typical problems (issues) and solutions in application of Cem-Kote Flex ST PROBLEM – ISSUE
SOLUTION
Surface preparation
Minimum high pressure wash, 5000 psi (34.4 MPa) – rotating water stream
Rough eroded surface, or filling bug-holes
Level with Gem-Plast TC – hand trowel or spray and trowel
Cracks and cracks treatment
Cem-Kote Flex ST and Reinforcing Fabric HD
Repair of deteriorated concrete
Gem-Plast TC up to 12 mm, or Fibre-Patch OV
Exposed corroding reinforcing steel
Treat with cement based Fibre-Prime corrosion protective coating
Water penetrating into tank through cracks
Use water plug or injection; active water leak must be stopped for a minimum of three days
Corners treatment
2 in corner cove using Fibre-Patch OV, coated with Cem-Kote Flex ST reinforced with HD fabric
