Where the World Learns English™

Englishlink User’s Guide www.englishlink.com

Welcome! This User’s Guide directs you through your lessons. Each learner has different strengths and weaknesses in the English language, so please do the lessons at your own pace. Sit down to study at a time when you feel motivated and alert. We recommend 1 lesson every other day. What we teach in a 1-hour lesson equals 2-3 hours in a traditional classroom. We want you to do the complete lesson at one time. However, if you stop a lesson in the middle, the video clip will be “bookmarked”. When you login again, you continue from this video.

Getting Started We recommend you use Firefox for our lessons. ( http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ ) To begin, go to www.englishlink.com. Click Student Login.

Use your email address and the password we emailed you, and click Login.

The FIRST TIME you log in, you are asked to change your password. Pick something easy to remember ☺

After you login, you will be on the Getting Started page. This is where you find everything you need!

My Learning History shows a record of your studying. You see the last Lesson you completed, and the next Lesson to do. You also see the Placement Test score, and your suggested Unit in which to begin studying.

The Pick My Unit page is your main index for the Courses. At the top of the page, you see the last Lesson you completed, and the next Lesson to do. Choose the Unit you would like to study and click Start.

If you have questions, please click on the Need Help? page. Click on the topic you need help with.

Placement Test You will see the link to the Placement Test on the Getting Started page. We suggest you do the Placement Test before you begin lessons, so you know the best Unit to for your level. However, you do not have to do the test. If you want to do the test, click on Placement Test.

Read the directions before you start! You need approximately 45 minutes to complete it. When you finish, you will receive an email with your suggested level. You will NOT receive a mark/percent score, and you cannot see the answers. Click Start Placement Test to begin.

You will see a drop down menu for the Worksheets. It is best if you print them, but you can also open during the lesson when your teacher asks you to if you do not have a printer.

IMPORTANT! To see all the Worksheets – including the Homework Answers – you might have to scroll down (see arrow). Can’t open them? Download ADOBE PDF READER http://get.adobe.com/reader/

When you are ready, click Clip 1. You will now see your teacher.

Can’t see the video? Download Flash http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

IMPORTANT! At the end of the Lesson you must click either the grey Questions and Answer button or the blue I have finished this lesson button so we can track your progress. This also lets you move to the next Lesson.

Next time you login, you will see the Lesson to do next in the My Learning History section. For example: Intermediate Unit 2, Review Lesson.
