Easy gift-making at the Makerplace
Wintertime is here and if you’re in need of the perfect gift, look no further – a quick trip to the Makerplace can leave your family and friends amazed and wondering not only how you found just the right present, but also where you got it from.
We’ve put together a list of some of the easiest items that can be created at the Makerplace just in time for the holidays. The Makerplace, located at 112 N. Belmont Ave., is home to more than 40 different types of equipment, all available free of charge (there are costs for materials used to produce items on some equipment). From laser cutting to sublimation printing, there are endless ways to handmake the perfect gift for your loved ones.
Find instructions on how to use the equipment mentioned at ahml.info/makerplace/equipment.
Customized Holiday Mug
From a photo of your family pet to someone’s name, just about any design can be printed onto a mug using the DK3 Digital Mug Press.
All you need to create this gift is a mug and an alreadyprepared design created with the Cricut Maker or Silhouette Cameo machine using Cricut Infusible Ink, or a design printed on the Sublimation Printer.
This digital mug press can press images up to 5 inches high, and as close as 1/2 inch from the handle, depending on the mug size.

Custom Pint Glasses
Mugs aren’t the only dishware that can be customized at the Makerplace. Pint glasses can often be the perfect gift, and the Epilog Fusion Edge 24 laser cutter can help you get started.
Almost any black-and-white image can be used to engrave with the Makerplace’s laser cutters. Logos and clip artwork work great and can be created in almost any design software, from Adobe Photoshop to Canva. If engraving photographs, staff recommends high-contrast photos with simple backgrounds.

Custom Cutting Board
Custom Sticker on Holiday Jar
Sometimes a mason jar can do just the trick, and with the Cricut Maker 3 Cutting Machine, you can customize as you want with festive vinyl stickers.
This machine can be used to make designs for shirts, mugs, holiday cards, paper cut-outs and more.
The Cricut Maker 3 Cutting Machine takes images and cuts them into a material of choice. The machine accepts fabrics, leather, paper, balsa wood and other materials up to a maximum of 12 inches in width and 2 feet in length.
Know someone who loves to cook? Create a beautiful, personalized cutting board for the chef in your life using the Dremel LC40 laser cutter.
This laser cutter simplifies the laser cutting process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in every project. The laser cutter can cut wood and acrylic.

The Dremel LC40 has a maximum size of 20-by-12 inches for cutting and 18.4-by-12 inches for engraving. The tallest item that can fit in the machine is 1.25 inches. For more information, stop by and chat with Makerplace staff.

FRIENDS & FOUNDATION
Support the library.
Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation
Annual Appeal
Each fall, the AHML Foundation seeks support for specific projects. A range of projects over the next few years include:
BOOKMOBILE: According to current census data, approximately 50% of Arlington Heights residents live north of Palatine Road or south of Central Road. Providing access to library services in these areas requires bringing those services into their neighborhoods. Bookmobile service is essential to many customers, and your support will ensure its growth in the future.
MAKERPLACE: Additional Foundation-sponsored programs at the Makerplace will continue to add to the high-quality offerings at that location that have proven to be popular with our residents.
KIDS’ WORLD: To add to the upgrades already in place, the library would like to add a family interactive zone that would appeal to a broad range of ages where families can explore and learn together.
As we close out the year, the Foundation is focused on bringing additional education and access to the residents of Arlington Heights. Any amount is greatly appreciated, and acknowledgement of your donation will be listed in an upcoming newsletter and at the library on the Lifetime of Giving screen.
Donations can be mailed to AHML Foundation, 500 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights, IL 60004, or made online at ahmlfoundation.org/donate. To learn more or donate to the Foundation, visit ahmlfoundation.org. You can also read about the Foundation’s most recent capital campaign on Candid’s GuideStar website at guidestar.org/profile/83-2026497
The Arlington Heights Memorial Library Foundation is a not-for-profit, 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization that provides funds to help develop and sustain a world-class library. The Foundation provides support to the Arlington Heights Memorial Library by securing financial and in-kind donations.
