Tween DIY at Home

New projects available monthly starting on June 1, July 6 and August 2.

Pick up supplies at the Kids’ World Desk or request to pick them up at the drive-up window or bookmobile by contacting kids@ahml.info or 847-392-0100. You can also use your own supplies from home and follow our instructional video to complete the project. Grades 4–6.

T-Shirt Embroidery

Tuesday, June 15, 2:30–4 p.m. / Zoom

Bring new life to a plain old T-shirt with custom embroidery! You supply your own T-shirt, we will provide the embroidery floss, needle, hoop and inspiration. Grades 4–6.

Tween Yoga

Fridays, June 18 and August 13, 10–11 a.m. Arlington Heights Historical Museum 110 W. Freemont St.

An Arlington Heights Park District instructor will lead this introductory class covering basic stretches and postures. Bring your own mat, blanket, or towel. Safety precautions in place according to current, local mitigation guidelines. Presented in partnership with Arlington Heights Park District. In the case of inclement weather, this class will be canceled. Grades 4–6.

Books ‘n Bites: Shirley and Jamila Save Their Summer

Tuesday, June 22, 2–3:30 p.m. / Arlington Heights Historical Museum, 110 W. Freemont St.

Pick up your book at the Kids’ World Desk, then meet us at the Museum to discuss Shirley and Jamila Save Their Summer by Gillian Goerz. Bring a blanket to sit on. Safety precautions in place according to current, local mitigation guidelines. In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved online to Zoom. Grades 4–6.

Summer Gummies

Thursday, July 1, 4–5 p.m. / Zoom

Learn how to make a sweet summer treat from the comfort of your own kitchen. Supplies will be provided or you can use your own supplies from home. Registered participants will be contacted to arrange supply pickup. Grades 4–6.

Watercolor Rainbow Forest

Thursday, July 22, 1–2 p.m. / Zoom

Make custom pins to add style to your backpack or jacket using a 3Doodler 3D printing pen. Check out the 3Doodler and all the supplies you’ll need for the project starting July 1, then join us on Zoom on July 22 to do the project together. Registered participants will be contacted to arrange supply pick up. Grades 4–6.

Friday, July 16, 3:30–4:30 p.m. / Zoom Learn to paint colorful rainbow forests in two different styles with art teacher Christine Thornton using fun, easy watercolor techniques. Use your own art supplies from home or pick up a kit at the library. Participants will be contacted to arrange supply pick up. Grades 4–6.

Tween Dice Guild: Crash Pandas

Wednesday, July 28, 2:30–4:30 p.m. / Zoom

Join teens from the Dice Guild Summer Volunteer Squad to play the virtual tabletop role-playing game Crash Pandas. You’ll play together as a team of raccoons mixed up in underground street racing. Sign up for your session at ahml.info. No supplies needed; just bring your creativity and imagination. Grades 4–6.

Stop Motion Animation

Self-Care for Tweens
