Wood Shop Membership

Monday – Thursday, 9 AM-Noon

Certification is needed before purchasing a Wood Shop membership — located in the Senior Center. There are eight complete workstations typically available. EquiPMent includes a Saw Stop Table Saw; 14”Band Saw; variable speed Drill Press; DeWalt 12” Sliding Compound Miter saw; Grizzly 15” Planer; Belt Sander; Disc Sander; 12” Lathe, Delta 6” Jointer; DeWalt Variable Speed 20” Scroll Saw; Router; Rikon MiniLathe; Jet Drum Sander and more! Participants must be 18 years or older to operate Wood Shop equipment.

Do you like to go out to see musicals, theater productions, museum exhibits, concerts, casinos and other recreational destinations, but most importantly, like to have fun? Arlington Classic Tours is for you! Let the Park District do all the planning – all you have to do is register for the tour, check-in on the day of the tour, sit back and relax in a luxury motorcoach while we do the driving and enjoy all the activities that tour has to offer.

• Arlington Classic Tours offers approximately 60 one-day tours plus overnight and extended travel

• Members pay $15 less than non-members on each one-day tour.

Let's celebrate the Fourth of July in an All-American way today with friends, food and fun! This luncheon will be held at Cotillion Banquets in Palatine. Today' s menu includes Bread and Butter, House Salad, an entreé choice of Boneless Breast of Chicken Fresh Basil or Filet of Salmon. Both meals come with duchess potatoes and key west blend vegetables. Dessert is a chocolate parfait with ice cream. Metro Star Orchestra will be our entertainment for the day with their I Love America Show. Overnight Trips

This will be a very fun and enjoyable experience playing Canasta and meeting others. Number of players will be limited so do not delay. Registration will close by August 11. There will be first and second place prizes awarded. Entrance fee is $8 per person. When registering, please indicate who your partner will be for the tournament. Each player must sign up individually. Rules and details will follow after registration. (KH)

The Arlington Classic Tour Club offers overnight and extended motor coach tours throughout the year for your travel and pleasure. DANCE BeMoved Dance

BeMoved is a dance fitness experience designed for adults of all movement abilities. Classes begin with easy-to-follow therapeutic movements that integrate the upper and lower body. This is a contracted class; non-refundable. (KH)

Let’s Get Tapping

Tap your toes to the beat in this new tap class. Learn tap terminology, steps and skills through the progression of this class. Sophia is a Certified Dance Educator and Master Dance Educator. She has been teaching dancing her entire life and teaches the class in a non-competitive manner with low pressure on the dancers. She strives for a fun and energetic class while modifying techniques for every skill and ability level. Tap shoes are highly recommended but closes-toed shoes are acceptable as well. This class is geared toward the beginner, but will be fun for the intermediate level dancer as well. (KH)

Zumba Gold Evening

This class is innovative, fun and exciting and offers a lower intensity workout than traditional Zumba, but also uses a fusion of Latin and international dance music. Zumba Gold combines high energy music with unique moves and combinations and focuses on elements of cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility and balance. This is a contracted class; nonrefundable. No class 7/4. (KH)

Modern Square Dance Drop-in

This group offers modern square dances at the SSD and Plus levels 7:30-10PM on the second, fourth and fifth Fridays of the month from September through May. Dances are held in the Fitness/Dance Room in the Senior Center located at 1801 W. Central Rd. All experienced square dancers are welcome. Toomeys Line Dance Drop-In

Instructor, Sharman Toomey, teaches beginner through intermediate line dances in this Wednesday and Thursday night program which meets Wednesday from 7-9PM and Thursdays from 7-9:30PM. Meet new friends, learn new dances, exercise and have fun. Dennis and Sharman combine country, popular and alternative music with line dancing techniques. WELLNESS CLASSES ChiWalking

ChiWalking is a mindful practice and based on the foundational principles of Tai Chi. The ChiWalking form focuses can be practiced throughout your day to reinforce and make a part of your daily routine. The goal of this program is to improve walking efficiency and prevent injuries. You’ll learn how to improve your posture, neutralize the forces of both gravity and the oncoming road, use your core muscles rather than your feet and lower leg muscles to create movement. ChiWalking can make walking as exercise more fun and enjoyable. Margaret the instructor is the only certified ChiWalking and ChiRunning instructor in Illinois. You must wear comfortable walking closed-toe gym shoes to this class and bring a water bottle and snack. (KH)

Cardio Yoga NEW!

Cardio Yoga combines basic yoga warm-up exercises for the muscles and joints, aerobic/cardio & rhythmic energetic movements, modern dance and various strength/calisthenic exercises. There is also a winddown & relaxation that includes breathing, tai chi elements and energy meditation. This is a contracted class and non-refundable. (KH)

Chair Yoga

Yoga is a wonderful way to relax, restore flexibility, improve breathing and increase energy. This class is designed for the student who does not feel comfortable getting on the floor to exercise on a mat. Learn all the techniques with a few modifications so that you can relax comfortably, seated in a chair. (KH)

Strength & Balance NEW!

This total body workout will help build strength and improve balance through safe and fun exercises. Your heart rate will increase to safe levels and you will learn techniques that you can perform daily on your own! This is a contracted class and non-refundable. (KH)

Tai Chi Moves

Ancient Chinese exercise performed in a slow, relaxed, continuous motion. Learn Qi Gong breathing, stretching and 24 forms of Tai Chi.

This is an introduction class to Tai Chi and improves balance, posture, breathing and relaxes the mid while strengthening the muscles, tendons and joints. No class 7/4. (KH)

Advanced

You must be comfortable with the 24 forms of Tai Chi before enrolling in this intermediate level class. No class 7/4. (KH)

Yoga

Yoga is a wonderful way to relax, restore flexibility, improve breathing and increase energy. The instructor takes you through warming exercises, deep breathing, yoga postures and relaxation techniques in a gentle and non-strenuous manner. Floor routines are included in this class. Mats are provided; feel free to bring your own. (KH)

ARTS & CRAFTS

50 Shades of Colored Pencils

This fun, portable medium gives you the ability to make vivid and rich drawings that can look like paintings. Not only are colored pencils a great art medium, but they can be a wonderful stress buster. No drawing experience necessary. Come and design/color with us! (KH)

Art of Acrylics

Learn to work with and create some beautiful works of art with acrylic paints. First made in the 1950s, acrylic paint uses a synthetic resin to bind pigments. As it can be diluted with water and used thinly or thickly depending on how much water is added to it, it can resemble a watercolor or oil painting or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with other media. If you are sensitive to oil paint fumes but like the look and feel of oils, this is the class for you. Supplies are included. (KH)

Beginning Watercolor Class NEW!

Relax and have fun while experiencing the magic of transparent watercolor painting! You will comfortably learn color mixing, materials and techniques with a wide variety of subject matter. You can do it! All levels are welcome. No class 7/4. (KH)

Summer Open Art Studio NEW!

Fridays, June 9-August 11 | 12:30-3 PM

Gather your supplies and drop-in to the Open Art Studio. Enjoy your time creating and collaborating with like-minded artists. Artists of all level are welcome. An art instructor will be available for any questions or suggestions. You must bring your own supplies. $8 per visit. This is a drop-in program. Please pay in the Park District (Shop 1801) office when you arrive.

Charcoals & Pastels

Enjoy working with these two types of mediums and create your own special artwork under the direction of a highly experienced artist. No experienced needed; all levels welcome. Supplies are included. No class 7/4. (KH)

Mixed Media Class

The perfect class for anyone interested in trying art for the first time. During this class, you’ll get to experience art with different mediums such as paper craft, collages, pencils, paints and more. (KH)

Works of Art

Explore the fine art of portraiture or delve into creating a beautiful landscape, floral or still life. Instructions are provided to help you create stunning works of art. Please bring a clear, good size picture to class that you would like to use to create your masterpiece. (KH)

Sip & Paint NEW!

Join us this evening at Arlington Lakes Golf Course as you channel your inner picasso for a sip & paint. We will be upstairs in the banquet room overseeing the beautiful sights as we have a private instructor lead the class painting an 11X14 canvas. All supplies are included in the fee. No experience needed. A cash bar will be available to enjoy your favorite beverage during the class. (KH)

Crochet: Beginning

Learn the basic crochet stitches and how to read a pattern. You will be working on a simple project right away. Supplies to bring to class include Boyd Brand Size G, H and I hooks, scissors and a blunt metal needle. Yarn is available in class. (KH)

Crocheting is such a relaxing hobby. This drop-in gives you an opportunity to socialize with your crochet friends while working on your personal projects. An instructor will be available for any questions or advise. Supplies are not included. (KH)

Bridge Beginning

Focuses on the Standard American Bridge form, language, the mechanics of bidding and playing structured hands. No prior Bridge experience is necessary. (KH)

Are you a novice Bridge player who would like to earn credit towards becoming a Bridge Life Master?

This game is designed for novice players who want to establish ranking with the American Contract Bridge League and who have 50 points or less. This sanctioned game is $7. Pay at the door for two hours of playing under the supervision of Patricia Braun, Bridge Gold Life Master.

Canasta Beginning

Now is the time to learn a fun, challenging and very popular card game, Canasta! An enjoyable card game that appeals to both men and women, as well as young and mature players. (KH)

Mah Jongg Beginner

CRACK! BAM! DOT! May the jokers be with you! If you want to learn a fun game and meet new people this is the class for you. You'll learn the rules and strategies behind playing the American version of the game. All levels welcome, but the instructor will teach from the beginning. Each card is $15 and is included in the class fee. If you already have a card, let our office know when you register and the fee will be deducted. (KH)

Beginner Wood Working

Do you want to create a beautiful wood project but don’t know all the ins and outs of a Wood Shop? In this class, you will learn how to use the equipment properly while making a wood project. All supplies are included. (KH)

Beginner Woodcarving

Are you determined to learn how to carve objects out of wood? This specialized art form is both fun and relaxing. You will need to bring a carving set to class. A tool supply list will be handed out on the first day of class. Blocks of wood are included in the class fee. (KH)

Carve On

Learn to carve one-of-a-kind relief plaques, simple figures and other special projects through this specialized art form that is both fun and relaxing. A supply list is available at the first class. Register early as space is limited. (KH)

Turn Your Own Pen NEW!

Make yourself a beautiful pen in this one-day workshop. Our lathe instructor will guide you step-by-step through this process. No experience required and all materials are included in the fee. Certification Course -$25

Join us for a quick two-hour certification course in the Wood Shop. During this course you will build a birdhouse as you get certified on the machinery by our Wood Shop coordinator. After this course you can use the Wood Shop when we are open at your convenience. You must supply your own wood. Check in and payment options available at the Park District Office.
