h i e r a r c h y Fall 2016. Core Studio 3. Professor: Ermanno Cirillo I wanted to invert the spatial hierarchy of servant and served spaces in our everyday apartments, for they deserve more credit than they receive. Hence, I aligned the toilets along the exterior perimeter of the apartment, creating open-concept ensuite bathrooms with lush foliage acting as the protective cover.

Fall 2015. Core Studio 1. Professor: Jackson Tan The project brief called for the design of a community center in the eastern heartland of Tampines. The site is surrounded by commercial buildings, a bus interchange, train station and the Central Provident Board (CPF) Building.

I directed my design approach by targeting the overcrowed circulation path linking the transport nodes and retail sectors, along with a lack of direct access to the CPF building. To alleviate potential bottlenecks at the intersection point of the X-shaped circulation routes, I diverged these two routes vertically, creating a 3 metre high ground level flanked by two footpaths, one descending, the other, ascending.

1 party is heard, but the other is unheard. Hierarchy of sound is observed, reflects who has the authority. Only the people upstairs can be heard.
Roof profile has changed to a gentler curve. Increased democratisation of sound as lower ground party can be heard by people upstairs.
Roof profile has is almost linear. Parties on lower ground gain greater agency to be heard.
Trimmed barrel vault / convex roof allows sound to travel out. It gives me the agency to decide on where is the most interesting space to reflect its sound out.
Spring 2016. Core Studio 2. Professor: Yvonne Tan Situated along the intersection of Cairnhill and Orchard Road is an offsite campus for SUTD. Because of the numerous distractions along the site, where shopping malls jostle with one another to draw shoppers in and the leafy trees flanking both sides of Orchard Road, my site was visually isolated from passers-by.
Veil - like roof cascading over sidewalk. 16
Hence, I decided to use sound, or more specifically, the buzz of events, to pique the curiosity of people, and to draw them in to explore the events taking place within the compound. To do so, I did a series of section analysis, where I varied the degree of convexity of the roof overlooking the two main roads, and plotted sound rays and how they would bounce off from the roof onto passers-by below, drawing their curiosity about the space.

n a t i o n Spring 2016. Digital Design and Fabrication. Professor: Stylianos Dritsas Together with: Loi Jun Kai, Mok Jun Wei, Porndee Chua Tasked to create an abstract statement piece using wooden dowels and 3D printed joints, we went along and focused on a quiet oasis in school. Situated behind the library is a reflective space, with the soft sounds of the flowing water and the lush greenery framing that space, which sits in the middle of a courtyard. We wanted to create an installation that would bridge across the water fountains and convey that rhythm of the flowing water. Hence, we decided upon an arched “bridge comprising of linear dowels rotating every 15 degrees in the pool, culminating in a flat plane resting upon the two wooden decks. 22

Spring 2016. Digital Fabrication and Design Professor: Stylianos Dritsas Together With: Goh Wei Hern We were tasked to use Rhino and Grasshopper to explore potential geometric forms which could be then casted in plaster to produce our very own tiles. Triangular extrusions of varying heights resulted in a series of valleys and recesses on the tile’s facade, casting shadows and altering our sense of depth of these tiles. Through the use of the CNC mill, we were able to create the casting told for our tiles. We prototyped various casting methods with different cast components, decided upon using orange zests for a pop of colour, and coffee grounds to give an earthly tone to the white plaster.

May - August 2016 Design & Construction Intern Firm: Pizza Hut Asia Pte Ltd Mentors: Nick David Jr, Monique Elizalde With many of these takeaway kiosks showing signs of wear and tear in the Philippines, Nick entrusted me to come out with a new design for these kiosks. The project was split into two portions: Firstly, a proposal for a new kiosk design, and secondly, a mock up of a refurbished kiosk, where it would reflect the current corporate identity, along with a refreshed colour palette that would give it a more contemporary image. Nick and I communicated via hand sketches, and from there, I used Rhinoceros to model the kiosk, and then, using Photoshop, I created a series of renders that would reflect the colours and texture of its skin. In the case of the refurbished kiosk, I did an artist’s impression on how the same kiosk will look after some minor rectifications, such as a new coat of paint and corporate branding. 38
