A Panel Discussion
10 Tips to Help You Go from Good to Great
Physician support is critical to the success of any philanthropic program—whether you’re a small shop or large organization. This session will draw on the knowledge of industry professionals and physicians as they share best practices and case studies. Learn how they have experienced success with their efforts to engage physicians in the work and support of their foundation. Participants will learn what has worked and more importantly— what hasn’t worked and why in this interactive discussion.
Communication and Expectations
Trying to do it all with little or no staff? Database a mess? Direct mail campaigns running late? Capital campaign looming? No time for donor stewardship? Not only can you get the work done, you can achieve great results. In this session, you will hear and be asked to share stories of small shop challenges and successes, while gaining ideas to use in your own shop. Spreading the News
Third-Party Events and Beyond
But How Do I Fill the Gaps?
Building a robust third-party events portfolio does more than just add revenue to your balance sheet. Not a bad start, but turning volunteer event organizers into your next major gift donors is icing on the cake! You will hear how SickKids Foundation built the portfolio and now stewards over 1,300 event organizers per year, filling the charity’s pipeline with qualified prospects and future donations. In this session, you will learn how to effectively build a third-party event portfolio, steward and migrate your event organizers for bigger opportunities, and leverage social media to upgrade third-party event revenue and increase ROI. Current, applicable examples and best practices will be provided, as well as an inspirational a new outlook on events and how they can be considered a major factor in a charity’s fundraising portfolio.
Your fund development team is dedicated and committed, but to rise to the next level, you need to fill knowledge gaps. Looking for new talent can be expensive, time consuming and ineffective. Investing in your team to ensure complementary skill sets grounded in a team environment can bridge gaps and raise your fund development outcomes. Models for small, medium and large fund shops are explored to help maximize opportunities to reach your organization’s potential. In this session, you will learn to maximize opportunities with your current team, identify gaps in your staffing model and fund development practice and bridge gaps, raise the bar and ensure your team can rise to future challenges in a competitive marketplace.
Effective major gift fundraising, no matter the size of the program or goals, is built around rigor, discipline, powerful relationships and managing the process. The influence in major gifts most often comes from institutional allies; not the development staff. This session will focus on the fundamentals for major gift development in the unique environment of healthcare delivery.

Becoming a Fierce Leader Much of the current discussion in the management zeitgeist on leadership suggests the most impact as CEOs and EDs can be wielded by developing “fierce” leadership skills and abilities. By becoming self-aware of the “wake” you create for staff, volunteers and donors, you can then develop productive leadership behaviors, exhibit authenticity as a leader, and become the fierce leader you were meant to be. This session is focused on those who lead others. Whether you are new to your role as a leader, a seasoned veteran, or someone considering a leadership role, this session will provide concrete ways to identify current leadership style, how to utilize a coach approach to leading others, and what fierce leadership traits are considered needed and wanted in the sector. In this session, you will conduct a personal assessment of your leadership, learn to incorporate an easy five-step process to begin using a coach approach into your leadership style, develop the courage to be fierce, and be introduced to the concept of and the top 10 traits of fierce leaders.
