project: idea competition for 227 ha status: competition entry client: Union of Russian Architects program: concept for urban development date: 2014 Due to the construction of CKAD (Central Ring Road in Moscow Region) availability of Zvenigorod is going to rise significantly. Zvenigorod in future may rightly become the capital of tourism, Moscow’s remote recreational satellite. In fact, this will be a continuation of already established history, because the city has a unique complex of resorts and natural landscapes. The two-stage masterplan proposes the creation of the district “Expanse”, including a city block, Agritourism village, Park and a tourist welcoming center. City block is concentrated around transport hub. Perimeter of a residential neighborhood is composed of 6 floors residential buildings; center of the quarter is given to the park area without cars and with public buildings. Agritourism village is organized as a traditional Russian village. Tourist welcoming center is a hotel, a museum, room for presentations, conferences, workshops and meetings.

project: exhibition status: realized client: ММОМА program: over 300 pieces of magazine’s illustrations, statistic block, 3 video team: form bureau, Interview Russia, ММОМА date: 2014 Exhibition space is divided in two characteristic to Salvador Dali parts “conscious” and “unconscious”. “Unconscious” part presents naturalistic association with the work of Dali: a huge egg, two semi-circular screens with commercials, natural garden. “Conscious” part of the exhibition resembles velvet box with rare artifacts. The presented works reveal the multifaceted genius of Dali, which is not limited only to traditional activities of the artist. Exhibition is complemented by neutral white room with statistics, which shed light on the striking success of an international presence in the world of media, at a time when the art world was strictly separated from the popular media culture.

project: New building for Contemporary Art Center status: Open International Competition client: National Center for Contemporary Art program: Public space 5 650 м², Exhibition 15 200 м², Facilities 3 900 м² team: Alena Lanina, Aleksandr Milov date: 2013 PLATFORM MOSCOW CONTEMPORARY New Center for Contemporary Arts works as a horizontal museum. Horizontal connections allow rare easy relationships between public and art, researchers and archive collections, artists and government. Center represents a museum platform where exhibition halls of various shapes are scattered. On the contrast to the sad gigantic shopping mall, halls work as unusual urban artifacts. Exhibition spaces are not divided on permanent or temporary, providing by such a great array of curatorial strategies. Every hall is unique by its shape, but transformable to the changing and unpredictable needs of contemporary culture. Main pedestrian connection to the Center goes from the park straight to the big ramp equipped with escalators and stairs. Ramp connection liberates entrance to the park, avoiding new road planned nearby.

project: open architectural competition “Museum Cluster” for the concept of transformation of Moscow center within Borovitsky Square, the intersection of Moho vay and Znamianka streets, Vozdvizhenka Street and Krestovozdvizhenskiy Lane. status: I Award client: Shchusev Museum of Architecture program: > 100 ha, masterplan, public space strategy date: 2013 The main objective of the project is to create a reliable “cultural machine” gradually implemented in the city. Steps such as the introduction of digital interface, organization of the city festival and competition for the temporary pavilion refresh perception of urban environment, activate inaccessible public spaces. These steps are universal and necessary in almost all Russian historical cities. Public space between numerous museums is divided in open gallerey rooms with different configuration. Such step combine cultural enterprises in solid urban interior, the scope of which corresponds with Moscow megacity ambitions. Depositary for urban landscape appears near Museum of Architecture in the area’s rich cultural heritage from different periods of Moscow.

BIG MOSCOW Moscow and Moscow Region

There is something paradoxical about the idea of “expanding” Moscow. The city is, in many ways, already far more substantial than what registers on any census or map – the population within the MKAD is likely 40% greater than estimates, the traffic problems are substantially worse than what is recorded, and construction activity outside the city’s borders has long overtaken that within the city itself. This project, therefore, is not the planning of an urban expansion, but more a retroactive correction of an expansion that has already taken place: a recognition that the challenges facing “Greater Moscow” involve a much larger area than the newly included Southwest territories. To relieve the pressure on the existing city, the development of the Agglomeration will be reoriented towards 4 new “magnets” or logistic hubs. Strategically placed at the airports, these hubs are linked to the City and the Oblast through high-speed rail, and also integrate all forms of infrastructure: transport, broadband, industry, and energy provisions. Physically linking the periphery to the current “city” will allow for the economic activation of the periphery. With respect to the proposed government relocation, it is not realistic that the main government officials will relocate from the center of the city. Certain Ministries and Agencies could, however, relocate to the periphery as a catalyst for business and economic activity. The development of the new sites will thus be a kind of tandem between relocated government institutions and various private economic activities. The proximity to the airport will allow for the introduction of various ‘Free Zones’, introducing significant economic incentives for private companies to participate. This will attract business, employment and investment from Russia, Europe, and the world, and will establish Moscow as a truly global city.

project: Reconstruction of the former parish premises, dental policlinic in soviet time, in art hostel status: On hold client: Individual program: > 1000m ², 43 rooms, public transformable space, bar, cafe, beach, ice ring, camping team: Buromoscow, Olga Aleksakova, Julia Burdova, Anastasia Gritskova date: 2012 The project is an example of how non-standard cultural program could work in the framework of ordinary hostel. For each group of rooms has been offered a special scheme for exhibiting contemporary art. Rich public program was gathered for hostel’s outdoor. Various modular furniture options were proposed for every room. The project is promoting a new formula for the space of contemporary art. Visitors do not appear within a short period of time in the gallery, instead visitors live in it. Each type of hostel rooms equipped with a separate format of art objects, like on the wall, floor or bed.
