In a word, the Fall edition of Columns, the AIA Dallas magazine, explores our city’s “Landscape.” The more we create well-design places and spaces, the more we learn of Dallas’ natural design—an ecological infrastructure of waterways, parks, and even large reserves lying ubiquitously nearby in hopes of our balanced and cooperative intentions. Topics in this issue include:
• Our Urban Forest
• Water as a Unifer
• Borrowing Nature’s Space
Wayfinders you will meet: Celebrated U.S. landscape architect Laurie Olin, Hon. AIA; globe-trekker Lucilo Peña; and landscape-urbanist Jessie Zarazaga, RIBA.
Places you will go: The Great Trinity Forest, Old City Park, the Congo Street Initiative, One Arts Plaza, Kiest Park, and the early days of Dallas when urban planning began here.
Extras for the journey: Special landscape architecture services section; and a new section called “Scene,” capturing the smiles when the architectural community comes together for fun and good causes.
