Statement of Purpose
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE My name is Aida Maria Lora Lopez and I was born in Manhattan, New York in 1989. I have lived with my Dominican parents in the Dominican Republic my entire life, but now I am back to my country. I am an architect graduated from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), Santiago, Dominican Republic. I am interested in the Master Degree in Interior Design at Florida International University.
continue being part of this diversity. I want to receive all the knowledge that the experienced profesionals from this faculty offers to the students. I believe in this university and it would be an honor for me to be part of the graduate alumni.
I can describe myself as a very stubborn person who have her goals very well stablished in her heart and mind. I always do my utmost in everything i work with. I believe in discipline, hard work, family, God and of course love. I am conviced that i could make my dreams come true. I want to be someone that the society would be proud of.
Design is not about innovation. Design is about communication. Innovation in design is usually a wonderful byproduct or direct result of a particular need. Design that seeks to foremost be innovative will commonly fall apart under its own stylistic girth. — JASON SANTA MARIA
Since I was studying architecture back in my country, I have always been searching opportunities to study abroad. In addiction, I have been in many countries for international architectural congress. First, I went to Habana Cuba in 2009 for a Caribbean encounter. Later in 2010, I went to the Latin American encounter of architecture students in Acapulco, Mexico. I had experienced socio-cultural worshops with architecture students from all around the world. When I found out about the FIU, I felt a “diversity feeling” in its study programs, and when I came for the first time to the campus, I personally proved that my assumptions were correct.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. — RALPH WALDO EMERSON
I have already 4 months living in Miami, and 10 weeks studying English in the English Language Institute at the FIU. The tropical environment inside the campus has made me felt like home. This has been one of the best experiences in my entire life. Not only because of the academic goals I have reached, also because of the friends and people I have known. I want to
AIDA LORA _ ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO
The Master in Interior design offered in the school of architecture at the FIU caught my interest because it is totally oriented towards design’s role in society, and prepare students to be contributors to the community in a higher level. The fact that this program is a CIDA accredited professional interior architecture education, makes this master a good choice for what I am looking for. The Certificate in Cruise Ship and Super Yacht Interior Design program that i can do in conjuction with the master grab my attention to this gradutae program. The spectacular campus, the well-established school of architecture, their excellent professors, laboratories, and people from all around the world; creates the perfect blend that promotes my studies.
If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing. — MARC CHAGALL

The early days of this journey Before becoming an architect, i had to explore the form, its characteristics and modifications. When studying the geometric shapes in 2d and 3d, i could undertand how to transform it and mix it to create new forms. Working with pure forms helped me to recognize the organic and geometrical forms in my enviroment.

They made me face a problem inside my university. This problem was the lack of a BUS station for the students coming from others cities to the campus. I proposed a Bus Station strategically located on campus. Offering the students security, reliability, comfort and connection to the univerity buildings.

I inspired the proyect in my favorite painter of all times, Pablo Picasso. I abstracted his different stages as an artist and put them together in an architectural, cubistic and logical conclusion.

SUSTAINABILIT Y N O I T FUNC
In this architectural design i learned how t o design and work with high buildings. The program in this proyect included offices, commercial spaces and recreation for the community. The technical details like the elevators, electicity sources and water recycling were part of the experimentation during this course. Choosing the correct structural materials to design was a complete challenge.

After visiting the poor community and talked to the people who live there, i started proposing some recovering action ideas. -The river cleanup, the reutilization of some common materials located in the zone. -The creation of a interactive park across the river bank. -An education campaign to the citizen living near the river. -Design different types of homes for the relocated families and a Citizen community center to concentrate some gubernamental services.

In this Architectural design VIII, i got into the urban design. First, taking a river-close poor zone of Santiago City in D.R. create and design an entire community for its residents. The improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants was a must in the development of this project. The Recovery, the reutilization of spaces, and the enviromental awareness would make an impact on the citizens.

In order to obtain my bachelor degree diploma i presented a thesis proposal. My toppic was the recycling of the shipping containers. I proposed the recycle of steel warehouses and shipping containers. Theres a lot of educational center lackness in my city and region, so i decided to design a technological institute that would offer special education to those students who demonstrate capacity and encouragement about the new technologies. Locating my proyect inside an industrial park to show the locals how the city can be part of the new technological trend not only in the Dominican Republic, also in the World.

After studying the possibles locations i decided to locate the institute inside and industrial park that manufacture different kinds of products. thou-Inside the park there were thou sands of abandoned shipping containers that i took advantage of. I utilized the container as a basic architectonic module to create spaces.

The container as a module was utilized for every single space. Student apartments, classrooms, computer laboratories and technological laboratories. The tropical weather of the Dominican Republic made me look for a way to protect the containers from the sun and the rain seasons. The steel warehouses were used as shelters for the shipping containers areas. In the student housing i used a steel skin with the vegetation to protect the containers to make the enviroment more interactive for the students.
MYPORTFOLIO_ARCHITECT AIDA LORA
After spending almost a year working in this proyect i could developted an entire technological complex. Administrative offices, laboratories, student housing, recreational areas and more, were part of the architectural program. The weather conditions, the transportations, the gubernamental laws were considered during the whole process. Mainly i used recycled steel and new steel structural elements to suppor all the buildings. The relationship between the greens and the high tech architecture is a strong characteristic of this proyect.
