Integrating Gender throughout the HIV Continuum of Care Addressing gender norms and inequities is essential to reducing HIV risk, mitigating its impact, and increasing access to services for men and women. On behalf of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the United Sates Agency for International Development (USAID), AIDSTAR-One promotes the integration of gender throughout prevention, care, and treatment programs. CROSS-CUTTING ISSUES Africa Gender Compendium and Case Study Series: Summaries and case studies of HIV programs in Africa using gender strategies to improve services and reduce vulnerability. GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) Program Guide for Integrating Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response in PEPFAR Programs: Tools and guiding principles for GBV integration in prevention, PMTCT, testing and counseling, treatment, care and support, and OVC interventions. Available in French, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili. Case studies from Vietnam, Ecuador, and Swaziland feature innovative strategies for integrating GBV within HIV, family planning, or reproductive health services. Gender-based Violence and HIV Technical Brief This technical brief assists HIV program planners in designing and implementing activities that integrate GBV and HIV services.

Spotlight on Gender: Evidence-Based Approaches to Protecting Adolescent Girls at Risk of HIV This editorial highlights challenges and recommendations for protecting adolescent girls—an often underserved population at disproportionate risk for HIV infection. Facilitating South-to-South Technical Support Toolkit: Framework and tools to guide south-based technical support to build capacity around gender integration in HIV programs. Microfinance, HIV, and Women’s Empowerment Technical Brief: This technical brief offers HIV field staff and program managers essential information on approaches to economic development, which can ultimately enhance their ability to mitigate the impact of and reduce their vulnerability to HIV.
