Global Community Dev. Program (GCDP) A BIG word for a BIG cause! The GCDP is a 6 – 12 week community development internship in one of the following fields of:
Cultural Education HIV / AIDS Awareness Education (general) Community Development Environmental Awareness Social Entrepreneurship Tourism Promotion
Internships are focused on creating impact in the host environment; working with NGOs, schools or charities on the frontline.

Countries & Projects Available PHILIPPINES: Project Hiyas Work with students for Ecological & Economic Democracy (SEED) to reform Philippine Mining Activities and advance climate justice. Project Scope: - involvement in organizing 3-week environmental exhibits on anti-mining - collaboration with SEED in acquiring volunteers & speakers for exhibitions - assist in logistics preparation (e.g: venue set-up, coordination with forum speakers, preparation of exhibition materials) - creation & documentation of exhibition reports - networking with universities & relevant student organizations Requirements: Applicants with experience in project management are encouraged Duration: Oct to Dec 2011 (6 weeks)

1. Green Power Now Educate students about key topics of sustainable development & environmental protection Project Scope: - provide lessons on sustainable development (training provided) - organize and participate in issue-related events (e.g: Green Race) - empower students on sustaining nature in modern life, setting up environmental clubs & cooperate with other NGOs 2. Red Wings Community care program focusing on educating the old on English & foreign cultures, through various activities Project Scope: - deliver English lessons & lecture about Singapore cultures & lifestyles - design sports & games for senior citizens & the chance to learn Kung Fu from them - visit local families & celebrate traditional festivals with them 3. Explore China Raise youths’ awareness on cultural heritage protection & promotion Project Scope: - work in museums - assist in exhibition planning, document translation & guiding / designing educational programs 4. Shanghai Memory (Photoshop skills & own laptop required) Engage in the long history of Shanghai & awaken memory of old Shanghai Project Scope: - research & find various sites in Shanghai, via picture taking & videos of its ancient culture - use acquired materials to promote & raise cultural awareness of youth Requirements for all China projects: - Good command of Mandarin Chinese Duration: mid Nov – end Dec (6 weeks) Food: ~ SGD 4 /meal

Countries & Projects Available TAIWAN 1. Bridging the gap, connecting the world Locations: (1) Hsinchu (2) Taipei Work at elementary school, teaching students ranging from 3 different levels. Project Scope: - design and teaching of English lessons, to inspire students’ interest - introduce Singapore’s culture - create student clubs/activities based on personal skills - engage in holiday activities with teachers, students and students’ parents - write weekly report about program and share with teachers and parents 2. Image through different eyes *latest* Create awareness about a city called Hsinchu. Project scope: - take pictures & give comments
- hold culture sharing classes for old people & children - draw pictures of different cultures & countries on an old building
Countries & Projects Available 3. Eco-tourism *latest* Promote the eco-tour to the social community. Project Scope: - work in the Green Farm (high-tech organic farm) 4. Connect with the world *latest* Work at high schools. Project Scope: - deliver topics that can broaden the students views on the outside world - inspire the students to have innovative & flexible thoughts - share awareness on social issues like environment oriented & caring for the-disadvantaged while working in & receiving professional sessions from NGOs.
