Peru is a democratic republic representative. The Peruvian government is structured according to the principle of separation of three autonomous and independent branches: the Executive, the Legislature or Congress; and the Judiciary. The President of the Republic and 130 members of Congress are elected every 5 years by universal, direct and secret vote.

BORDERS Peru is bordered by Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile. Its territory extends 1'285,215 km2 of land and 200 nautical miles from the Pacific Ocean.

AIESEC LIMA The capital of Peru Lima is the capital of Peru and is located on the shore of Pacific Ocean. It is one of the most visited destinations in the country and known for its incredible beaches, a cuisine considered one of the most interesting in Latin America, archaeological sites, museums and shrines, nightlife, huge shopping centers and traditional markets and craft fairs.

Its annual average temperature is 18.2 º C (64.76 ºF ). In summer reaches to 28 ºC (82.4 ºF ) and in winter drops to 13 ºC ( 55.4 ºF). The wettest season is from June to September.

AIESEC LIMA "Peru" comes from the Quechua word meaning "abundance" in reference to the welfare and wealth of the Inca empire. Cusco ancient capital of the Incas, meant "navel of the world".

Two thirds of the Peruvian territory are covered with Amazon rainforest.

Peru has more than 491 national dishes.

Lima dialect is known as the Peruvian Coast Spanish (without strong intonations).

There are about 90 different microclimates in Peru, which is one of the most bio-diverse countries on the planet.

The potato is of Peruvian origin and the country more than 3,000 different species are cultivated. Peru is the country with more variety of butterflies (3532 species) and mammals (182).

Peru is the largest producer of metals and valuable minerals such as silver, copper and zinc. The National University of San Marcos is the oldest in the Americas, founded in 1551.
