What You Can Expect From Us! AIESEC Mainland of China works hard to provide the full AIESEC experience and part of that is to assist interns in terms of logistics both before and during their time abroad. We will: • •
• • • • •
Arrange for the host LC to pick you up from Airport, bus/train station. Provide guidance and support on how to use facilities such as public transport and routine facilities such as the pharmacy, laundry services, grocery shopping, medical services, and the emergency services. Provide knowledge and guidance on registering with local authorities. Provide assistance in the case of dealing with landlords, electricity, water, gas or other such amenities. Provide assistance with monetary queries such as opening a bank account (If Necessary) or exchanging money to local currency. Aid obtaining internet access or similar communication systems. Voice any safety precautions that one may have to take in the local area which is common knowledge.
Expectations for Experience Completing an internship with AIESEC is a unique experience and an opportunity for you as an intern to develop both personally and professionally. Our projects aim to allow interns to: • • • • • • • •
Have a positive learning experience. Gain practical skills and knowledge of a foreign environment to complement academic background, career aspirations or life experience. Develop an understanding of Chinese culture and discover the real China. Share and apply knowledge and skills already acquired to not only the working environment but also to local communities. Develop a deeper insight into theoretical and practical leadership skills. Increase awareness of social issues and practices in both the sending country and the host. Gain intercultural competencies and a global mind-‐set by having a unique opportunity to work in a different environment from home country. Meet different people from all over the world and make new friends!
Expectations for Working With this opportunity it is expected that during your internship you: • • • • • • • • • •
Have a proactive and positive attitude towards your job description. Show energy and enthusiasm to deliver the service appropriately. Be a team player whilst still being individually accountable. If you have anything to prepare beforehand please do so, as not only does it help save time it also looks impressive when you go that extra mile! During your time in China we encourage you visit and travel as many places as possible but remember that the main reason that you are here is for the internship. It is also encouraged that you engage with as much as possible with the company you are interning for. Take the lead and act with integrity and use your intuition. Be as creative and innovative as possible. Don’t expect to be ‘babysat’ if you need support or have questions talk to the right people in your company. Make sure you update your manager or the person/people in charge of you.
Remember: As a reminder our internship programme is a chance for you to experience something unique and therefore it does not aim to: • • •
Be a holiday. Solely provide financial gain. Act as a permanent career placement, if the company decides to extend the internship on a permanent basis, AIESEC will have no role in facilitating this.
We wish you the very best of luck during your time here in China!
